My daughter is looking at this car with 120,000 miles on it. It looks in good shape but was wondering if anyone has any bad dealings with this car...its the FWD version not the AWD....Thanx

I have an S3 (same base).

Ask away...

Is it a 1.8T? If it is and it is the 180hp version, get the compression checked.

120000miles is 180000k? So look if the turbo spools up correctely.

Look if all the recalls from Audi have been done (rear wing)

And buy one with ESP, otherwise the rear might overtake the front. And don't disable it.

Other than that they are pretty safe. Servicing needs to be done, Rust is not a question.

Give a bit more info of the car or ask questions...

Yes its the "Base" model...I was looking online and says the water pump was bad about going out. Please keep in mind that I live in the States and there isnt a Audi mechanic close by:tup:

Yeah water pumps are normally replaced with the timing belt, it can be that it has been over the period but not over the milage, so I would get the bîg service done.

A VW mechanic is also doing servicing as the mkIv Rabbit has the same engine and same chassis base.

150hp engine is pretty safe, 180hp if not well maintained or threated can fail (a small percentage but still), 225hp version are safe too.

A good mechanic can work easily on the cars, as the 1.8t are pretty bulletproof and easy to service, so you can safe a bit on that part later. But it should be one with at least a bit of knowledge with VAG models.

Look at the hoses, after that age they can get a bit leaky, depending on the climate they live in. But that's easy to see, check

Also if there is a VAG dealer near by, you can (at least here) give the chassis number (VIN) and check what has been done on the car, see if it had been involved in a crash, well serviced,...

Mine 1.8t never had a problem, I have around 120000miles on it and the first turbo. So if well maintained, they are still going strong

Thinking about it, around the 120000miles it needs the big service anyway so water pump gets changed anyway

I also saw 1.8t easily crack the 200000miles marker without problems.

Other than that, it's the normal things to check out at 120000 miles, suspensions, bushings,...

It does have the Turbo. Thanx for the tips....Im going to TRY to be there and look at it this weekend but we will see

No problem, if questions ask.
You can buy the SSP(selfstudy program) 207 for the Audi TT for a few bucks (google it ;), do it you might find it very cheap) It gives you a good overlook over safty features and the like

Ok..after doing some searching we found a 2001 TT Quatro for about the same price...225hp...with 111k on it..What is this "big service" your talking about??...Will it shut down if not preformed??

Well the timing belt gets changed and the water pump and the little stuff like oil (engine, haldex (AWD)).

I will take a look later at my service booklet and get back at you.

there can be always some problem, look at the rear spoiler for rust bubbles if it's one that was put on later, the display in the dash can have dead pixels, is easily fixable, the rear can make noises, is also easy fixable.

The 225hp is the better choice, and it's awd and servicing doesn't cost a whole lot more, and your daughter will have a way safer car in rain or snow 👍
