Yes and I don't understand why Button starts second tomorrow!!???? Why can't they take the fastest lap during the entire hour of qualifying??? Why the fastest lap set during the last 20 min counts for pole???

Because thats when they run on "race" fuel. Other sessions are run on "bugger all" fuel.

Will be an interesting race!

Anyone starting 11th or 12th in this race sure got a bonus. Saving a set of tyres for the race and being able to fill up on fuel as well as not having to run the engine in the final 20 minutes. :)

The two McLarens and Alonso's Renault look to be on heavy fuel loads. Bummer about Schuey dropping back to 14th. The two Williams chassis may be on lighter fuel loads.

This looks like a very good race.

I HATE the Speed channel! They ALWAYS list ****ing wrong information on their stupidass schedules and stuff. They pulled the afternoon rerun of qualifying after I've been waiting ALL MORNING to see it.

I hate this crap. I always get my time wasted. I'm gonna have to tape the race or something.

/rant over.

Also, Giles-guthrie's Fantasy F1 is messed up. I didn't know you could only sub one time, and now I'm totally ****ed. This sucks.

/rant again.

This will be hard to watch, but I'll try my best. Twelve hours and fourty minutes to the start...

I'm gonna tell you something pretty unvelievable, but Alonso said that their engineers messed up at pits and he started the 3rd session with TWICE fuel as he needed for quali. So his race will be screwed up, since he has enough fuel to run 2/3 of the race, and he will be SOOOO slow on the first laps...

This race was my first to watch the qualifying session, as it was on live at a decent hour. It is definitely different and makes qualifying have much more action. The times being set can be very misleading.

liam2maps made a good point above, do any of you guys think this is the reason schumee might have replaced his engine? i don't think it is but it could have played into the situation, i mean they already saw what running on less feul produced last week and then they found out that the engine was a little faulty?. maybee, or i'm jusst speculating and reading inbetween the lines too much

You would never try to qualify 11th if you were capable of 10th, though.

If you want to save the engine and tyres, run the best time you can in the 2nd session, get into the final session, and just don’t run. At least you’ve got 10th, rather than 11th or 12th.

The only disadvantage this gives you is that you have to decide your fuel strategy on the spot, rather than being able to figure it out later. Though, if you haven’t got a clue about your strategy at that point in the weekend, something is wrong.

I don't see why you would never not try to qualify on pole. Given that a good start can be achieved from pole, one should not have to deal with any where near the traffic a lower placed qualifer would.

The top ten qualifers are going to have a pit strategy set when they qualify, the lower qualifying cars are going to be no different, except that they don't have to qualify on race fuel load. Starting higher on grid is a much bigger bonus that starting lower on the grid.

Having to run the engine for an additional 20 minutes should not matter. The engine should have been engineered to be able to last for the required number of races and that includes qualifying for however long it lasts. Otherwise, the engineers are doing a poor job of doing what is required by the engineer job title.

This race start is alright. I'm already awake at this hour anyways, so its a good one. 05:00 on the other hand, just plain stinks. I am never awake then. I'm ready for the start here in just a few.

Kimi got wasted by Montoya! Hahahahahahah!

Nope, scratch that. Kimi got bumped, according to what he said, but they didn't show exactly who did it yet. Klein cam in busted up, so I think he had something to do with it.

What a start for my man, ALONSO!

Actually I don't think he did. I think Klien or Luizzi punted him . . . or both. It looked someone hit him once and then it looked like he got hit again.

Alonso had a great start.

Dangit! I missed Nico's engine going KABLAMO! I guess thats what I get for getting some grubbage.

I like the commentary from the person Peter Windsor is talking to.

Omnis
NOOOOO!!!!!! Nico's engine exploded!
It was purty, too! Never seen a F1 engine blow that well before! Did you see those metal bits fly out on the right bank of the engine just before the smoke! :O Awesome! 👍

I think we're going to see more fireworks later!

I didn't see any of it . . . 👎. I was too busy getting some food.

Both Williams are out of the race. That was an interesting failure. Webber's car had a variety of things going on. Shrapnel everywhere out of the back.

****.

There goes Mr. Webber. Both Williams are out. God damn hot bahrain and malaysian sun. I think going from dry to moist like that did something with the engine. At least cosworth will probably be able to inspect webber's 8.

How bout Taku and that aguri? He gained like 4 or 6 places, man.

Haven't even paying attention to Super Aguri. Any finish greater than the last two places is very good.

Hopefully Cosworth will be able to figure something out from Webber's engine.

and so, what promised to be a nice race becomes another Renault domination, followed by Ferrari and with the BAR underdog staying precisely, under.

WTF is up with Ide? Lap times are around 1.35 and he's pulling 1.44s

EDIT: Is it raining? Will it keep raining? Hopefully we'll see some rain and some change.

Yeah, but the engine didn't blow well, this time

OH NO! Rain!

Alonso's one stop strategy is fubared!

I saw that thick rain cloud at the start. Didn't think it was headed for them. Damn.

Rain would be great! There needs to be rain.

Ide's problem is that he is slow and in a slow car, which makes a slow combination.

Lmao. Look at montoya's left mirror. I was like, "wtf is with the flapping?"

and then, hobbs and everyone started to talk about it.

What's up with Alonso? He's on a TWO stop strategy. Too hot to do just one, I guess. Needs some water, or what not.

During his stop, he didn't get enough fuel to finish.

Spanish TV has Pedro de la Rosa as commentator, and he says the mirror vibrating is very uncommon and that it's possible we'll see Montoya missing that mirror in the next few laps.
