Welcome to the iRacing GTPlanet Mustang FR500S World Challenge!

(Logo in progress)

This Championship will take place over 8 rounds on various circuits across the world using the Mustang FR500S 👍

To help keep cost down for those competing I have decided that we will kick off the Championship at the world famous Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca (which is available to all Iracing users free of charge) for Round 1, while we will return to Laguna to wrap the Championship up for Round 8.

To help keep things competitive to those who have a hard time sparing time to compete, I have decided to allow for 3 throw away rounds. I realize it's not likely possible to commit yourself to the entirety of the Championship, so hopefully this will allow for a bit of freedom while keeping the points standings competitive come round 8 👍 Of course those who show up for all the rounds will be rewarded for their commitment by being able to throw away their 3 worst performances as well.

If you are interested in signing up please post a response in this thread with your Iracing name and what days of the week and times (GMT) work best for you. This will be a big help in being able to set up race dates that will work for the majority of those competing. 👍

This looks like fun Brock 👍
I've only been seriously getting into iRacing in the last week or so,
and it's been a lot of fun. If anybody wants to add me as a friend
on iRacing, my name is Carl Posey.
I could race pretty much any weeknight after 6 P.M. (GMT-5)
or after 2 P.M. on weekends.

Cool timeattack, that looks like fun! I may be interested if you get a big turnout and the time suits me. I'm in California. iRacing is great for anybody registered with GTP. Clean, fast racing and nicely structured, meaningful races. Keep us posted on how this develops.

Quick search on youtube came up with a fun-race video from Laguna Seca. Nothing like having 46 real people (NOT AI) racing on the track at the same time.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8GtPoZXcdjo

Im up for it. Still gotta buy the C6R and Riley Prototype though. Haven't raced in about a month.

We should at least get 8 people to join in, and maybe the group as a whole should vote for
what combo should come next, kind of like WRS.

Nice idea Timeattack!

I'm in everytime when session fits to my schedule. 👍

ps. Anybody here master Photoshop or Paint.net? Would be great to have GTP-skin in some cars. Not just because of this Championship, but in Official-series too. :)

Great idea, my iRacing name is Petar Stoyanov I have all the road cars and tracks and will participate in any given time.

Something else I just thought of too, iRacing has a promotion going on right now where you can subscribe for 3 months and it only costs $14. Right now, you get 3 cars and 7 tracks included for free with the subscription, but starting sometime in July, they are adding 2 more free cars and 2 more free tracks.
So if you have been on the fence about trying it out, now would be a great time to do so.

Sorry for the late reply guys :ouch:

Thanks for pointing that out Carl 👍 For those of you who haven't gotten the opportunity to try iRacing, but own a PC and are interested in experiencing the most complete and life like virtual racing experience, IMO nothing comes close to the depth of overall realism and immersion that one experiences in iRacing.

I'd also like to thank those who have shown their interest thus far  I'm hoping we can get at least 8-10 entries in at the very least, otherwise I may have second thoughts about putting on such a series. At this point it looks as though we have 7 people who can make a pretty good attempt to compete in the Championship 👍

Here is a list of those interested so far:

1. cpp214
2. cmpinberkeley
3. Masi_23
4. AutoAki
5. tingri
6. Jordan

Just to get an idea of what date/time would work best for all those involved, how would a Sunday work @ say 8 P.M. G.M.T? I realize the time difference between some of us makes things a big inconvenience in terms of scheduling, but I'm hoping we can work together to meet somewhere in the middle...so I'm up for suggestions :) I myself am pretty flexible with my schedule fortunately 👍

Anyways, I look forward to hearing back from you all and any new people interested in joining

I'll be heading to Pismo Beach this weekend but will be home by Sunday night. 1900hours onwards (PST) would be best for me. Are you planning to hold a practice session?

I'd love to get involved with this myself, though as of right now I may not be able to race this coming Sunday.

8 pm gmt would be very great for me... but unfortunately not this coming sunday. :( Here in Finland we are whole nation celebrating summer and night without darkness at next weekend.

ps. I do have one 'free-month' promocode if anyone knows some person who have decent PC and wanted to give iRacing a shot.

Cheers, Kristian Lindroth.

Thanks for the responses guys

It sounds like most of you will be busy this Sunday so I'll hold off on the first round until a later date. Unfortunately for the American competitors the following Sunday happens (why are all the damn holiday's on Sundays!?) to be the 4th of July (Independence Day), so I'd imagine most of the competitors from the USA won't be able to commit themselves to that date either :indiff:...unless we could hold the event before everyone goes out to party/do their thing. So just to look ahead, what kind of time frame (i.e. Thursday from 6-10 P.M. GMT) work for all of you either during the week or on say a Saturday?

