I spent hours trying to win the Mercedes Benz CLK LM on Amg intermediate special event.

And after successfully accomplishing gold (with a DS3) on every challenge, I finally won that beast of a car.

However, few days later I find the CLK LM in the Online Dealership section for a meer 2'000'000 some credits that I could have gotten in 18 minutes by grinding down the ferrari la festival cavillino event on sarthe.

So to try wear out my dissapointment, I decided to take the CLK LM that I WON for a run in some random open lobby.

AND TO EVEN GREATER DISSAPOINTMENT, nearly everyone drove the same car!!! 👎

...I had that too. Only wanted it to try the Nurb 24h in, which failed. Still...at least we did save 2 million credits ourselves! :sly:

I'll be blunt about this: Why should anyone care that you don't like it that others are able to actually access the content in the game?

Toronado pretty much took the words out of my mouth.

I think PD would want the cars they modeled be used, right?

Why people care about car rarity? It's more about how you drive them.
The only bad thing to me was the X2010 carbon being shared by everyone and I don't even have it, nor I care. But I think it is the only car that only skilled people should have.

the GT community has an unhealthy obsession with the opinions of others.
its not enough that someone has a car, but no one else should, and if they do have it, they must have gotten it the same way or via a more difficult method....how you got your car has a major impact on my ability to enjoy my game in my home.

Elitism and insecurity.

I think one of the problems is people forget that GranTurismo is a racing game, and not vehicle-stamp collecting.

Anyone remember what it was like to race for the fun of racing and not just race for the prize?

I was pissed when the rarity of my beloved 106 S16 was smashed, but things happen..

I like racing and collecting!!:)

The only true rare cars are the stealths... which I'm happy to own a stealth F1 and people always bother me about it online.

I consider myself very guilty of this

I got the game as a preorder along with some DLC and I spent most of my evenings waiting for the trade reset to happen so I could get my hands on a different coloured X1 or an LMP that I was missing. This went on for the longest time to the extent that I didnt even race on A Spec or B Spec. It got tiring being a collector. It wasnt fun in the slightest and detracted from the enjoyment Id found in previous games. It pissed me off that much that I traded my copy of GT5 in months and months ago. But recently I found the need to appreciate this game again in the way it should be appreciated so i bought a second hand copy and its sat in my PS3 ever since.

I think the online dealership is a good idea. Id rather race than recycle the UCD and if I buy a car then end up getting it some other way, it doesnt really bother me that much. If its below the trading value cap, ill send it on to someone who would benefit from it.. If I cant pass it on... I have 2... Simples!

PD never intended gt5 to be a trading game. and before any patchs, you could trade as many times as you wanted, that kinda ruined it right there, then came the save feature, then that really killed it. i want it back like GT3, where you had to earn cars, and finish licenses test before moving foward. another option they blew in this game.👎

I'm in the middle here, on one hand it was great to finally find all dtm cars in one place and with 0 miles instead of waiting for it to show up somewhere else which could take weeks if not months but on the other hand every1 had my beloved subaru wrc 99 as soon as it showed up on the online dealership when i traded a CLK-GTR for it as soon as i could because i was getting bored of refreshing the UCD waiting for it to show up.

To be honest I don't really care, the more people have a desirable car, the happier they are if they've always wanted it and also less people will complain its impossible to find a car they want..

I agree with the OP and the post DAGO made. Having a car, such as maybe a Toyota GT1. You feel oh so mighty, then you find many others have the car. Not so special are you? Now don't take what I'm saying the wrong way. I'm not saying people want to feel special about having a "rare" car. I'm not sure how to explain what I mean, but maybe someone else understands. I think a car game would be better if they're were to be a limited number of each car. Example: R34 GTR, only maybe 1,000 exist in the game in the world. That's the kind of game I dream of. The OCD definitely ruins everything for me. I liked having the PlayStation Audi R8 LMS, then it came on the OCD and maybe someone I meet will think "Oh he must've bought that from this week's OCD." Well I didn't. I bought it for full price and everything. I really hate where this game is going, but I still play it for the love of driving. This is why I like the Stealth and Chromeline cars. Not everyone has one. Not even me, which I'm quite upset about, but oh well.

I could care less if I saw another car like mine online. The either earned it, duped it, or traded it. I either earned it, duped it, or traded for it too. So the only thing is, I just want to show them I am faster in the same car! :)

How rare is any car in GT5 ? You can trade most of the cars and borrow glich the rest so you can dupe all cars in the game. So no car is rare in the game anymore , there is no point in saying he beat the harder race and gets better car. Also you can buy most of the cars in USD , they can get them without them being in the OCD.

👍

No car is rare since anyone can get any car without any effort if they want it badly enough.

Well, i understand the point of the OP, but..
The ucd it's just about luck, not rarity. Always finded it stupid because uhm..800 standard cars? 30 slots? Lol. So, yeah, you can struggle months to find a...nissan r89, for axample, when someone (me, true story) have THREE in the ucd at the same time. Like i said, stupid.
The Ocd is a better opportunity.
It was really difficult to find an fgt before, and i was REALLY unlucky with that, lol, an eternity.
Now everyone can have it from the ocd. I have to be angry with them or with pd bacause i had problem to find one when we had only the ucd?

In this case you're talking of a prize, but it's the same. Everyone could find one in the ucd BEFORE we had the ocd. Like all the standards. Luck.

Premium, you can buy them.
No rarity at all in anything.

I do think they should have prize cars that can't be obtained any other way. Didn't they in previous games, for the license tests? Memory is hazy but I'm sure they did.

One of the biggest appeals of the entire gt series is the 'ownership' aspect. That each car has been earned, is special, and unique to it's owner. But when the C9 sauber becomes avaliable to everyone, it becomes boring, you see the car and instantly think "oh he got it from the OCD", and not "hey that car's fricken sweet"! The OCD cars should be 4x more expensive than the ucd price, to make it a 'collectors dealership'.

Wait, lemme get this straight. You are complaining about the rarity of a car that every single player regardless of region or limited edition copies can obtain without too much effort? Get off the crack, because if everyone can win it for free, its not rare to begin with.

In some cases in gt4 they were an exclusive to license tests, but not all.

Indeed. Because how many times you see a car online is far more important than actually racing the car.

Yes. Break the credit system even more than it already is. Perfect plan.

Wow. It's pretty rare to see someone actually admit it, even on accident.

Aside from the obvious attempt to change the subject so you aren't made a fool of, what the hell does that even have to do with this discussion?

I mean, you aren't even using the phrase "Pot calling the kettle black" correctly, because nothing I've said in this thread implies that I support the elitism that you admitted to with your post, so there isn't any hypocrisy to be had.

You are effectively poking fun at people who intentionally use 'rare' cars online, for no other reason than they want to use what other people dont have / dont use...

If you can't put 2 and 2 together I should just leave.

I don't understand why rarity of some cars bothers people , why are you so bothered about what other people have?

They should have done this with all prize cars in GT5 . Made they cars only obtainable after you win the race.

So if you get a car by doing a hard race or challenge , you want to show others you got that car for doing the race not just by buying them.
