Still unclear to you?

That actually looks pretty good to me. So blah. And really people? One little thing happens and OH NOES!!! I'm not gonna play with 800 cars!!! :dunce: I mean seriously, you sound like spoiled children. Those cars are part of GT history, and you choose not to use them because they aren't as pretty? That's one the stupidest thing I've heard in my entire life! And believe me, I've heard some pretty stupid things.

+1000 👍👍

We all know that Head Tracking has been confirmed, correct? If Head Tracking will be in the game then there is no way that the 800 Stand cars will NOT have a cockpit view. They have to have a cockpit view in order for head tracking to work. If not then that important feature would only be of use 1/5 of the time?

I really hope that all the Standard cars will be high enough quality that we won't be able to tell the difference when mixing them with the Premium cars during a race. It would look pretty whacky if the quality and level of detail is night and day between the two. I also hope the Standard cars will have a high enough quality where it would match the cars in Forza 3 or slightly better. Racing a Premium next to a Standard that looks worse than the cars in Forza 3 would be like getting stabbed repeatedly in the eye.

Don't waste your time hoping, becuse there is no hope, unless you can not tell the difference between a GT4 car and a GT5 car.

OR head-tracking will only work w/ premium cars...

You have a copy of the final GT5 already? Sweet! How is the game? Pretty good?

Another problem with the standard cars...

The standard cars by no means look bad... But you're talking no damage, no cockpit view, no headtracking, no (or limited) customisation (Because premium models had body panels modelled individually, which might be replaceable with aftermarket parts... But GT4 models were one single wire frame).

Let's also be clear, that standard cars are only limited by the models/appearence. They have the raw sound samples for each individual car they included in GT4. We saw from GT5:P spec 1 that the sounds were the same, so presumably they were from the same type of raw samples. So this means, whatever effects they have added to get the improved engine sounds are also going to be applied to the standard cars. So don't worry about sound.

Im really dissapointed but there is enough other features in this game to balance it out. My only fear is we wont be able to race standard and premium together.

p.s Why in gods name did they waste 20 precious premium spots with nascar race cars, seriously :(

I'm getting sick of all the pessimism here. I don't know about you guys, but I'm going to buy the game, play it and enjoy it regardless of the number of interiors or visual quality of the standard cars. 200 premium cars =/= 200 cars, so I am going to enjoy this game instead of bitching about the graphics

And I'm getting sick of people missunderstanding me all the time. I was just telling the truth. Even my sister will be able to see a clear difference between the premium cars and the GT4 cars.

I'm going to enjoy it as well, a lot! But once again I will not drive the standard (GT4) cars because I don't think they look good, simple as that.

I totally agree with the thread starter!!!! ... PD/ Sony expects me to buy a game and enjoy 25% of it. Lower the car count by getting rid of useless1hp cars & SUVs & pickup trucks and all the junk like that. I wanna drive/race the cars. Not meander around a track with them. Then they would be able to focus on the cars that we (admit it guys) ALL buy the game for, and model each 1 with the same attention.

What's the point of having over 1000 cars to choose from when 90% of us only drive about 50% of the cars ( not accurate figures obviously, but you get my point)

p.s. I saw a new GT5 vid today. Part of it showed the 2000 C5R racing a Viper GTS-R. the engine notes were the same as from GT4. i.e: asthmatic. I consider that a red flag. Yeah yeah, i have to play the game 1st & THEN form an opinion , yadda yadda yadda.....

Just because there is a difference in visual quality does not mean there is "no hope". It does not make them unplayable in any way shape or form.

No, but he said he hoped they would look good enough so you should not be able to tell the difference between standard and premium cars during a race. And there is no hope that's gonna happen, since everyone can tell the difference between a GT4 car model and a GT5 premium car model. Get me?

Trust me, I'm just as pissed off as you are. If anything, I'm even more pissed off than you are because I'm a huge graphics whore and my favorite driving view is the cockpit view. I was expecting 1000 beautifully rendered cars to be in GT5. I just saw the video of the standard cars and they look absolutely horrible. It would look rediculous to race a premium car next to a standard due to how big of a difference in quality they are.

They should have went the same way they did with GT3 (150 cars). Release GT5 with whatever cars they have done and leave the rest for GT6. I really hate this because I was defending PD and GT5 on another forum, so now I'm going to look like a jack ass. The standard cars aren't even Forza 3 quality.

I also have an Xbox 360 and Forza 3. The visuals are not GT5 Premium quality, but they're not that bad at all. I would rather have that level of quality for all 1000 cars than have 200 ultra realistic looking cars and 800 cars that looks like it is running on 25% of the PS3's power.

I was really looking forward to driving "in" some of my favorite cars, but I guess that will have to wait. I still don't know how head tracking will work with only a 1/5th of the cars having a cockpit view. That is kind of bad when you're looking at it from a gameplay perspective. No consistency. It's a shame really.

