Although Canada existed prior to 1867, within both the French and British empires, Canada Day is often informally referred to as "Canada's birthday", particularly in the popular press.[4][5][6] However, the term "birthday" can be seen as an oversimplification, as Canada Day is the anniversary of only one important national milestone on the way to the country's full independence, namely the joining on July 1, 1867, of the colonies of Canada, Nova Scotia, and New Brunswick into a wider British federation of four provinces (the colony of Canada being divided into the provinces of Ontario and Quebec upon Confederation). Canada became a "kingdom in its own right" within the British Empire commonly known as the Dominion of Canada.[n 1][8][9][10][11] Although still a British colony, Canada gained an increased level of political control and governance over its own affairs, the British parliament and Cabinet maintaining political control over certain areas, such as foreign affairs, national defence, and constitutional changes. Canada gradually gained increasing independence over the years, notably with the passage of the Statute of Westminster in 1931, until finally becoming completely independent with the passing of the Constitution Act, 1982 which served to fully patriate the Canadian constitution.[12]

Under the federal Holidays Act,[13] Canada Day is observed on July 1, unless that date falls on a Sunday, in which case July 2 is the statutory holiday. Celebratory events will generally still take place on July 1, even though it is not the legal holiday.[14] If it falls on a weekend, businesses normally closed that day usually dedicate the following Monday as a day off.

You guys put up with British rule until 1982? You guys are way too polite!!!! LOL

During the American Revolution, the legal separation of the Thirteen Colonies from Great Britain in 1776 actually occurred on July 2, when the Second Continental Congress voted to approve a resolution of independence that had been proposed in June by Richard Henry Lee of Virginia declaring the United States independent from Great Britain's rule.[5][6] After voting for independence, Congress turned its attention to the Declaration of Independence, a statement explaining this decision, which had been prepared by a Committee of Five, with Thomas Jefferson as its principal author. Congress debated and revised the wording of the Declaration, finally approving it two days later on July 4. A day earlier, John Adams had written to his wife Abigail:

The second day of July, 1776, will be the most memorable epoch in the history of America. I am apt to believe that it will be celebrated by succeeding generations as the great anniversary festival. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.[7]

Adams's prediction was off by two days. From the outset, Americans celebrated independence on July 4, the date shown on the much-publicized Declaration of Independence, rather than on July 2, the date the resolution of independence was approved in a closed session of Congress.[8]

Historians have long disputed whether members of Congress signed the Declaration of Independence on July 4, even though Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, and Benjamin Franklin all later wrote that they had signed it on that day. Most historians have concluded that the Declaration was signed nearly a month after its adoption, on August 2, 1776, and not on July 4 as is commonly believed.[9][10][11][12][13]

Coincidentally, both John Adams and Thomas Jefferson, the only signers of the Declaration of Independence later to serve as Presidents of the United States, died on the same day: July 4, 1826, which was the 50th anniversary of the Declaration.[14] Although not a signer of the Declaration of Independence, James Monroe, another Founding Father who was elected as President, also died on July 4, 1831. He was the third President who died on the anniversary of independence.[15]Calvin Coolidge, the 30th President, was born on July 4, 1872; so far he is the only U.S. President to have been born on Independence Day.[16]

July was just a bad month for Britain in the Americas!!!!

@Mike Lobban Since you're doing it for us 'Mericans - How about at least one race of VGTA Mustangs and Camaros to celebrate July 4...
Guess not gonna make it tonight... my oldest son bought a brand new dirt bike... so gotta go riding with him

Have to take my son to soccer practice about the time that the lounge starts. If there’s a long qualifier I might be able to make it back. If the racing starts early then I won’t .

Looks like 230cc bikes. Those have to be fun as hill on single track.
Come on @Herimopp89 don't miss your promotion night.
200-250s ... should have waited till my protective gear arrived.. hit a rock in deep grass on the side of a hill. Barely moving, bailed off, rolled down the hill a bit and bruised my shoulder on another rock..
mama bear give me ****. Least I had a helmet.

And now for something..............serious.

A number of you are FB friends with me and will see the post I put there, but for those that aren't I want to reiterate here.
Saturday was the one year anniversary of my accident, and it has been a tough one for sure. I was hoping to be walking unassisted by now, but realize this is going to take a bit longer than planned. I know it will come but it sure is a slow process. For the most part the pain isn't too bad, it's mainly in the evenings after being active during the day, the lower left leg and foot being the main culprit of discomfort, but I have found ways to deal with it as most of you know, lol. I am very lucky to have an amazing wife, life would have been way harder without her with me every day.

I just want to say a big thank you to all of you for your support you have shown. The visits, the cards, and great gifts you sent during those long days in the hospital, were such a big boost for my moral. You are a great bunch who I consider good friends, cheer's guy's!

Edit:
This was meant for here as well.
The two pics attached are one in the ICU the day of the accident, and at the gym a couple of weeks ago. Seeing that pic in the ICU makes me realize how far I have come, and how lucky I am to be where I am now.

Ahh, all I got was a bruised collar bone. I'm not whining, just counting myself lucky. I don't know if I would have the fortitude you have Steve. Well I did whine a little bit when mama bear kept putting ice on it. And also forbade me to race until the swelling goes down.
And I had to listen to i told you so... wait till your protective gear gets here she said..but noooo I had to go riding.
Hope this cheers you up. Misery loves company you know. That's what my Mom used to say.

:gtpflag: Cars and Track for July 8th :gtpflag:

Red's suggestion to us was this:

One of the problems with a 3 Race night seems to be that the grass is always greener on the other side.....
Suggestion: If you use three cars of different performance levels, (Car 1, Car 2 and Car 3), where Car 1 is the fastest and Car 3 is the slowest, then:

Race 1: Group A is in Car 2 and Group B is in Car 3
Race 2: Group A is in Car 1 and Group B is in Car 2
Race 3: Group A is in Car 3 and Group B is in Car 1

Race 1 and 2 will have sufficient separation between groups and you would expect that Group B will lead the last race.

We thought this was a great idea, so we will give it a try, no more moaning from the A guy's that the B guy's get the better car!

So.......

3 Race Format, Pit stops.

Track : Long Beach Street Circuit.

Car 1: Ginetta G55 GT4
Car 2: Ginetta G40 GT5
Car 3: Ginetta G40 Junior
