I read the first post and would like to join

@spidermonkey

Here's your official SNAIL Welcome Post!

Thanks for your interest!
Here's what you need to know (and do) in order to join the SNAIL [Spec] Racing league:

We run a clean league by enforcing a strict penalty system based on the SNAIL OLR (which is a modified version of the GTP OLR). We also expect all of our drivers to know and follow The Good Racecraft Guide. Please become versed in both if you aren't already. Once that is complete, please follow the steps below to progress with your entry into the league:

  1. You start a conversation, by clicking this link, and add zer05ive, JLBowler, nmcp1, llNovall, Akzl298, JamCar0ne & Dragonwhisky as "Recipients".
    1. The conversation title should be "Request To Join".
  2. SNAIL Administrators will respond with specific instructions on what you need to accomplish to join SNAIL [Spec] Racing.
  3. Place the following links (URLs) in the favorites (or bookmarks) in your web browser for quick reference. Please make every effort to read and understand the following links. Over the years a great deal of time and effort has gone into creating this league and we would like nothing more than to have you but we ask that you take the time and effort to do your homework. 99.9% of any question you may have about SNAIL can be found in the posts below.
    1. All things SNAIL
    2. Original Post
    3. SNAIL OLR Policies and Guidelines
    4. Drivers List
  4. You drive fast and clean on Sunday 👍

Again, the original post has everything you need to know about what to expect on Sunday night and what you will need to have completed in order to be competitive. If you have any questions, please feel free to post your question on the thread.

During the week we run a number of different events, we encourage all SNAILs to join as many as possible.
Welcome to SNAIL

As an aside, there will be more to get done once you start the conversation and, if you want to race this coming Sunday, you'll need to get it all done by 11:59PM eastern time Saturday night.

Even with the snow storm we got in here, We're racing tonight on the CGV! Our plow truck are very effective...

As usual, lobby open around 9:15pm, first start at 9:30pm, all three combos run twice, half distance (ish) and reverse grid.

Seems ths CGV give a lot of trouble to learn, don't miss your chance to practice it with a bunch of cars instead of lonely.

That was an utter and complete blast of fun. All three combos are fun. The least "exciting" one was the Megane. With the GTR, once you dial in the brake oversteer, get the nose pointed where you want it, you can monkey stomp that loud pedal. If BoP didn't neuter these cars for 3 generations of offspring, they'd be even more fun. The Ferrari under BoP is an utter slug off the line, once you get it moving though it reclaims a bit of its removed parts and handles much better than I expected. For being the first time I've ever, ever been around CGV, (not at all like some of our Canadian brethren, one of which may have actually traveled around that track in everything from his feet to watercraft. Not mentioning any names <cough><cough> @bublyman <cough><cough>) I grew to enjoy the gentle curves leading up to 5 chicanes. It's a clockwise oval some psychopath smacked about 10 times with a really big hammer.

I did not save any replays, my apologies.

I gave @DRD_Niagara seven kinds of crap for not using his VR2 scope and just to shut me up he put it on for the last 2 combos. @bublyman is now under a strict, and short suspense to buy himself a VR2 for Niagara and I's birthday on Saturday. SantAmazon FTW there dude! The VR2 collective will assimilate you all!

Now, we just gotta' convince @Kgffy to get off that pad and onto a wheel. ;) :P And oh yeah, I hear @superb3113 has a wheel he don't use. My heart and brain just about broke when I heard that. Why you wanna make a dragon sad man? :( Ya' just gotta commit to submit! 🤣 Yeah, you might be slower as you learn to use the new toys, er, tools, yeah tools, you will get faster and the experience will be more enjoyable in the longer run.

I think Snail needs a "Car-Spotting" sub-forum somewhere. If a Snail comes across a real life rare car, at home or abroad, it would be cool to have a spot to share.

I took lots of cool car pics while in France a couple months ago and was scrolling through them the other day and thought I'd share the following on the heals of the Spec III update we got last week which contained a car I spotted in Monaco.

There was a Ferrari 296 outside the Monte Carlo Casino. But it was the GTS version which comes equipped with a retractable hardtop roof. The version we have in the game is a GTB I believe.

Enjoy

Part of my problem with GT7 and the wheel is that it doesn't feel correct. Idk if it's input lag, or the fact that I can't dial in game settings like I can on PC. I've figured out the pedal sensitivity for throttle response, but I can't get the steering right. Depending on the car, I can't even keep the car on the track due to not being able to correct oversteering like I can on controller. Sometimes, I'll beat my time with wheel vs. controller. Other times, I'll be 2 or more seconds behind. I've even tried left foot braking, which i found works with some cars, but others not so much. I also tried the wheel on the SSX daily race last week. I did fine in the first one, but as soon as someone bumped me in the 2nd race, I went instantly flying into towards the wall as if the car just shot off like a rocket.

On the other hand, I can go on PC to Beam.NG and Asseto Corsa and whip Honda Civics, WRXs, Supra and such around the canyons and through the city with no fuss, no spinning out. Everything feels correct and solid on PC, and am able to correct slides and oversteering properly. This is with the same profile settings set on the wheel itself that I use for GT7.

Joe will always tell me to quit the controller and go cold turkey. That's not how I learn, especially since the wheel behavior isn't clicking. The controller is my baseline reference. I can survive a whole race with a controller, even if I slide, spin out, scrape a wall, etc. I also don't want to cause anyone a race due to my incompetence with a wheel. Until I can figure out whatever isn't clicking for me on the wheel, I will alternative between controller and the wheel until it does, so that i can see if im improving. Of course, I will continue to practice the combos, licenses, and time trials to improve. But please, I'm so tired of hearing everyone ask my why im not using my wheel, and that i should quit using controller. I will get there eventually.

The controller in gt7 has a lot of hidden assists to help drive with...a controller. Full throttle to full brake and back again, going full lock to full lock through corners.
You can't expect to drive in the same manner on a wheel. In GT7, using a wheel demands that your inputs are well thought out and smooth. That's why I say to stop using the controller and practice one way. You may have a learning curve, but at some point you will be faster.

Practicing both ways is kinda extending the learning curve because it's literally 2 different ways of driving.

As far as other games go, physics will be different, but I don't have to significantly change the way I drive in iRacing. Just be careful on cold tires and don't kill them once they do warm up. Both good ways to end up in the wall.

Ive had at least 2 really fast friends buy a wheel and return it with a few days because it didn't feel natural. ( vs using a controller???)

Fair enough. Idly curious, what wheel set do you have?

Wheel setup is a big deal. You have some good voices in here so I'll let them address it, but you're not disadvantaged at all on a GPro. Transition from a controller is tough, and it's never as easy to save a car on the wheel. Even 20 years later. But, it's easier to dance on that edge before you need to get all silly and save it.

A lot of factors in play. If you drive a lot of GT3+ cars, try some combos with softer suspended production cars and Sport or Comfort tyres. Bring it back to basics and get used to how differently you have to drive the car on a wheel. No more point and shoot. Roll speed.
