Since the 1.05 update says you can now make a backup of your save game file, I want to do it in case something happens.
But what exactly do I need to do to accomplish this?

Thanks.

ive been wondering the same thing. I tried doing it normally but it says it is locked. i looked ingame manuel it just says it can now be backed up externally but cannot be used unless that peson is using your id

I believe you need to start your updated game, save it, then you can back it up using the XMB

When someone figures this out can they please make a step by step on how to do this. I'm going out right now and buying a big flash drive to so this.

any news yet on EXACTLY how the backup ferature works? For example if you have 2 PS3s, and have an account with the same PSN on both of them, can you use the usb save data utility to keep them up to date?
OR will it tell you you tried to use this on another account and delete that save?

There are many combinations, and if you mess it up it will tell you you tried to use another persons profile and delete your data!

As far as I can tell, you can only use the backup data on the same PS3, with the same profile. Do you need to be loogged into PSN also to do it?

What about if you have more than 1 ps3. Can you use this backup to play on a another profile you have on your other ps3, with the SAME PSN, but obviously a different ps3, and i guess the profile is different because its a seperattly made one, but its yours and tied to your PSN, so I dont know how GT5 recognises this.

The savegame is tied to the PSN ID, so it's independent of the machine itself, as far as I understand it i.e. you can restore to the same PSN account only (which is a good thing, IMO).

So Wait, you are saying you cannot use the backup feature on profiles that have not set up a PSN account yet, i.e only onlline ones, and you need to be logged into your PSN to work?

Examples

You have your main PSN with your main profile and GT5 save on PS3 #1.

You have another profile on PS3 #2, but have not yet set up your PSN. Can you transfer your PS3 #1 save to PS3 #2?
OR will you need to get PS# $2 online, and log into your PSN? Sign in At least once? Have to be online at the time?

Can both accounts be played at the same time? ONe offline one online? Both?

Etc, its very important we know the exact details

Can you use this to multiply cars?

Back up account #1
Transfer your cars to account #2
Delete account #1
"Reload" account #1 when all cars were still there
Transfer back your cars from account #2 to account #1
Profit?!

You can plug in your USB key and copy a savegame file to it. Works great.

I do not dare to verify how it will work to load it back up again. Maybe can someone that has just started playing try this. If it works only with the chosen username.

No one's actually answered the question yet, so here it is:

Update the game, start it, and save.

Quit to the XMB.

On the Game tab, find and open the Saves folder (NOT the Data folder).

Locate the GT5 save.

Ensure you have either a HDD or USB drive connected to your PS3.

Press Triangle and choose "Copy".

Select your connected drive as the destination.

Done!

Optional: Connect your HDD/USB to your PC/Mac and copy the save folder (simply named "PS3") onto it for safe keeping.

I have mine backed up and it is 556k or about 1/2mb.

When I browse the usb device it say no game saves found, but when I copy it over to the usb drive again it says a file with the same name exist do you want to overwrite..

It sees the save but will not recognoze it as a save so at this time the feature is untrusted to me unless it can be restored.

FYI - I was trying this while offline if it makes a difference.

With the lastest 1.05 update the save can be backed up but yea its tied in to the psn account...actually says it in the in game manual. I saw on a website that says if ya replace
PARAM.PFD
USR-DATA
from the save ya want to use over the files in the save that ya created on your ps3 that it works....I don't have another save to test this though.

I formatted my 4GB USB stick to FAT32 and nothing?! And then tried an external drive and nothing... Any ideas?

Hi
you must create a folder called "PS3" after formatted (the usb stick or the external drive)
;)
