No, it's just these people coming up in here saying... "Oh the Corvette is fast, but no impressive in comparison to the Porsche racecar." and... "Oh, anything the Corvette beats is a luxury car not meant for Nurburgring performance, that or its out dated." and when they finally see defeat, they say something like... "Well of course it would beat a DB7 (which isn't even the model I used for comparison)! The Corvette is a billion years more advanced!"

Comments like those really get to me. If people would just give the Vette the props it deserves and stop being so cynical, I wouldn't be so aggressive.

Get you're head out of you're arse for one second, please. No ones saying the Vette can't handle. No ones being hostile towards it, get a damn grip and stop showing hostility back.
What the hell? I'm not the one coming into a commemorative Corvette thread trying to prove that the Corvette isn't anything special! I'm just defending my all time favorite car. Perhaps people need to stop being so damn cynical and give the Corvette some damn respect.

live4speed
The bottom line is a DB7 is a luxury grand tourer, it has 435Bhp, which is not 100 more than the C6. It's based on a 10 year old chassis and it weighs a hell of a lot more. It's not a comparison to be taken seriousely.
Yes it is. Thats a perfectly good comparison because at any other given time, people would underestimate the Corvette. The Aston Martin still has advanced performance. The DB7 GT is not a Mustang now...

live4speed
The Ferrari 360, maybe, but you really should be comparing it to whats out NOW, like the F430, then maybe thats a Z06 car since it's upped the ante a bit in power and speed ect. But stop getting a hard on cos it beat a Diablo GT, Ferrari 575 and an Aston Martin DB7. It's a fast car, you don't need to prove that.
I don't get hard-on's over Corvettes beating the GT, 360, SV, or anyother car. I was simply showing that the Corvette made its mark before the 2006 Z06.

And if there are current N-gring times, made in 2005, I'll be happy to do more comparisons. But so far, I've only seen the Z06 for 2005.

The C6 isn't more advanced than a DB9, it beat the DB9 on the TopGear track by 0,3 seconds, the DB9 has 450Bhp and 263bhp per ton, the C6 has 400Bhp and 275Bhp per ton so don't go knocking a luxury grand tourer for not being as fast. If you want to compare it fairly compare it to a TVR Tuscan 2 or something thats also a sportscar with similar power. Comparing it to cars that are known for not handilng well sn't going to get people agreeing with you left right and center, or saying were bull ****ting for saying the DB7 is a luxury car, wtf is it then, do you think it weight under 1.5 tonnes, really, do you think it's a sportscar.

I'd certainly like to compare it to a Tuscan, it'd be a good battle. The Tuscan is very light and has abundant power. The Corvette is less light, but packs more tire under its fenders and has a wider track, and equally abundant power.

For fun, I'd like to throw a Viper SRT-10 Coupe (the upcoming coupe, not the Competition model), Marcos TSO-GT, the BMW M6, the Porsche 911GT2 (when they're done with the new one), and the upcoming Stradale version of the F430.

I'd think that either Hans Joachim Stuck, Justin Law, or Boris Said would be perfect for laying down the laptimes, and Mid-Ohio (with the Keyhole) would be the perfect mix of hyper-technical twisties and long straights to determine car quality.

Cars of the past?
The 360 Modena which is the oldest car in my comparison, and it still is a viable competitor, being only 6 years younger than the 2004 Z06. Big deal! 6 years is nothing. But hey, lets don't forget the Corvette's "ancient" leaf-spring suspension...

And you're mistaken about the Aston Martin DB7 GT. I guess you missed the GT part. It has gone back under the knife for more performance based parts. A good power increase, short shifter, and twin-plate cluctch among those performance based parts. Both SL55 and DB7 GT have advanced performance, along with luxury. Fact is, the Vette can still take them, even with a 100hp disadvantage.

Are you going to use the same luxury excuse for the Viper SRT-10? GTS? 575 F1? GT? SV? 360 Modena? Carrera S?

Once again I have just proven that nobody can just give the Vette credit. There are no excuses McLaren. There are no reasonable excuses.
I was talking about the Diablo GT ass.
I didn't have anything to comment on them, so I didn't say anything.
Get your head out of the Corvette exhaust pipe, and listen to what people are saying.

The 360 Modena is not the latest. It was released 2000. Over a year after the Diablo GT and SV left the market.

The Z06 of the new century came in '01-'02. A year where the 550 was leaving and when the 575M was entering. And to compare it to a 550 and 575 is just stupid. You're comparing the old and new one to the newer car.

Why are you even comparing a 360 Modena? So you can forget the Challenge Stradale pretty much knocked out '02 Z06?
And as the '02 Z06 entered, the GTS was leaving.

