This year has been very slow for new and interesting licensed products from HW, no Ferraris to be seen for example. But a surprise find hanging on a peg, now to stumble on the Ferrari and Mercedes….

I don't usually buy plastic base Hot Wheels or even regular releases (just trying to safe space) but went on an errand, I saw this and thought it's cute.

This an OEM 1:64 scale of the Xiaomi SU7 Ultra:

The details are spot-on, and the paint seems to hold well. Being a pull-back model is an added bonus.

This particular variant is getting hard to find, though. I paid a bit of a premium for this, compared to the "Max" variants. The Ultra only comes in yellow.

I'm collecting Hot Wheels by proxy through my 3 year old son, as you can see "he" has a thing for Hondas (shame about the NSX) and Japanese cars in general which is an amazing coincidence because so do I:

He's also got an impressive collection of Batmobiles for someone who has never seen anything Batman...

Almost all of these were bought at Aldi, although I had the SA22, grey City Turbo II and Maxima drift car from before he was born. And he does have about 20 or so fictional cars including Optimus Prime, a phone, sushi and a drag racing bus thing. Hot Wheels are great in my opinion, they're only £1.50 each from Aldi and some of them are really good. Some are crap, like the NSX and Texas Toot (that's the monster Kei truck), but they can't all be winners.
