I'm searching for the specs from the actual 1980 TA pace cars used. I've heard there were 5 cars prepared for the race. Does anyone have a link for specs or knowlege of the modifications made?????????

i have a now dead or moved page saved offline with data on the normal pace car editions, but you might lose some of the graphics, so whisper me with a storage address and i can send you it in a zip file or just try emailing it. there is a thing that comes up asking for a program to be installed, that is unless you already have it installed (dunno what it is, haven't paid attention), you can just say no to it, not my doing.

Might just copy the text to here.

1980 Turbo Trans Am Pace Car

"For the first time in 11 years,INDY 500 and NASCAR pick the same official pace car"

The Turbo Trans Am made it's debut in 1980 with an asymetrical hood and specially-designed hood graphics. Notes Pontiac "We wanted to show that form follows function on this car" 5,700 of the turbocharged 301 cubic inch Trans Ams where built, the turbo-Trans Am pace car is basically white with a charcoal accent color extending from the hood through the door upper, the front of the sail panel and the forward half of the roof.

Red and charcoal striping and Indianapolis pace car decals add a sporty touch to the car. Silver tinted removable hatch-roof panels and aluminum white "air-flow" wheels are standard equipment. Along with the 4.9-liter 301 turbocharged V-8, a 3.08 rear axle and limited slip differential are standard. A three-speed automatic was the only transmission available.

Turbo boost is controlled to 9 PSI as the turbocharger comes up to higher speed so the turbo doesn't overboost the engine. Compression ratio on the turbo is 7.5:1--horsepower is 210 at 4,000 rpm -- and torque is 345ft./lbs. at 2,000rpm.
