Patch needed for jaggy shadows. Post here if you agree.

First of all, GT5 looks STUNNING. Everything about this game is 10/10...except for the terrible, jaggy shadows plaguing the game.

My question is: can I patch actually fix them or is it now a permanent part of the game?

After watching trailers, gazing at countless videos before the games release (which showed no jaggy shadows, mind you) I am disappointed that this one thing can cause the amazing premium cars and tracks to be bogged down.

It's like looking a gorgeous woman who has a massive wart on the end of here nose...distracting, huh?

GT5P also had them, havent played GT5 but im sure it the same.

Again, this is simply not true. If you look at the Eiger Nordwand replay from GT5P and compare it to GT5, it looks different. I know this for a fact and played GT5P for hours and hours on end, watching countless replays.

So far that's really the only gripe i have about this game so far. Watching the replays is at times a bit of a let down when it comes to shadows.

If it can be eased then i hope it is but it is not a major annoyance if it is not.

the graphics shine in certain areas. environments, people, and standard cars are reduced. there isnt much balance

Funny thing is I don't mind some of these areas because I do prefer the 60 FPS but the shadows being as bad as they are is inexcusable...especially after FIVE years of development.

well of course when you're driving, the last thing you want think about is the graphics but when you actually stop to look at everything, its not very impressive

I haven't used any standard cars. If I can play the whole game through without needing one I will. The cockpit with headtracking is just too cool to forgo.

I just wish people would accept that they are using a PS3 and not a super computer the size of a warehouse.

Maybe we could use a different approach.

I'd suggest something like this:
1- Identify the problem and the reason why it's a problem;
2- Gather opinions and observe the facts to know if it is indeed a problem, the extent of the problem, the circumstances under which it appears, its frequency, etc.
3- Understand why it happens;
4- See if it's possible to do something about it;
5- Ask PD to focus on this area during future development.

It's very easy to vote for a patch, but then, we would vote for premium car patches, day/night in all tracks, weather in all tracks, more control over created courses, better damage, etc. (just gathering some random stuff people are already complaining in the forums)

I guess I'll wait for digital foundry's analysis before anything.

Peace.

A PS3 should be capable of doing a little better than this though. There's also the same sort of problem where spray and cars meet (very jaggy). The other thing i can't help noticing is that some of the trees look well modelled and fit the game nicely, yet some are very poor (occasionally looking even worse than PS2 quality). Just these few things detract from what otherwise is a very good game.

I'm typically not one to nitpick like some GTP'ers but I have to admit the jaggy shadows can be pretty jarring at times. I'm all for a fix if possible, but it won't stop me from playing or anything.

Thanks for all of your opinions everyone.

This does not RUIN the game by any means, but it certainly should be fixed, that is, if it is possible, through a patch.

Anyone know if they are even able to fix such a thing through a patch?

GUY FOR THE FINAL TIME :

SHADOWS WILL NEVER EVER BE CORRECTED. !!!!

Kaz said that they can not make a patch for the games 3D engine,so it will look like that for ever...again NO PATCH TO FIX SHADOWS !!!!! :sick:

Go put a sock in it - From all of us who have yet to receive our copy..

It's shadows FFS.. Jeez..

Agreed however I think that they're a part of the actual game engine which can't be changed via a patch. I could be wrong but I'm sure I read about shadows in games before, only some game engines can render smooth shadows such as the latest version of Unreal Engine. If you look at other games, one from the top of my head is Modern Warfare 2, most of them have jaggy shadows and it's the actual engine that causes it.

On the everything looks stunning quote, well I have to disagree thanks to the "standard" cars, I know they were basically lifted from GT4 on the PS2 but I think they could have made a bit more effort to make them look a bit better, the Hommell Berlinetta is a jaggy car and it shows pretty badly especially around the tail lights and that's just one example. Premium cars are stunning though!

Actually the whatever effect they have going on in front of every light source should be the thing fixed, it gives street and car lights an annoying blink effect.

Prologue had some pretty ugly looking dust clouds in it that were smoothed out over updates. It never looked perfect, but was it ever horrible at release.

Ooh, I get to be the first "no" vote, sweet. I played it all yesterday and today and didn't notice anything, so I'd rather they spent their time on more important things (i.e. everything).

Played any time change events yet? Yup, it can ruin the immersion in them (much more obvious)...

256mb RAM, 256mb VRAM @ 700mhz, an ASTONISHING cell CPU who cannot express itself bounded as it is in a 512k cache and with almost no ram. What did you guys expect? Try and make a pc with those features and see what kind of shadows it'll cast, if it casts any at all.

Honestly I would rather do without the shadows than from what I've seen so far.
Using the Mini '98 (standard) the shadow was made up of HUGE pixels, it was honestly the worst thing I've seen in the game and glad anyone that I was showing GT5 off to wasnt around at that time.
Now I know its a standard car but that doesnt excuse what I saw, like I said I would rather deal with NO shadows.
