Central Coast,
GT4 SURVIVOR SERIES!!!!

Hi all. This will be my first competitive GT4 series, and seeing as I couldn't find an open gt4 series, i thought I'd make one for those who still play gt4 (ie, no PS3!)

so here goes.. (any suggestions are more than welcome!)

General Rules

Aim to kick off in early to mid January (earlier if numbers are good)

General clean racing rules (ie, no shortcuts/wallriding/using rivals as brakes/etc)
Aim to comply with Licence rules (at least 2 tyres on track/rumble strips at all times)

Races will be around 20 to 30 minutes each

Races will be run on a weekly basis (a week being from Monday to Monday)
Results to be submitted by the Monday night (Australian Eastern Standard Time GMT +10) via PM only (keeps suspense up, and cheating down.)
Results should be published before the next race deadline within this thread

Race Rules
NO B-Spec!
Arcade mode
Weight penalties, results-based
No Power changes
Any tyre combination allowed
Strong Tire Wear
Rev Limiter penalty system (same as rallies/missions)
Driving aids Optional
Points for race: 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1 (pre 2010 F1 scoring)

AI can be set to any speed setting. Just thnk about time lost either lapping, racing, or conceding to a slow/medium/fast AI speed

Weighting System

(Based on a field of 10 or more. Will revise if smaller feild)
1st gets 3% weight added.
2nd and 3rd get 2% weight added
4th,5th get 1% weight added
6th,7th no weight gained or lost
8th onwards get 1% reduction.
last gets 2% reduction

Weight will be added/subtracted for the participants next race only. this will not cumulate over the series

Car selection

Each Car will start the series with a certain weight percentage added/reduced to even the class out (Cheers to E RaK for providing the data)

BMW M3 GTR Race Car 2001 (GER) (+1%)
LISTER Storm V12 Race Car 1999(GBR) (-2%)
AUDI A4 Touring Car 2004 (GER) (-1%)
FORD Falcon XR8 Race Car 2000(AUS) (+0%)
OPEL/VAUXHALL Astra Touring Car 2000 (GER/GBR) (+2%)
NISSAN Calsonic Skyline (JTGC) 2000 (JPN) (+4%)
HONDA Mobil 1 NSX (JGTC) 2001 (JPN) (+1%)
TOYOTA Denso Sard Supra (JGTC) 2001 (JPN) (+4%)
HONDA Takata Dome NSX (JGTC) '03 (+0%)

You may use a car another person is using

Mostly, these cars are rarely used in GT Mode . Yes, there are other JTGC cars, but, using an excel spreadsheet found elsewhere on these forums, these cars are quite even. Any suggestions will be considered and reviewed.

I want to praticipate. How exactly is this race going to be held? Will it be online only? If it's in arcade, and only post picture, how this can verify the clean race (i can send the file of the replay, witch can be read only in another GT4). Are we going to run alone and then compare times? or run with 5 AI and then compare times?
I got a GTP_name but since i have no ps3, it's not verified through gtplanet and actually its almost pointless to have one, but i'm ok with it.

This is all PS2 based

Because GT4 has no online capabilities (like me!), it is basically send in your time in the nominated week. I am relying on people being honest, and also, any extrodinary times will attract attention. Basically, clean running can't be policed efficiently (and I can't/won't sit through hours of replays to verify shortcutting), but you will only cheat yourself...

I understand that people fall off the road every now and again. it's going to happen, especially in a multi-lap race

Running the race in arcade mode will provide a more balanced field because you can't tune your car as finely as in GT mode (ie, no extra parts).

Run with AI, as it provides something else to the mix whilst racing, rather then turning a boring amount of laps by yourself

Ok i'm in, I'll save replay + final time so i can provide if requested.
Give me a few days to pick a car (i've never driven most of them)
I don't like Formula so i vote for Touring Cars.
Name: GTP_G3O_Hellas

From the tracks you have chosen Sarthe and Suzuka are very easy to cheat in the last chicanes, so we may consider some more cheatproof tracks like New York, Opera Paris, Twin Ring Montegi, Tsukuba.

P.S. A tip i found while watching replays in gt4, which i haven't seen mentioned anywere. If you press L3 (i think or it's R3) the replay does fast forward. Not other options work like slow or backwards.

I WANT THIS! No PS3 for me so I have been waiting for a nice little series as such to pop up.

A few suggestions:
Drop the FGT and leave it open to touring/SuperGT cars.
Perhaps test some cars and add/subtract starting weights to equalize the field. (PM me if you would like me to try some b-spec testing on this)
Perhaps add an option to extend the series so it touches upon every location? (minus rally, etc.)

I hope this becomes quite popular for us non-ps3 GTer's!

Perhaps add an option to extend the series so it touches upon every location? (minus rally, etc.) Perhaps. Depends on how many numbers we can get.

Thanks for your interest!

I did some further analyzing of Famine's B-spec results. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=80095

Seeing as the M3 GTR seems to be the most average of the original carl ist, I decided to base off that. The Audi TT-R proves to be amost a half of a second faster, huge in long races. The cars in my recommended list are plus or minus about 2 tenths from the GTR, offer some variety in engine design (from v12 to turbo v6), and run at a generally similar p/w ratio.

