The problem with the error code is that it shows the Fun Pack screen for about 2 seconds then crashes to the blue screen with the error message on it. On the official PCars forum a lot of people are having the same issue and are complaining. I know SMS seems spooked because some user named KrypticTMG (or something like that) is having the problem and is going on YouTube to post it. I guess he must have a lot of subscribers if they actually care what one users problem is.

@Robbie: what are you doing on a Friday night hanging out online with a bunch of BOBs? Go out there and chase some tail, get hammered, and wake up with a tramp stamp tattoo and a vague recollection of dancing with a “woman” who looked suspiciously like Kevin Spacey’s twin sister. Youth really is wasted on the young! Lol
Let’s call it “racing career preservation” ;)

Mine was crashing trying to select a car in the practice section. But I was able to run a custom race no problems, at least as far as quali.

"I can, still DLing, my max is 10MBPS, gonna take about 3 hrs!:banghead: I was texting with Mike and it took him 10 minutes or so......but the trade off's for living out here in the country are worth it!"

Don't get your hopes up just yet. It took me about 8 minutes to download the patch, but 4.0 is messed up for a lot of us. It starts up ok, but when I hit the "X" button it takes about 45 seconds for the intro video to begin. When I press "X" again to skip the video and get into the game I get a brief message screen that says: Fun Pack expansion pack is available (has a picture of the Monster Energy Ford Mustang). I already have that pack and then it goes to a blue screen with Error Code (CE-34878-0). Hopefully they'll figure it out fast. Seems about 50% of those who have downloaded the patch are getting the error code. I'd be pissed if it took my 3+ hours to download it just to have the patch be messed up and have to start all over again.

You don't press "X" to skip the intro boy. It supposed to be the "O" (Back) button.
Sorry to hear bout the problems you getting though. My download went fast and smooth. Saw the Fun Pack notification, clicked to check it out and I think it said it was already installed. Clicked on "X" to start the game. Intro started and pressed "O" to skip the intro. All seems good.
You sure is not a problem with the hardrive or extra hardrive you put in?

I was stupid enough to (re)initialize my PS4 which returned it to factory settings and it erased EVERYTHING. Took 4 hours to do. Redownloaded PCars 2 and I’m still getting the error code. Every other game was working fine after the HDD swap, including PCars 2 (until I did the “patch”). Even after I downloaded patch 4.0 and got the PCARS error code every other game was still working fine, so obviously it’s not the HDD and it has something to do with SMS/PCars and/or Sony. Of course they’re blaming Sony and not really saying anything about it, and Sony hasn’t responded publicly at all yet. There are people on their official forum complaining of the same problem.

TL;DR: if you have the error code, don’t delete the game and reinstall - it doesn’t work. And definitely DON’T wipe everything by doing an “initializing” because it doesn’t work either!

Yep. It don’t. Gotta wait for there fix

Somebody has posted, on the public forum, that launching the game with LAN (and WLAN) disabled, to start in offline mode, has allowed the game to launch. If those struggling with the CE error code want to give that a try. I guess that, once launched, you can then re-connect but that's not mentioned. I don't have a PS4 so I can't test this out, sorry

For those having problems, maybe this will work, good luck.

Sorry to hear that - that REALLY sucks. friggen' computers...

I still get the error if I try to select a car for Free Practice, but last night I was able to run a race with Camel and gang with no issues. Are you able to do anything at all without the error Gutter?

I tried what SGETI suggested and the game worked fine as long as I was offline and didn't have my PS4 connected to the internet. Of course since I was offline it didn't have my saved profile so it thought I was new to the game - in other words it had the walkthrough ("this is how you select a car...this is how you select a track”, etc.). I then tried to use wi-fi instead of my LAN cable to connect to the internet and I was able to get a little further in to the game than I did when using the LAN cable, but I still got the blue screen error. Hopefully SMS/Sony will figure it out.

I might try to download PCars onto my other PS4 that I use for flight sims and FPS games. If it works I'll switch out that PS for the one I use for my racing rig and driving games. Wish me luck!

