On Jan. 18th there is going to be an all-out strike on the internet. Websites across the internet are going dark in protest of the internet censorship bills in Congress, SOPA and PIPA.
Some of the biggest sites in the world are participating: Reddit, Mozilla. And some others may join (e.g. a leading micro-blogging platform and a popular collaboratively-written encyclopedia), but they need a nudge. If we can get them to join this will be EPIC.
Ask the biggest sites on the internet to join the strike. Click here.
If you're on Facebook or Twitter, please use these links to share this:

does any body own a website ? may i also ask Jordan to consider this .
Sopa will affect this web site. as we all know SOPA will allow the government to censor the internet and allowing it to them any body a felon for putting copyrighted material up.. you guys may read up on it if you'd like =D
just doing my part and spreading the word , we have 7 senators out of 42 we need to stop this ridiculousness 1'st amendment offending law that not only affects the us but the whole world as well
if this post is unallowed please shut it down mods but this is really important soo yeaaa..

I've moved this to the Help Desk - while it could've gone in the Rumble Strip or Current Events, I suppose, it is more of a site question, so there you go.

As for an answer, well, I can't provide that :)

I'm not really sure that I understand but what I get from this.

There is some Bill pushed through in the US politics.
So the whole word should stop using the internet for a day to protest.....

Well, simplified, yes. It's basically a warrant to censor anything in American websites for no needed reason. And considering the internet relies heavily on American servers and traffic, that's a massive amount of it at danger. There's a video that explains it better, I can find it if that helps.

SOPA:tdown:

Edit: http://www.theregister.co.uk/2012/01/13/uk_student_extradition_piracy/ this is how it may effect the world :(

The thing is that the bill affects every website in the world, since they will have the choice between respecting the law or saying goodbye to most of the american audience.

As a long time member (not that it means too much), I think it would be really awesome if GTP participated in this.

Correct.

Abstaining from the internet for one day is not how to lobby your case.

Your right, but its good to let people know about this just incase they have been living in a cave for past few months.

Just imagine someone linked to a youtube vid on:gtplanet: with copyrighted material on it then they would be arrested / extradited & :gtplanet: would be shut down.

I'm not saying that this will happen but it could.

I don't know the exact details of SOPA, but that's crazy.
It's just more hassle for everyone. I really hope this doesn't actually happen.

You mean the attempt to pass this wasn't completely ruined by Christmas break?

There seems to be some connection between stupidity and stubbornness.

Both these bills are scary. It will be an interesting week....

I'm very much aware of and concerned about SOPA, and I strongly support the sites which are "going black" to raise awareness about the issue. There are severe consequences for GTPlanet and sites like it if the bill was to pass.

Though I won't be "turning off" GTPlanet on the 18th, I am considering other ways of expressing my opposition.

Oh lordy. I hope this doesn't involve flying a plane through a government building/murder suicide or something like that. :scared:

EDIT:

I was making an allusion to the small plane flown into the IRS some time ago, I completely forgot about 9/11. I meant no disrespect of course.

Har har, you're hilarious :odd:

On the plus side, at least more companies continue to pull support from SOPA, so the longer they spend figuring out what to do with it, the better things are looking in the long run.

Oh god no, its GTplanet it has to be a car. ;)

Anyway 9/11 jokes over. An idea I have is to mute all of the smiles (to symbolise no freedom of speech.)

Oh. 9/11... Crap.

You could make the pages of the forum black to show your support for the Anti-SOPA websites.

I think turning all avatars to a anti SOPA image might be cool, everyone sees it and it's annoying enough for people to want to know more about but also it's not going to hamper anybody's ability to use the site.

SOPA will die if it passes.

It will effect the economy and the government will have no choice but to remove it.

I can't really imagine what the Internet would be like if SOPA passes.
Anyway I hope your right. It will discourage potential investors in new websites (source is my common sense).

actually by not using the internet for one day the economy would get hurt..
any ways if you live in the us call your senators that's the ONLY way you can actually join this fight! and like me spread the word =D

actually it wouldn't ;P , BIG company's are in on it so this is actually good for the government

Actually, it would harm investments in new IP's as the risk factor will be, should this bill pass, exponentially risky... whether they're innovative or not. The only way any investments would be made is if the return is of a far greater percentage than what investors would expect now.

That's taken just from the videos above. Furthermore, why am I not surprised EA supports it? 🤬 asshats.

In any case, this is bull and I'll have none of it.