1'25.796 Mercedes-Benz CLK Touring Car '00
1'25.810 Vauxhall/Opel Astra Super Touring Car '00
1'25.914 Toyota Castrol Tom's Supra (JGTC) '00
1'25.928 BMW M3 GTR Race Car '01
1'26.098 Nissan Pennzoil Nismo GT-R (JGTC) '99
1'26.105 Lister Storm V12 '99

Anyhoo, sign me up for the M3 GTR!

Once I drove the BMW and it was nice, and since both of you took it, I sign up for the

BMW M3 GTR race car '01

Merry christmas and a happy new year

Thanks for the data E RaK. Changed Audi TT touring to A4 touring. going to keep the rest as they are. and the BMW was going to stay anyway, because it seems to be my favourite race version of a car in GT4.

It seems we all like the M3 GTR, but a little variety would be nice

i'm interested.

Please, CRW URABUS. A little more information for entry is required

Let's hope it doesn't turn into the BMW one make series!

Just spent 4 million so I could test out cars. (Better get grindin to get that money back!)

You got off cheap.

I remember when ABud was letting me help him test the cars for his series's he mentioned he had spent a ton of money (10 million or more)I think. Those LMP cars aren't cheap. :scared:

I might be able to sneak in a few races. Having fun with FM3 (traitor). But miss GT4. And still playing this game. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=THp8YJeEAyg

If one car is too fast just play with the HP/Wt a notch or two.

I wish they had put Valencia in GT4! Good track.

I'm playing around with the weight settings and putting all the data in a little spreadsheet to compare everything. About half way done!

WOW! your doing alot of work for this. you seem uber keen! mate!

hey what can I say! I really want to race. Should be done testing by tomorrow evening

Hello,

I really appreciate your effort to run this race series based on GT4 because most racing series are now changed to GT5 such like the Japan GT.

However, I have a little suggestion to the series. As the General Rules says that the race will be last accordingly from around 20-30 minutes. I would like to suggest that can the race be last for just 20 minutes as a person like me don't really have much free time and I think it's also the same case for some people.

I wouldn't mind if my suggestion is rejected though and I will still sign up!

Thanks for the suggestion InvinicbleM5, and I'm thinking around 20 minutes for each race, probably an average of around 22 minutes, with possibly one 30 minute round.

Anyway, welcome to the series

Thanks and no problem ;)

An average of 22 minutes should be fine. Hopefully the series can start in early January.

What do you think about "qualifying" rounds of 5 laps or so on the track that will be run in a main event the next week? Similar to the SuperGT series. https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=129728

Merely a suggestion. I've procrastinated a little on the rest of the testing but it won't take so long. The mounds of snow we're getting around here have inspired some antics on Chamonix :sly:

**EDIT. Results are in. Hooray!

Final Time | Power | Weight Adjustment | Car
1'25.854 | 444 hp | 1131 kg (+1%) | BMW M3 GTR Race Car 2001 (GER)
1'25.881 | 594 hp | 1409 kg (-2%) | LISTER Storm V12 Race Car 1999 (GBR)
1'25.824 | 454 hp | 1069 kg (-1%) | AUDI A4 Touring Car 2004 (GER)

1'25.871 | 454 hp | 1020 kg (+2%) | OPEL/VAUXHALL Astra Touring Car 2000 (GER/GBR)
1'25.859 | 469 hp | 1144 kg (+4%) | NISSAN Calsonic Skyline (JTGC) 2000 (JPN)
1'25.823 | 484 hp | 1161 kg (+1%) | HONDA Mobil 1 NSX (JGTC) 2001 (JPN)
1'25.849 | 464 hp | 1155 kg (+5%) | TOYOTA Castrol Tom's Supra (JGTC) 2001 (JPN)

Managed to get all cars in the 1'25.8XX bracket via adjustments to the weight. I suggest you test out each to find which suits yout driving style best!

granturismite, if you could switch me to #5 in the OPEL/VAUXHALL Astra Touring Car 2000 (GER/GBR), it would be much appreciated! That car just speaks to me. :dopey:

Sure Erak. No problems. Thanks for the data. Will definatly be using it for the start of the series

Not a big fan of this format, and it also complicates things. Because this is my first series, I want to keep it simple

Ahh... a little confidence in one's abilities, eh?

Anyways, thanks for joining the fray oldmodelt

we now have 6 members, hoping for around 10 or so. If we can't find more, I'll restructure the points and weight distribution system for race positions

PS. going to delete the fastest lap point, as it will be very, very hard to police

You obviously haven't seen my times.

Although I was around when Fogbound first showed up. He was smart and didn't take much of my advice. So he wins alot. 👍

I really am taking your advice and lowering the pressure level a notch. I am thinking 20 laps of practice and just doing the race, good or bad and bringing the car home in good shape.

I'm very happy cause today i'm buying my PS3+GT5 bundle

That plus work plus studies will destroy my GT4 times but I'll stand my ground
to prove that 100,000+ A-specers know how to drive.
I feel proud to drive against such drivers (and I'm not talking about AI HA HA HA)

My advice, for what it's worth would be to keep your system as is. Let additional drivers fill in the slots or push me into the lower ones. Lol. That way you don't have to redo it if guys/gals happen to join mid series.