Awaiting someone to quote me and tell me to not buy the game. Wait for it...

I will still love GT5 and will play it constantly, but part of me will always feel dissapointed that the 'standard' cars aren't up to scratch. I guess I will mostly drive the 200 'premium' cars and forget about the 'standard' cars, unless they can polish the exteriors up to GT5 quality.

Oh so you've seen a mixed race? Cool where can I find that?

I bet everyone is gonna use the Premium cars instead of the Standard cars.

I won't, I will be using them all.

Think you're funny?

No, I have not seen a mixed race, but I have seen both types of cars, and I for one can clearly see a big difference between them.

p.s Why in gods name did they waste 20 precious premium spots with nascar race cars, seriously :(

Thats somehow worse then Suzuki Cappuccino, Suzuki Servo, Daihatsu Copen Active Top, Daihatsu OFC-1, Ford Focus, 15 skylines and who knows what else getting the premium treatment ?

In case you haven't noticed NASCARs are all nearly identical on the inside and out. Its not like they had to model 20 different cars 👎

At least the NASCARs can actually flip...if you ran the Suzuki Servo full speed into a barrier it would probably just fall on its side!

I believe the main point I that we are missing out on full prem cars. 200 let's say of them in order to fit in 39 Nissan skylines

I for one can't name 500 cars off the top of my head. So there is goin to be heaps of multiples. And u for one like the op would prefer to see 400 or 500 proper cars. Rather than
skyline 90
skyline 91
evo x
evo xi
evo ix
evo iix
evi GSR iix
etc

This was in GT5P alone. Add on top of this 10 "tuned" cars that take up premium space and NASCARs and your looking at maybe only 80-90 truly unique "premium" cars :guilty:

Nissan Skyline Coupe (V36) Tuned Car
Nissan Skyline Coupe 370GT Type SP '07
Nissan Skyline Coupe Concept '07
Nissan Skyline GT-R V-spec II Nur '02
Nissan Skyline Sedan 350GT Type SP '06

Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR '05
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR Premium Package '07
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X GSR Tuned Car
Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution IX GSR Tuned Car

Mazda RX-7 (FD) Special Tuned Car
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) '02
Mazda RX-7 Spirit R Type A (FD) Tuned Car
Mazda RX-8 Type S '03

Lotus Elise 111R '04

Why 1000? because it's more than the 830+ in GTPSP and thus, breaks their own record for number of cars in a game.

And why not just release 200 Premium cars at a time? umm...because it took FIVE FREAKIN' YEARS to make 200 Premium cars at that rate it would've taken 25 YEARS to make GT5 with 1000 Premium cars.

Also, I think the 1000 number has a lot to do with celebrating their fast approaching 15th Anniversary. (1997/1998 was when GT1 was released) And from the sound of it, GT5 includes EVERY car from the first four games. (and I wouldn't be surprised to see all the tracks from the previous games appear, as well)

Can you explain to me why Turn 10 created 400 premium cars in 2.5 years? (the time from Forza 2 to Forza 3 release)

Thats 13 cars per month

On the other hand PD has had 5.5 years since GT4 and only 200 premium cars means they only created a puny 3 per month

Lets face it, Japanese are super obssessed perfectionists. Its their greatest asset but also their greatest weakness. They obsess over head lights and get every bolt right but can only pump out 3 premium cars a month.

Turn 10 skips over those minor things and creates 13 "premium" cars per month that look only slightly inferior to PD's creations, mostly in the tiny details department.

This would much more acceptable if we knew from the start that most of the cars were going to be GT4 ports. They led us into thinking 1000 GTP quality cars.

Owell

They didn't create 400 "premium" models. They did the same thing PD did: recycle old models and revamp for a slightly newer graphics engine. The two differences are that 1) FM2 to FM3 is not a HUGE leap in graphics and 2) they modeled the interiors. The way to look at it is this: they didn't model 400 cars per se, but ~360 interiors and 40 models/interiors.

Sure, it sounds like I'm bashing Forza but trust me, I've been playing it since FM2 and as a photographer on it, I can tell a revamp from a new model.. not to mention it was the same argument over on the Forza forums too when we found that information out.

because I wouldn't consider any car in Forza 3 to be "premium" and Forza's more of an acrade style game, and there wasn't much of a difference in programming from the Xbox to the 360 and the 360 uses less polygons and PD is a prefectionist....do you want me to go on?

I've said this before: You CANNOT compare Gran Turismo to Forza. They're two COMPLETELY different games. They have a different feel, different style, different everything. Comparing to two is like comparing Apples to Broccoli.

that explains why they didn't put the new gallardo, and then charge you for the Italia and why they didn't put the gtr and the new zondas
