Sorry about that Frizbe :indiff: Unfortunately I was unable to find a way to modify the car selection after I had created the session :(

It was a bit hectic out there anyway as the Mustang FR500S was on the track at the same time as the C6R, which made trying to get a proper lap in on a low fuel run a bit of a guessing game :scared:

I was playing for a short while earlier today, but didn't see your post in time, timeattack07gt! :ouch:

Hey guys,
Just ordered this laptop pavilion dm3z with;
AMD II neo dual core k325 1.3 ghz with 512 mb ATI radeon mobility hd 5430 and 4 gb memory.
Is this good enough for iracing. If so I might join.

Hey guys, I'm extremely sorry for not keeping you updated on the Championship :ouch: Procrastination got the better of me :dunce:

I was planning to go on vacation next weekend so I was unsure as to when would be a good date for Round 1, but things have come up and I've decided to cancel my vacation. So at this point I'm looking to kick off Round 1 next weekend on Sunday July 11th @ 8 P.M. GMT 👍

If anyone has issues with that date/time please let me know. I also promise to post more info on the entire Championship this afternoon. Thanks for your patience

Edit: Just updated my first post with the Schedule for all 8 rounds.. Let me know what you guys think/or if yoo have any suggesstions 👍:

Hey again

I've decided to completely change the format of the series

Instead of using 3 cars throughout the Championship I've decided that we will stick with only 1 car (the Mustang FR500S) for all 8 rounds. After getting more seat time today and competing in a race with the FR500S, I found this car to be quite incredible TBH, and probably one of the best replicated virtual sim racing cars around

The friendly nature of the car will also provide much closer and intense racing, where as with the C6R and Falcon, they are both cars that are just waiting to bite you in the butt at the slightest lapse of concentration. I also thought that sticking with one car will help to improve our overall skills and consistency in the game, instead of jumping from car to car each round and having to make night and day adjustments to our driving style.

This will also help to keep cost down to those who are new to iRacing and who are looking to take part. Anyways, if you guys have any issues with my decision please let me know 👍

I think that's a great decision. 👍 I've been in one race with the FR500S and it was one of the most enjoyable I've had in iRacing. I'm looking forward to next Sunday!

Good decision TA! 👍

Havent yet tested Mustang more than few laps, but I'm sure everything you described is true. It's not always about cubic inches. :)

I’m really interested in the whole iRACING concept and I don’t mind spending the 14 bucks for the one month membership to see if my new Gateway ID58 laptop can run their software. My main concern is the cost of addtitional tracks for the contest as well as the one car that is needed. It would be cool if someone could maybe figure out the cost of what it takes to compete in the competition for those of us don‘t have anything but the computer, the wheel and foot peddle kit, and the desire.

Most likely won't make it... won't be home til 4 hours after the scheduled time. We'll see.

Was trying to post earlier but some database error kept popping up, oh well. :indiff:

Anyway I won;t be able to compete as that time is 1 PM local to me and is either an hour before I get off work or an hour before I go in. :ouch:

Just make sure you record them for me, I'll also stick around here looking for practice servers to go up. 👍

PS someone give Jordan a love tap for me in the first race for creating the best forum on the web. :sly:

Good choice on sticking with one car too, switching between cars almost always causes more trouble than its worth.

I think it's great we're using the mustang since it makes the focus of this championship very clear.

As for the cost; if all 3 included road courses are used with one repeating, the total price of car/tracks would be around $67,
with the 10% discount (purchase 3 cars and tracks together). If all 3 included road courses are used, the total price of car/tracks
would be around $71, with the 20% discount (purchase 6 cars and tracks together)

Here's how it could look like with the first option:
1.Laguna Seca (Free)
2.Road Atlanta
3.Summit Point Raceway (Free)
4.Brands Hatch
5.Road America
6.Lime Rock Park (Free)
7.Zandvoort
8.Laguna Seca (Free)

However, I believe if we race the mustang, we should race MidOhio and Wakins Glen. Midohio at the least, since it is perfect for the mustang racing.

Thanks for the positive feedback guys 👍

It's unfortunate that there are already two of you who won't be able to make Round 1. Just out of curiousity, how would Saturday (July 10th @ 8 PM GMT) work for everyoone?

I will make some revisements to the schedule tommorow that I think you will be happy with 👍 Also, I will most likely throw in Summit Point Raceway or Lime Rock Park (Both free tracks) instead of recycling Laguna for Round 8

I dont know what CPU and GPU is in that laptop you have... specially CPU, cause iRacing is really processor dependant. (physics calculations need much power) I have AMD dual-core 7750be overclocked to 2,9mhz and it runs well with graphics lowered to quite low. (I need fps over 100 all the time or my consistency suffers)

Someone sended nice list about iRacing special-offers to new members to another iR-thread... search from there best offer for your liking! I think there was offers like 'buy one month, get three', and I would take that if I would be starting now.

Thanks for the research for my interest in your event but I don’t know about the 70+ dollar investment for the series. I think I will have to bow out at this time until I set up my lap top as an experiment to test its viability as a gaming PC.

Grrrr! :banghead:

Sometimes I really hate that I'm not average 9-5 Joe employee. What I'm saying is, that I just noticed I have full-day workshift at saturday... no chance to take a part to GTP's championship race #1.

