McTrucker: Me too, I'm just bummed that GTS is only you against one (non-adjustable difficulty) AI car and you can't do a full grid or even run the campaign in VR. Get DiRT Rally VR - it's incredible! Drive club VR isn't great, but it's on sale really cheap in the Playstation store. DiRT Rally VR kind of made me nervous while running up Pikes Peak. I forgot I wasn't really on the mountain. Can't wait for Ace Combat 7 to come out, I heard it'll really feature alot of VR content.

@GUTTERBOY3007 , is Dirt Rally's VR an add on to the original game? Or is it a totally separate game?
 
Didn't do my proper research, therefore was unaware that the Playstation camera is required for VR. So I'll have to test it out tomorrow after a trip to Best Buy. :irked:
 
I already had one, but the GTS PSVR combo came with one too. My wife got the combo on special for $199, and it’s the early generation headgear compared to the newer one. No clips for the headphones to connect to the headset, thicker wires, etc. I’m not sure I’d recommend it (yet) for the normal $299, or the newer combo that is around $400+. It’ll be interesting to see the vr technology in 5 years, or see if it will go the route of 3D TV. The 3D TV won’t take off until you no longer need to wear 3D glasses, so I’m curious of what will happen with VR. It’s perfect for driving and flying sims, so I hope they keep developing it.

And Gr8: I dont have the new move controllers, but I’m hoping my old PS3 Tiger Woods move controllers I used for golfing will work with any PS4 VR games. Do you have them or even know which games use them?

****And for you guys having issues with chat and car volume, try going into settings—devices—audio devices— and try changing chat to either all or chat (or whatever the options are called) and see if that helps. I had the same thing happen tonight and could barely hear my car. I changed the chat from “all” and it fixed it. I’m away from my PS4, but I’ll double check the way I did it.

When you're wearing the VR headset what do you use to steer the wheel and what about the buttons on the wheel or controller? How do you see them in order to use?

No not at all. It feels more like real driving. But you cant see your perifreal sight on sides and wont realize if you are vearing off track while you are looking around.
 
@David: You still use a steering wheel or controller to move around in the game, it’s just a couple of TV screens in the headset. Once you know where all the buttons are to play a game, you usually do it by feel and don’t need to look at the X button, or whatever, to know where the button is. Even with the VR headset on I know where my shifter is mounted to the right side of my rig, so I know exactly where it is by muscle memory. Using my button box would be tougher with the headset on because I don’t have the layout memorized. With VR, you look around by moving your head and the “TV screens” move with you so now you look to the left/right/up/down and it’s like real life so you see whatever’s to your left, etc. It makes your brain think you’re actually inside of a car instead of regular gaming where you know you’re looking at a TV screen because you still see everything else that is around you in the real world. Hard to explain if you’ve never experienced it. Think of it this this way: VR is the next step in making racing games more realistic. You can race using a DualShock controller while sitting on the couch, but a force feedback steering wheel and pedals makes it more realistic and closer to how you drive a car in real life. Same with a race rig: I’m now seated in a race seat like I would be if I was in a car, not sitting on a couch which is unrealistic. I added a Buttkicker Gamer II to my racing rig so I can feel the rumble strips on the track, vibration from the motor when I rev it, or impact when I land a jump in a rally car, so now it “tricks” my brain into thinking I’m closer to really driving. VR is the next step because now I’m surrounded by a virtual world and I’m inside of the game world wherever I look around while wearing the headset I see only the virtual world. Without it, when I look around and not at the TV screen I see I’m in my basement playing a game and not actually at a racetrack. It’s still a work in progress, but VR is going to really change gaming. Watch McTrucker’s video again, once he’s racing you can see him look over at the other car or look to the apex just by turning his head like he would in the real world.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas. It's been a chilly one here, right now it is -30C, feels like -35C (that's -22F, feels like -31F). Yup, Trinidad and Hawaii sound pretty good at the moment!

Interesting reading the comments about VR from some of you. I think I am going to wait until the next gen stuff is out and PCars is ready. From the research I have been doing it looks like we are still a couple/few years away from a really truly immersive VR experience. PS5 2020 is the guess right now.

Here's a great documentary of my childhood hero, and why I love the classic Lotus so much. I was 8 when Jim Clark died, and remember the day only because of seeing my dad cry.
 
I actually thought of you last night @davidt33 . You just don't know what you're missing if you've never experienced chiselling chunks of ice off your windshield in order to free up your wipers. Then, as you drive down the road leaving home, the snow blowing off your hood hits your warm windshield and does this instant melting then refreezing thing, which makes it very hard to see until you get to the next stop sign/light where it melts again. Good times. Not quite as cold here as the boys up in Canada have it, but it was around 8* Fahrenheit (-13* Celsius last night).

It was 7 degrees when I went out to chop wood for the morning fire this morning. Your right aero....that kind of cold will make you feel alive. It sure as hell will wake you up real fast.

I just left this brief review on the SNAIL site:

So I just ran my first GTSport VR race. While this is still new technology, and we can only race two car, head to head races, I have to say my mind is blown! There's a lot of folks complaining about the low resolution, lack of full car fields, etc. etc. But all I can say is, this technology is just beginning and is going to revolutionize sim-racing. I ran a three lap race at Big Willow in the Alpha 4C. I've never drifted a car on pavement so frequently, and with so much confidence. It just seems so much more natural in 3D. The only disorienting part of the race: when I tried to adjust the center rear-view mirror. It was so weird. My hand didn't come off the steering wheel, and there was no mirror when I grabbed for it. It's REALLY that immersive. Crazy immersive. The rear-view mirror can be kind of obtrusive in that car, and I kept leaning and ducking to see the apexes - which works. And then being able to check your blind spots in the mirrors, or looking left or right, all just so neat. I'll agree with others that the images aren't crystal clear, but they're definitely clear enough to be convincing of reality. The future is bright. This is only going to get better and better. We're in for some serious treats over the next five to ten years. Any of you Michigan fellas that want to come and try it out, give me a holla.

While holding out for the next generation, or PS5 is understandable, this is a very cool experience to dive into now. Especially since it was a gift from my wife and son. I'm pretty amazed at how cool it actually is. Going to jump into Dirt Rally and spend the rest of the night running up Pike's Peak.

(Couple hours later) Wow, It's been a long time since I drove in Dirt Rally. Had a hard time adjusting to the steering ratios, and doing it in VR was even harder. Couldn't keep my car out of the ditches. But, I'll re-familiarize myself with the game, and then I'm sure it will be fun. All in all, VR is friggin' crazy cool guys. It's not for competition with your buddies yet, but it's amazingly fun by yourself. And I haven't even explored porn yet! (Kidding, not going to happen)

Tried this, volume goes from all to nothing when I make the change. Funny thing is though, when I leave the PCARS 2 game and go into the PS4 menu, the menu music about blows my ears out. I'm telling you, there is something just not right about some of our games.

Yup, it's what made me say I didn't want VR a year ago. But it kept nagging at me, and I know Dirt Rally is an awesome game that has great VR. So I just decided to beg for it for Christmas.

It seems the trouble is seeing multiple vehicles, which is understandable now that I've experienced it. That's sooo much processing. How can the computer keep up with what I might look at next. If you look at a couple of my videos I made last night, you'll quickly realize why it's so difficult for the computer to keep up. I kept looking everywhere except the track ahead of me, and kept seeing stuff I've never noticed before. It's friggin' amazing. It's also why I kept driving off track. :dunce: :lol: And keep in mind, these videos don't do it justice, because you're actually seeing everything in the best 3D imaging you've ever seen. No 3D movie with glasses has ever come close to the 3D you see when you put the goggles on.

Took a look at one or two of the vids. That certainly takes some getting accustomed to it seems with the screen tilting so much, being so unsteady. Had me pretty disoriented.
