So, I just recently got a day one copy so no other updates were done. Just to confirm, a 19GB update for 1.11 is a collection of the other updates since the release right?

Yes, that sounds about right.

Oh ok, thought as much. Hate the wait lol thanks

direct ethernet connection and you hopefully wont have to wait too long...thats what i do with all my updates

the updates download faster via cable in PS4 than wi-fi ?

Cable is usually slightly faster connection than wifi

...it all depends how much DL you have in first place, if it is up to 25Mbps download, you won't notice difference between cable and WiFi, if it is above 25Mbps, well, WiFi is basically limited to around 2x 27Mbps in ideal conditions... so you will get higher download speeds over LAN/cable.

Cheers,,,

I've noticed if you put console in rest mode it seems to dl faster also

it downloads when PS4 is lighting orange ?
Mine does. There may be a setting to allow dl while in rest mode. But I don't remember changing any setting

Yes there is a setting, in power options iirc.

As someone who works with wireless in the IT world, this makes me chuckle. In *theory* the PS4 'fat' console, running a single band 802.11n 2.4 GHz wifi card will only ever achieve a max of 35.5Mbps assuming that it is the ONLY thing running across the wireless network and there is ZERO interference. The two above points are incredibly unlikely in a home environment.

The PS4 Pro and PS4 Slim both get upgrades to 802.11ac with 5 GHz frequency capabilities. This is, again in theory, capable of up to 1.3 Gbps throughput assuming no interference and no devices on the network. Also, most home routers won't be able to deliver this. Realistic performance for a 'home hub' running 802.11ac on 5GHz in a clean channel is ~59-63 Mbps.

Actual download speeds are then HUGELY impacted by the latency, which is generally higher on a wireless rather than wired network - but that is a great deal of detail to go in to a 'tune'. The main things that you'd care most about with this is PS remote play - it's almost unusable on a wireless connection.

TL;DR if you're running a PS4 'fat' console, then 100% cabled is better. If you live alone and own a PS4 Pro or Slim then wireless will be more or less the same performance as wired for downloading (as Sony servers limit how fast you can download at well below the max capabilities of a PS4). If there are other devices on the network (tablets, phones or anything else) then cabled will be significantly faster, and more stable for online play, than wireless.

I already see a difference, just like streaming on my android box is faster with ethernet

Yep, I think it has to do with the console not working during a download? Not sure of the technicalities

I always use a direct cable connection for PS4. Teenage kids hogging the wifi watching YouTube :) V1.11 Update on 300meg broadband took longer to copy files and install than download ;)

Btw the download is done guys lol my router was put off by people in the house a couple times but, Ive noticed that PS4 consoles "save" parts of the data from the download and just resume with the other bits when the download resumes? It seems like this is so?

It will prioritize gaming traffic over update downloads. If the console is on you are usually connected to friends lists etc. As a minimum

I'm always asleep when the update downloads, just put the PS4 in rest-mode on the night of the update and your all set!

Usually in GT games the last update compiles all the necessary data from previous updates.
IIRC I never had to do update over update in the past.

Yes, my download has stopped before and when I got it going again it resumed from where it had got to. It didn’t have to start again from the beginning thankfully!