I was also thinking about having 2 car teams for this Championship as well...and/or possibly a North American/USA vs European points category as well to spice things up. What are your guys thoughts on this and how we might to determine the driver pairings for 2 car teams?

Jordan: I'll put your name down on the entry list 👍 It's a pleasure to have you competing  And btw, is there anyway to add a poll to an existing thread?

Edit: Regarding a pre-season testing session - I may possibly hold something over this weekend if anyone is interested in dropping by to get some seat time and to dial in their set-ups. I'll come up with a date/time later on tonight. For now I've got to run

I'm following with bated interest. Here's hoping it takes off unlike the other races we have talked about in the other thread.

6--10 GMT would work for me on weekends, but probably not during the week.
But if everybody picks a time, I'll try to work around it 👍

Well if you are interested in joining Frizbe that would make 8 people "in" atm , which IMO would be just enough to get the ball rolling on a legitimate Championship 👍 But of course the more the merrier.

I'm 100% committed to doing my share of the work in order to get the wheels turning on this series :) Now it's just up to everyone else to work together to help coordinate race dates and other odds and ends in the following days and weeks.

I'm going to throw a tentative 1st Round date out there of July 3rd (or possibly 4th) @ 6 P.M. GMT and you guys let me know if that works for you.

On another note, what are everyone's thoughts on my vehicle selections (C6R, Ford Falcon, Riley Prototype) for the Championship? I just purchased the new Ford Mustang FR505 tonight and I found it to be a real blast to drive! I was thinking about possibly replacing the Riley Prototype with this car if there was enough interest. Because of the fact that this car is relatively low powered and so easy to drive I think it would make for some really close and intense racing among us 👍

I'm good for the 3rd. Gives me some time to practice. Anyone got a set they are willing to share?

Oh yeah I'll PM you my name at some point not willing to post it here yet. Tuesdays work best for me although I can make almost any race should it be about 10:30PM local so something like 5:30AM GMT Wednesday morning.
Also the Corvette sucks.. or I do whatever, I can't drive the thing I suggest the Star Mazda. Or the Radical. Or the Jetta. Or the Skip Barber. Or the Riley.

I wish I had the money for this sim :( Although I have not tried it, its easy to see just from videos that this sim is very realistic 👍 And looking at online racing it look very intense with the more real drafting compared to gt5p.

Have fun guys :) 👍

Thanks for the info Frizbe 👍

I will post my set-up tommorow evening. There's likely more speed to be found by tinkering some more, but I will leave that for a open practice session this Saturday @ 7 P.M. GMT if anyone wants to drop in and get some laps in, share tunes and chat a bit

Thanks mate  It's just too bad you can't join us :( We will meet again in GT5 though :sly:

I may be able to join you for Saturday practice as well. 👍

Haven't yet tested Mustang, but I see that everybody seem to love it... so I would be very happy to see it in our Championship also! I bet it would give best racing because of it's nature and less power. 👍

On a sidenote, my next full Season will be Mustang, so it would be way more easily to jump to these races then, and so would be finding setups too.

Volcano: Do you have anykind of proper PC nowatime? I have one quite good Graphic-card without use. (8800 GT) I could send it to you if you have real interest... I also have one-month free code for share.

At the moment I dont have a pc...but thanks for trying to help ! :) 👍
I will buy a pc when I get enough extra cash, but thats not soon im afraid..
Are you going to film the GTP iracing event? Would be interesting to watch 👍

I just bought the Mustang and I must say, it's an enjoyable car to drive - it definitely fills a gap in cars that iRacing was missing.

I sure wanted to do some race-recaps. I will try to find time for simple editing. New boy in da house, 3months now, so my quality-time is very limited.

You can count me in. :)

Cannot race at these times due to other scheduled league races:
Mon:1:00am GMT - 4:00am GMT
Wed: 1:30am GMT - 4:00am GMT
Sun:10:30pm GMT -1:00am GMT

Just need to know what/where are YOU wanting to run so I can purchase the cars/tracks asap. One-make or like WRS, just gotta know.

Also, any endurance races? :D

That would be absolutely awesome if you could do some type of race re-cap for the series, even if it was a very simple edit. I will also try to find time to do same 👍 But first I will have to figure out how the iRacing replay system works so I can do some editing :dunce:
