2.02 Chase Camera Change - Now Dynamic

There is a major glitch with the new chase cam when racing for extended periods of time. The camera will gradually and permanently shift horizontally to the right when looking both forward and backward, and the camera will also occasionally shift and jerk quickly to the left and right when the car is turning. Eventually, this will make GT5 unplayable in the chase cam as a result. This happened to me four hours into the 24 Hours of Nurburgring A-spec.

Hence why some of us have suggested to have an option to disable this camera view to prevent issues from occurring

I always use cockpit view, but this morning I tried the chase cam and it feels great!, I can feel the car movement more acurately.

But like DaihatsuDriver said, maybe you have a motion sickness. There should be an option though to help minimize dizzines with people with motion sickness.

Does yours do the same thing or was I on a rough track...it wasn't dirt...the video a few posts above doesn't seem as bad...

It depends on the track... Some are worse than others... Any ways though its distracting and messed me all up!!

ok, so i actually had a slight hang over this morning when i tried the new update out and thought that the chase cam movement was just my head messing with me lol.

I (kinda) like the new camera, it doesn't make me sick or nauseous or anything, but it just looks a bit odd for a racing game, it reminds me of F-Zero GX's camera, but I think that, in the next update they should keep it, but add the option to switch to the original, and I think if this means they're going to add more ingame cameras, I suggest adding the old chase camera from GT3,

because I personally hate the static camera that was introduced in GT4, its really the reason I didn't play it too much, it just looked weird.

I was worried all day about trying the camera based on what I read here, but once I tried it, wow! I love the dynamic. It makes every race much more interactive.

Sorry if I don't understand but what's so dynamic about the bouncing up and down...it doesn't seem to bounce at all In other cams so why chase so much? It's not Unplayable so much as its sort of annoying...

Some turns, there's a really slight but noticeable jump/skip somewhere. I can't tell if it's the car jumping a couple pixels to the side in relation to the camera or the track itself.

I've noticed this too. The car jumps slightly to the side.

The only way I can describe it is it's like opening one eye and closing the other.

The word dynamic means of or relation to force or energy. I mean that it allows for you to feel the motion of the car over the bumps. I imagine that PD attached an arm to the car that extends out from the center of the car to several feet behind it and several feet above it. It feels as if you are in the car and can feel what the car is going through, while at the same time allowing you to see the car and the track while using a single tv and not having to have an multi-display setup. I used to use the roof cam/ hood cam (depending on the car) to feel what the car is going through, but now I can use the chase came to get the same feeling.

New cam

Old cam

Notice how the new camera shakes a bit more.

I highly prefer the old Chase Cam, i am in a series and im afraid i will do rather ****** with this new Cam, most races are 150KM and my eyes are definatly going to be sore.

@Joe_Ald

Thanks for the response that makes sense...but I guess what is making it wierd is that the new chase cam is alot more bumpy then the hood can...shouldnt that be as bumpy as well?

Doesn't make or break the game for me just wish in all of these updates we could have a more customized camera...

An I'm only a month into playing this fine game.

I agree adding the new chase cam as an additional cam beyond the previous chase cam would have been nice.

The new camera should provide increased bumpiness because of the distance it has from the center of the car. Assuming the roof cam is at the center of the car (roughly), bumps should be minimized compared to a chase cam that is behind the car. The farther you are from the center of the car, the greater the exaggeration of motion should be. If you were on a teeter totter at the center, you would feel no movement, however at the ends you feel enormous movement compared to the center.

I dislike the old chase cam, it really feels loose, hard to tell if the car is starting to oversteer or not. with the new chase cam, you can tell right away.

But many people have motion sickness, including Michael Schumacher I've read somewhere. so having an option would be great for everybody.

Absolutely hate it. I can't finish an arcade race without it freezing. They ruined the game. I might just stop playing if they don't fix it so you can choose on & off.

Watched one vid, just a little bit difference. When i get home, ill test it myself to see the difference.

New cam seems ok for racing on a flat track, good job. However, it is absolutely dreadful for high powered drifting due to the way the back end of the car is see-sawing with the throttle. It's a lot, lot worse on a banked track too, and clipping a kerb mid-drift sends it haywire - the current drift trial on HSR has unfortunately become almost unplayable for me. What a shame. As others have said, a slide bar to toggle the amount of movement would be a nice addition

I just can't get use to this new dynamic chase cam. After just 3 practice race in the Nurburgring Nordschleife (which is quite a bumpy track), I just want to throw up due to the excessive motions on the display, it's like you're on a boat at sea being rock back and forth by the waves. After that, I quit the game and turned off the ps3. I need the old chase cam.

Yep, not only is the new dynamic camera horrible, but this annoying glitch that happens at least 30 times a lap has mad my GT5 unplayable. PD have ruined my game, do I get my money back?

This is how I feel right about now. Its distracting....

I guess I can only really play the game when I have my wheel hooked up now because I use bumper cam with it. It ruined the DS3 playing (which IS the lazy way to play and I like being lazy).

Unfortunately, I doubt PD will read this thread so we are all just wasting our breath on it. We paid for the game and they think we are happy....

I dont think its a horrible idea having this cam but I dont want it! Half of us (probably conservatively) dont like it... they really need to fix this ASAP!

The funny thing is the more I read the glitches that this update has, it will be a wonder if they dont release a patch within the next few weeks (wait, this is PD we are talking about ~ give it 2 months then)

:grumpy:
