Hey Guy's,
So we are doing an adjustment to the divisions for this week, but I want to explain how Mike and I came up with what we did. So please bare with me as I go over some stuff that some of you already know but some don't, and sometimes it's just worth repeating.
The last few times we went strictly by the numbers from the spreadsheet I have done up. This tracks every race you have done and then calculates your average position for the time you have been in your current division. The pic below is the current standings as of last Monday.
So in the past we took the top two or three drivers from B and moved them to A, and the bottom two or three from A and moved to B. This was to try and keep the overall numbers close in the two divisions. Here's the problem, we move the three guys as per the the explanation above. On average, the racing itself between those guys wouldn't change much, it's just now they'd be fighting at the front instead of the back and vice versa. Or, just be doing laps by themselves.
The whole point of the Lobanaro Lounge from the start was to have a place for mid pack drivers to get together and have a place where they would hopefully always have someone to race against and even have a chance to win. Right from the start there was a problem, and his name is SGETI. There was no way that Mike and I could start a league and not have our racing bud of four years be with us! So there we were with a guy that most of the time was going to whoop our butts, (occasionally we'd humble that chunk of Cape Cod metal). And then it started with, "well we let SGETI in so why not a few of our other faster mates", which led to many different scenarios over time of how to give the slower guys a chance to get near the top if that was what they wanted. After some time we settled in to what we now run and it has been going not so bad. But as always in any league, you're going to have the same guys near the front and the same guys near the back, but we don't really care about that in so much as we hope all are just having fun and have someone to race with.
We are not going to go by the numbers this time. Mike and I are well aware of the skills and levels of all the drivers here and have a pretty good idea of who races with who a lot. The division thing really doesn't matter, just because you're an A doesn't necessarily mean you're better than a B, it just keeps the driver skills closer to hopefully create scenario's where you always have someone to race against. So we have grouped together the people we know that, on average, race against one another more often than not. We are also not going to worry so much about trying to keep the numbers equal between the divisions. In a couple of weeks, if one guy is still dominating in group B then we will move that person up to A, and if an A guy is struggling to keep up with the others then we'll move him to B. We know what is what and will just go by that. If you don't like where you are placed that is too bad, I know it is hard to please everyone but we can't have people whining, this is all for the betterment of a place to just have some good fun and clean racing, the emphasis on fun! We have a great group of guys here and I think all understand what Mike and I are trying to do.