:grumpy:

Hope you have fun though! 👍

NOTICE:

Hey guys, I think I'm going to stick with the current date of July 11th (this Sunday) @ 8 PM GMT for Round 1 👍 Sorry to those of you who won't be able to make it :(

Leaphart3: I'll try and get Round 2 scheduled a little earlier in the day 👍

It would be nice to open a poll prior to each round which would allow people to vote on a date/time range that would work for them (Maybe Jordan can chime in on the possibility of adding a poll to this thread).

Click "Add a Poll to This Thread" in the Thread Tools option near the top of the page. :)

Thanks for the tip  I will add a poll when I get back from running a few errands 👍

I will be online in any given time, but how do we get the password for the race.

I will send a PM w/password to the those who have entered the Championship in just a few 👍

Hey guys, I just added a poll to thread which will hopefully help us come up with a date/time for Round 2 👍 I apologize for the limited choices but that was the best I could do in order to work around my work schedule unfortunately :nervous:

I will be sending a PM containing Round 1 race entry passwords to entrants in just a moment, as well as specific practice, qualifying, and race times for this weekends race. I will also post these times in my OP as well.

Leaphart3: I tried sending you the password for this weekends race through PM (in case you can make it) but I had gotten an alert saying your account is unable to reciieve PM's. Let me know if you are trying to join in on this weekends race 👍

Thanks for all the organization, timeattack07gt, I'm really looking forward to this. 👍

I'm so sad that I can't take a part to first race, but that's just life... anyway, one question came in to my mind about scheduling. Atfirst I say that it's just perfect for me how it's now, but I noticed that 'practice' is only 60 minutes... is there some reason why not to set it be so long than there is time left over Qualify+Race?

We have quite big Finnish-community driving iRacing and we always set up practice to being so long than possible. With that way many guys can jump into practice to do some laps few hours before qualify, and then feed childrens and put them to bed etc etc...

Another idea to think about is Qualifying-style. In our Summer-Cup we use '2 laps private' -way of qualifying. It's been great experience! People need to do their only two laps with care, and we've have seen very thrilling grids when some Aliens have been overdrived their only tries. :D It also brings some realism/thrill to qualify, cause you cant go over your real race-pace and just reset car.

Hope to see you at 18th... I alredy checked that I have free whole weekend there! :dunce:

Sorry to hear you can't make it :guilty:

Good question about scheduling and the practice session length in particular. I was trying to minimize the total length of the race day by having a 60 minute practice session, but on the other hand there is no real downside (as you mentioned) to extending the practice session by starting it a bit earlier and leaving the qualifying and race times the same. So with that said, for round 1 (and all following rounds) I will extend the practice session length from 60 minutes to 180 minutes. So for this weekends race the practice session will now begin @ 6 PM GMT, while qualy and the race will begin at the previously scheduled time 👍

Regarding qualifying procedure - I'm unfamiliar with the "private qualifying", but it does sound interesting. ATM I think I will leave the current qualifying procedure for Round 1, but I am definitely open to the possibility of doing this "private qualifying" in future rounds. In my view both ways of qualifying are appealing in their own ways. The traditional method (most realistic) of having all cars on track at the same time with a limited amount of time is exciting because not only do you get to watch what everyone else is doing during the session, but it also becomes a dramatic and tactical shootout in the closing minutes of the session when everyone is pushing hard to put in that last second charge to claim pole (or whatever position they are trying to achieve). Of course when you have other cars on track at the same time you must be tactical in getting your tires up to temperature and allowing a big enough gap to the car/s in front (which shouldn't be too bad with 11 cars at the most) so that you can get 1 or 2 clean laps in on low fuel/fresh tires, which is also a challenge in itself.

Now with the two lap "private qualifying" session, I also see how this can be intriguing and enjoyable as well. Not only do you have the element of the unknown/unpredictability as far as what your competitors are doing, but you must also be careful not to overdrive the car in the only two laps your are alloted.

I'll keep everyone updated on the qualifying format for future rounds 👍

I also like more this normal Qualifying what you are setting to GTP Championship... if iRacing just could implement 'No resets' for qualifys, it would be even better. (that rule ofcourse can be set by you) Nowadays many guys total half-dozen cars in there, to get that one 'Lucky lap' and that littlebit ruins immersion. I dont think we will have that problem... hopefully.

I also would love if you could set rule that people would not stop on track to exit faster to pit-stall. Only if car is totalled and/or dangerous for others it's ofcourse ok, but just to get faster again back to track is littlebit lame and can cause situations cause you need to stop before exit works. Atleast mandatory to stop far enough from track-surface would be good.

I'm sooo jealous for you guys!:grumpy:

I agree with you for the most part. And it is rather surprising that the developers of the game haven't included an option for no resets in qualy :odd:

Like you, I would personally rather have my experience be as life like as possible (without having to spend a realistic amount of money ), so being able to reset my car back to pitlane after a massive accident is a bit devaluing to the realism of the experience and the caution that must be used at the limit when tracking a car in real life. On the other hand, being able to reset your car to pit lane after an accident is a nice feature and appeals to me in some ways because at the end of the day we still play such a game to have a good time...and sometimes accidents do happen which are completely out of ones control (i.e. getting shunted by another driver from behind) which leads to one being hung out to dry, which isn't what one can call a good time . So in a sense there are two edges to the sword IMO 👍

I agree here as well, although my prior response probably holds some merit here as well. I should also note (as you did) that if a driver wants to reset their car, at the very least pull far off the racing line or track surface to do so 👍