***EDIT*** Well, I installed PCars on my other PS4 and received the same error code. All my other games on both playstations work fine both on and off line, so unless PCars doesn't like my IP address I don't know what the issue is.

Me and Aero were getting booted from the whole game every time we tried to pick the GTO Ferrari. Just that car, otherwise, no issues here. I do notice the track lines are a little sharper, and my FFB is super weak now.

I know of 5 people that have had problems so far. They have deleted their game and reinstalled. They kept their saved data and loaded it back up after the reinstall. It has worked every single time for those guys.

I've done that (delete and reinstall), and will try it again. But putting it on both of my PS4s and getting the same error code tells me either it's my game disc (which worked perfectly before 4.0), internet IP, or most likely SMS/Sony. All of my other games working both on-and-offline tells me it's probably SMS/Sony.

Off topic: Here's a link to a free copy of Racer magazine. It's a few years old, but if you like motorsports this is a great mag for only $10/year for the digital download copy subscription.

Well hopefully it works for you. Seems that the patch is trying to recognize that you have to have the Fun Pack whether you already have it or not. Seems like the system installing the game with the fun pack at the same time (the re-install) has gotten around that.....for most people anyways

.....I'm not disputing your issues Bear, but you certainly seem to have more than anybody else, and pretty much every week at that. I'd be seriously thinking about wiping the game entirely from your system and starting over with a clean install. Just a thought.
Could be Alzheimers too.

Not me. I have done it twice. I'll wait for the fix.

Thanks for the help and encouragment in getting this fixed. The only reason I keep posting is that some others might see this thread and see whats been done and does/does not work. Here's a post from SMS:

We've tried a server side fix for the launch crash - it almost certainly won't help, but it is worth a try at least. Could somebody who was getting the crash please try again now?

EDIT - it goes without saying that we're gutted about this problem, and very sorry it has happened. We had no problems in developer, publisher or Sony testing - obviously that doesn't help those that have the issue now though. Rest assured that we're working very hard to resolve it as soon as we possibly can.

And Lobban, you're not the only one having an issue with Ferrari's (specifically the F40) crashing the game:

Skid_Mark
Kart Drive
I can start the game, but when i want to choose a car in custom race, the game crashes. 2x at the same point (navigating through the Ferraris). Now i don't touch the game till it is fixed. I'm on PS4 Slim with PC2 Deluxe Version from German PS Store.

marctwok
Rookie PS4 Pro
Check if it’s the F40 that causes the crash. I have been able to reproduce this crash consistently.

xtro
Superkart Pilot Platform PS4 Pro
I tested this too on ps4 pro... selecting the f40 in custom race mode crashes the game every time. ty dude

Sentry87
Kart Driver
Same here, game is fine except when i highlight f40 in car select screen then the game crashes. What do we all have in common? I'm ps4 standard, g29 wheel, little career progress, little online play (So light on save files), a couple setups for a couple cars, only dlc I have downloaded atm is Japanese car pack.

Strange. Seems to be a common problem with selecting the Ferrari F40 then. I'm assuming it's the "F40 LM"?
If this is the case then we'll most likely have game crashing issues on Monday night with this being the car for the Group A drivers, not so? That won't be very nice.
May be better to choose a different car for the Group A won't it? A bit late I know but better safe than sorry.

:gtpflag: Announcement. :gtpflag:

Meant to post this earlier but the evening got away from me. As Mike mentioned, both of us had the game crash when selecting only the Ferrari F40 LM. Then I got Nick to try it after and same thing for him. And it looks to be an issue for others. So it’s obvious we cannot race this car.
Group A will now be racing the 2015 Renault Sport R.S.01 GT3.

Road America is only one layout, so you know what that likely means. ;)

jeeezzz...get off my case.....what are you guys, the thread police  I thought I would at least get the message out late last night on my phone and then fix the rest this morning.
We're just making you work for your money. :)

BTW, how much gas we have to put in?.....tic tock tick tock....

