Sorry for the double post, figured someone would have posted before now. I won’t be able to make it tonight. Have a good race. Wife’s just getting back in town, plus I’m going to see about a CBX 6-cylinder engine for a project. Got to get up early since it’s a couple of hours away. Those old Honda motors sound like an old-school F1 car. Not the most powerful, but one of the best sounding!

Have to ask, what are you planning on doing with a CBX engine? I did a bunch of work on a couple of them in the early '80's.

@Aero, how were they to work on? Anything unusual or problem areas to watch out for?
I’m thinking of building a cafe racer and using an old cruiser as the basis (CB, Virago, Magna or maybe even a Goldwing). Just starting out and in the “inspiration” phase, so nothing is set in stone. Right now I’m looking for a good donor motor and will then design around it. I thought about an old Kawi H2 750 triple 2-stroke, but they’re hard to come by, same with the BMW R90S boxer. So I think it’ll be the Honda 6 if I can get one in good shape. If not, I’ll just go for a monster-sized thumper just to be different. Or build it off a V-Max and use the V4 it already has. Here are some designs I like. Each has it pros and cons, but it gives some idea of the basic design I’m after.

The CBX was typical of most Honda engines of the day, reliable, strong and hardly ever needed much more than valve adjustments. (If I remember correctly, on the CBX you have to tilt the entire engine forward to do the valve clearance's). But you had to be careful when building a performance engine as the valve trains were on the weaker side. As far as transverse multi's go, the Kawi's were always the strongest engine. But with the type of project you are looking at doing, it is likely you are just going for that aesthetic look, so a stock engine with a pipe would likely be fine.
Because this classic Cafe craze has been going on for awhile now, a lot of these older bikes have become a lot harder to find and more costly. The CBX and R90S for example, are hard to find and very expensive for a decent one. A kawi H2 is like gold now, awesome engines, but the chassis sucked big time! A Virago would be a much easier bike to find, and with a fair bit of mods could get the look you are after.

but gave up because they were too expensive for a good one or complete crap. I have two bikes in the shop that are slated for the cafe treatment, a '74 Honda CJ360 and a '03 600 Katana, can't find where I put the pics of what I plan to do though.

Good fun last night. The ginetta junior felt off. Previous times ive drove that car it never understeered like that. Other then that good run.

Four Race Format

Because Mike and I are such, nice, understanding, caring and compassionate guys, we have gone against our “no races at Laguna Seca” mantra and decided to have a race there just to appease you reprobates.
As for COTA National, that’s me, (the nicer of the two of course), finally getting tired of Lobban’s incessant “we never get to race the National circuit” whining!

The cars, those were Lobban’s choice this week. After all, he is part German

Wish I would have sucked it up for Monday, but glad I didn't. Wound up getting stuck at work for 17hrs due to unit issue's (Not including the 2.5 hrs it took to get to and from work). Woke up at 02:30, got to work at 04:30 then made it home by 23:30. Had the company pay for Premium Uber at a little over $250. Man of my Ilk does not do economy . I'll be there this Monday. B guys driving the 71?