I'm only glad you're not actually comparing the '06 Z06 to these cars who have left the market...Or are you? It still stupid, either model of the Z06, C5 and C6.
The only cars around the same time of the '02 Z06 were the 575 Maranello, SRT-10, Carrera but even though everyone knows a Carrera S isn't the top of the line, but is that also why you choose it to compare to a '02 Z06 instead of a Turbo or GT3?

Please, you are comparing the older Z06 to cars that weren't even top of the line.
I think you damn well knew, the Z06 would eat those cars up, (Carrera S, 360 Modena), but didn't want to compare it a much more challenging car such as the big GT2, or Challenge Stradale.

And I have given the credit to the Vette. Twice actually. QUIT reading what you want to read.

The new Viper coupe, I believe, has the same engine as the convertible. Though, I do believe they've updated the brakes (100-0 in less than 100 feet) and some other systems, so it ought to be interesting in any case.

Exactly!!!!
The '06 Z06 is the 1st one out of the ring for the new market of cars. What people are forgetting are that BMW is still working on the M6, Ferrari's testing a new CS, and Porsche is also busy with a new GT.

These are what '06 Z06 needs to be compared to. Not cars of the past that had their time, and are now off the market.

The Coupe will be lighter, so even though same engine, it seems the Coupe will have a faster acceleration.

Unfornately, since some people forget a coupe is lighter, they think the Viper Coupe will run the same as the Convertible. na an. The Coupe can be faster since it doesn't have the weight the Conv. as.

They're off the market, but since they're already on the roads they're also what the Z06 is likely to encounter more often...at least, for the first year or two. Later on, of course, it'll have to deal with those new cars (and even if it stumbles a little against them, there's always the Blue Devil).

If I may be allowed a bit of fanboyism...I sure as hell hope so. 👍 And hell, if it isn't, it might not matter overmuch. There's supposedly a new Viper ACR in the works.

Yes, but to compare new to old is silly.

How about I compare PS3 to Sega Dreamcast? A little over 6 years apart, but that's the same with the cars he compared.

The ACR is another one if its true.
The real cars to compare to the new Z06 are not out yet.
AKA, M6, GT3, CS, Viper Coupe, not to mention the big hp upgrades on the Gallardo.

I don't know if I can agree with that statement in EVERY instance. There are cars from thirty years ago with similar performance to modern cars in terms of speed, acceleration, and occasionally even handling. They're few, yes, but they do exist.

EDIT: Also, if this supposed new ACR is anything like the old ones, I'd say that it'd be smarter to match it against the Blue Devil.

GTP needs a flame thread icon. :)

Why are you so adamant about defending the Corvette? It's a car. People see things differently and will be naturaly biased for/against certain things. There's no point for you to keep defending the car as it will not change how others want to see it.

Wow the new Z06 is fast! Fan-****ing-tastic. Go get yourself a cookie!

Well, the Corvette has taken particularly heavy flak for being "less refined" than other sports cars. Fao's not kidding about the 'Vette being underrated; most American cars are commonly ragged on, but it's historically been among the least respected. You're probably right; there's always going to be some schmucks out there in every country in the world who will still cling to the belief that the Corvette only belongs on a drag strip. But, again, the celebration is for the fact that there's finally real proof that it can handle a technical course as well as Europe's finest.

Because they're both sportscars. And I can admitt that teh Stradale is quick. I'm not going to say, "durr.... durr... The Corvette is a $45,000 sportscar, why wouldn't the Stradale beat it? Durr... durr..." Why compare the Z06 against a top brand name sportscar that it can't win against? How does comparing a Z06 and Stradale benefit my point? Do you know what my point is? Have you forgetten it already? Well... Thats okay. I'm not suprised.

Inflammatory flame bait... This has nothing to do with anything.

Why would I? Again, how would comparing a C5 Z06 to an Enzo benefit my original point? So again, this statement is just more spam garabage.

McLaren F1GTR
And I have given the credit to the Vette. Twice actually. QUIT reading what you want to read.
Actually, you're credit falls under the... "durrr... The Corvette is a fast car but unimpressive in comparison to a Porsche racecar."

Guys, we have to tone this the hell down. I don't want this thread closed. 👎

See how it is guys? I post up a few bonified sportscars (every model I listed that the 2004 C5 Corvette Z06 and the 2005 C6 Corvette had beaten at Nurburgring were classified as sportscars or luxury sportscars) that the 2004 Z06 and base model 2005 C6 had beaten, and here comes a borage of flames and excuses... They only way to win this debate is to compare the Z06 to an Enzo and say that is isn't impressive. Its ridiculous.

You didn't have 1 freaking clue to what GT I was talking about.
FAOLIUS05
And you're mistaken about the Aston Martin DB7 GT
You thought I was talking about the DB7 GT.

Actually it does. The 575M was a much more performance Maranello. It would have been best to just compare it to a 575M, not a 550 too.

Inflammatory flame bait... This has nothing to do with anything.
Actually it does as well.

You know a Carrera S isn't anywhere near a '02 Z06. You know a 911 Turbo would be the better car yet you chose a Carrera to "prove" your point.

And I never commented on the 911 GT3 RS.

Quit being an obnoxious little Corvette fanboy. I gave the Vette credit. I never commented on the time of the 911 GT3 RS.
Once again, you read what you want to read instead of reading a whole post. 👎

No people started debating b/c you thought it was the best d*mn thing on Earth.

GENTLEMEN!!!!!!

Fao, I'm on your side, but if this thread gets closed, how are you going to be able to make your points? We have to stop the flaming and start discussing in a civil manner.

No people started debating b/c you thought it was the best d*mn thing on Earth.
Prove it. Quote me on that and prove it.

faoulish

if you give people a set of numbers, the C6 Z06s hard numbers, and those of the GT3, and then tell them the 'ring times, i can bet you more people will be impressed by the times of the GT3 than the vette.
to do so much with (relatively speaking) so little is far more impressive than the vettes feat at the ring. PERIOD. its not open to discussion, its not open to negotiation, its the way it is. get used to it.

you can come here and fanboy the vette all you want to, but those of us who have more than a braincell can compare numbers for ourselves, and we are more impressed by the porsche. if you dont like it, take your ****ty attitude back to bowling green and tell the engineers to get the blue devil out on th ring.

as far as we are concerned, yeah the vette posted a fast time, but the GT3 posted a far more impressive time.
jackhole

THIS IS NOT THE WAY TO DO THIS, DAMN IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

We've already been warned, so why the hell is everybody continuing to flame each other? Knock it OFF, for the love of Pete! :ouch:

FAOLIU05
Prove it. Quote me on that and prove it.
Quote you?

You shot down everyone who said it wasn't impressive. Someone said it wasn't impressive because it only beat by .01 which isn't and there's no need to quote you on that. There's enough posts on it through the 1st few pages.

It is impressive that the Corvette achieved a time like that.
What isn't impressive is that it beat the Porsche by .01.

Impressive time, but not an impressive victory over Porsche.

It beat the Porsche by .10 and not .01, but I still believe those two sentences have been repeatedly blended together in this thread. However, I still believe that there is more than enough in all this for Corvette fans to be proud of.

McLaren F1GTR
You didn't have 1 freaking clue to what GT I was talking about.

You thought I was talking about the DB7 GT.
You're right, I have no idea what the hell you're talking about.

McLaren F1GTR
Actually it does. The 575M was a much more performance Maranello. It would have been best to just compare it to a 575M, not a 550 too.
Either way the Z06 beat the 575M and 550, and I can and will use both models as examples. The Corvette beat them both. But you blamed it on the fact that both models are off the market. Yeah well... I'm sure thats why the Vette beat them.

McLaren F1GTR
You know a Carrera S isn't anywhere near a '02 Z06. You know a 911 Turbo would be the better car yet you chose a Carrera to "prove" your point.
Again... Doesn't matter. The 2004 C5 Z06 beat both the Carrera and Carrera S. I'll use them as examples as well to further prove my point.

McLaren F1GTR

I'm not being obnoxious. I'm not even being difficult.
I posted up a few sportscars that should be up or beyond the Z06's level, that the Z06 beat at Nurburgring. You're the one who insists on arguing more and more. I'm just stating the facts and what has been proven already. You're the one coming up with all these stupid reasons as to why the Z06 wins, thus supporting my statement about you not actually giving the Z06 credit without question, which means I've catagorized you in the, "durr.... The Corvette is fast, but not impressive in comparison to the Porsche racecar" category. It wasn't a direct quote.

Can we summarize this, please:

The Corvette's time was excellent. Not just for a Corvette, but excellent PERIOD. The margin of victory was startlingly small, and Porsche fans also have plenty to be happy about, but the Corvette still proved itself out there that day.

FAOLIU05
Again... Doesn't matter. The 2004 C5 Z06 beat both the Carrera and Carrera S. I'll use them as examples as well to further prove my point.
Because the f'ing Vette easily outmatched both cars. What the hell kind of comparison is that?

You like to compare old to new which is downright stupid.

There's a line between comparing and outmatching, and you certainly love to cross the line.

I did give credit to the Vette.

I said it was impressive for a Vette. But not an impressive victory over the Porsche.

That's fast for a Vette, yes, but to say it beat the 911 GT3 RS completely is stupid. By .10 seconds. But you can't accept that.

You want people to say its impressive time and victory, because you are a single minded Corvette fanboy.

That new Vette beating that time ain't that suprising, i dont even care about .1 sec margin.

I still believe it's this "for a 'Vette" thing that's causing so much trouble. With respect, McLaren, it is making you sound like you don't really believe that the Corvette is an able car.

Perhaps this will help things: McLaren, do you believe that turning in a 7'42'9xx on the 'Ring is a respectable accomplishment for ANY car, regardless of its make and model?