****Patch 4.0 Glitch (temporary) "Work-Around". **** Create a new user on your PS4, and use that account to play PCars 2. My temporary user name with limited friends on my list is C_MONKEY007 (that’s an underscore and zero zero 7 - zed zed for you Canucks)

It seems like too many people on your friends list can cause the glitch, as crazy as that sounds. I created a new user name and the game started just fine. I'm going to delete some friends from my list who I haven't been in a game with for awhile (I was at 346 friends on my list, some of which I don't even remember what game or how I met them). I'll drop about 1/2 and see if that allows me to log on to PCars with my GUTTER-BOY account. Not sure what the magic number of friends is to prevent the glitch, but at least this is a way to get online with PCars.

Also, if you are getting the Ferrari F40 glitch and can't use Time Trial, it's because you most likely were practicing with that car prior to Patch 4.0, so TT remembers that is the last car you used and won't let you into TT because of it. The Devs know about the glitch and are trying to fix it.

Suggestion for removing friends list: use your iPad or other device rather than your PS4 if you need to remove a lot of people. It takes forever to do it via the PS4, but it’s easier using the app on another device. Only remove about 5 to 7 at a go because if you try too many it freaks out the app and will give you a “timed out” error message and you can’t remove more friends for awhile.

Been going through about a million posts on the post-patch 4 crashing issue. The consensus from users testing is the issue stems from two issues. Number one devil being the Ferrari F40. (Do not try to select this car until it fix for it is available or unless you enjoy going to the dark side).
The other being the amount of friends on your list. It appears 235 or lower is safe. Over 235 you begin dancing with the devil.

BTW Gutters. "Monkey"?.....Strange name bro.

@David: BTW Gutters. "Monkey"?.....Strange name bro.

C_MONKEY = my last name starts with a C, and monkeys are nature’s comedians (and "freaks", as seen in the last video). And C_MONKEY is also a play on the name “Sea Monkeys” you could buy out of the back of comic books when I was a kid. I bought some and none of the bastards ever had a crown or built underwater castles! They actually looked like something you used to fill the “reservoir tip” with! Nasty little creatures. Lol. Kids nowadays couldn’t have them because they’d try to eat them like Tide Pods.

Yea, I'd run too!...... you're really pushing it now eh David......I don't usually post those numbers until race day.......it's pretty simple math that I'm sure you can figure out....... :D

If anyone is interested, or doesn't know, or for you math challenged folks, coughinsertnamecough.......read on....this is how I figure out each weeks laps and fuel.

We need race in laps for pit stops to work correctly (this might not be required now with the new patch), regardless, still the same math required.
So here is this weeks scenario.

Grp B
30 min race length = 1800 seconds
Avg lap time of 2:20.xxx = 140 seconds
1800/140 = 12.857 So I round off to closest even lap number, so 12 laps
Fuel lap avg = 3.4 litres. So 12 x 3.4 = 40.8 I then add 10% to pad fuel and round up to next even #, so 44.88= 46 liters total. So max starting fuel would be 23 litres.

Grp A
30 min race length = 1800 seconds
Avg lap time of 2:15.xxx = 135 seconds
1800/135 = 13.333 So I round off to closest even lap number, so 14 laps.
(At this point I make a decision on laps based on time we spend during the evening to help keep the night on schedule, I will usually go towards the lower number of laps (gpr b @ 12) to take in the time spent in the ready up stage and rolling start ect.)
Fuel lap avg = 3.6 litres. So 12 x 3.6 = 43.2 I then add 10% to pad fuel and round up to next even #, so 47.52= 48 liters total. So max starting fuel would be 24 litres.

As A & B are so close in fuel I round up again to 50 litres total, so both groups start with 25 max. This process ensures that no one should run out of fuel and you usually have more than needed. You can usually get away with putting slightly less fuel in at the pitstop but you will have to figure that one out yourself, and is 5 liters or so worth the risk!

Maths make my head hurt. The explanation/formula helps me understand better though. Thanks. See? That's why you get the big bucks.
I'm gonna copy and save that formula for posterity and reference. Cheers Aero.
