I’m not confident that both BMW cars will finish. :p

Well predicted.

I'm really impressed with Nico Rosberg yet again. He's doing damn well.

coulthard just got pwnt by wurz... it must be damn hard to tell when you are being attacked.

Wow, great race by Hamilton! First F1 race and he places in the podium.

As advertised, my naked rain dance worked. I just manged to make it rain here as opposed to Melbourne. Honda, get those upgrade quick-smart unless you want to be the last man home for the rest of the season.

Hamilton...... First race....... Podium........ Wow.

Indeed.
I've watched him in GP2 and he was always very consistent there, but nonetheless I'm very impressed with his performance here. He got a great start, demonstrating good racecraft and resourcefulness, and kept up a very competitive pace for the full duration of the race.

Considering the two men he finished behind, and comparing his debut to that of other rookies, like...say...Kovaleinen, it was pretty much a storybook race for him.

Well done Lewis. 👍

Great first race. Alonso did very well, and Hamilton did unbelievable for his first F1 race. Can we look forward to a McLaren slash Ferrari battle all season long? I hope so. I hope they make it fun and exciting.

Fisi did as well as I expected. Not bad. But, I still really cannot cheer for him. I do hope we see more from him, thouhg, in a good light.

I'm glad that BMW seems to be fastest behind Ferrari and Mclearn like it was all winter , shame that Kubica had to go out . Hamilton is great.

Did you hear Albers excuse? :dunce:

"Busy with the ear piece, and forgot there was a turn coming up."
Unbelievable huh? Shall we start placing bets what team he is on next year? ;)

Great race though, and Hamilton was really impressive!

Still, it was a bit of a let down after just watching the incredibly exciting finish between Melo in the Risi Competizione Ferrari F430GT & Bergmeister in the FLM Porsche 997 GT3-RSR for the GT2 class victory at Sebring just before the start of the Australian GP.

"Rubin' is Racin'!" ;)

If I can equate it to music, seeing as we are just wrapping up SXSW, its like when the opening act is too good, making the feature act seem less appealing by comparison. Don't get me wrong, F1 is still top dog in my book, but wow... that was one of the best American Le Mans Series race in some time!

Best finish I've seen probably ever (I'm young), especially considering this was a 12 hour enduro, not a one hour sprint. Melo's move was a bit dirty, but that's racing. Juan Pablo Montoya would certainly approve ;-). Oh yeah, back to the F1 race: pretty boring if you don't count the Coulthard/Wurz incident. Hamilton's pass in the beginning showed off his guts and instinct. The kid just knows how to race. Other than that, there was surprisingly little drama for an F1 opener.

who said that?

Hobbs. He meant it as a compliment. To show the diversity of F1 racing and the winners on the podium. Kimi, as white as they get, Fernando as a tan Spaniard and Hamilton as the first "black" man on the podium. He's screwed, though.

who said that?

OMG it's like 5 pages long in the SPEEDTV.com message boards

I believe it was either Dave or Steve who said it.lol
I don't think he meant any harm but simply just came out waaaaaaaaaaay wrong lol. He's going to get a little heat for that I bet.:scared:

I'm sure he didnt mean it to be racist or anything, just to show diversity of F1, a black skin guy and Kimi a very white skin guy. Too bad it came out the wrong way. Oh well.

Anyway, the race was a tad boring. I just liked watching the onboard stuff and the radio and all that. Even though there wasn't much action, F1 to me still feels the most interesting motorsport since I know every single driver and their history and such. I cannot say the same about MotoGP or other motorsport.

That being said, I do find that some MotoGP races as well as GP2 and FIA GT are much more exciting in terms of action. Anyone remember that Estoril race from MotoGP last year? Now that was exciting..

I'm also really really glad to see Kimi win. Maybe a bit more action in the next races (hopefully). I would like to see some action between Kimi & Fernando, trying to hold each other off, something along those lines. 👍

Those church bells in Maranello must have been ringing off the hook today.:) Congrats to the Kimster!!

I really wish that Speed could have done better. I'd like to cheer for someone from my home country. Oh well....thats racing.

Good luck to Ferrari in upcoming events.:)

Albers is done. I think we won't see him next year.
Next year? He'll be lucky to make it through this year. Albers is the least-talented driver in the field, and seems like a rotten team player. His hissy fits are amusing, however.
David Hobbs
That's the darkest face I ever seen on the podium.
Very awkward. One of those "I know what you're trying to say, but why did you say it in the first place?" comments. I hope it doesn't get blown out of proportion. Wait, this is America, so.....

Great race for the McLaren boys. Hamilton stayed cool, and Alonso pulled off a very Schumacher-esque "how the hell did he do that?" moment while miraculously picking up 7 or 8 seconds on the second pit-stop exchange. Hamilton may have been faster during most of the race, and during other parts of the weekend, but he was shown why Alonso has 2 titles. Good race for Kimi as well. I laughed out loud when he said, "I was looking at something else", while referring to his trackside lawn-maintenance late in the race. Honesty is the best policy (ahem, Mr. Albers). On a side-note Wurz is lucky that DC's rear tire didn't brush his helmet; that could have been awful.

Three weeks :grumpy:.

I missed everything after the first 4 laps. It's amazing that Lewis Hamilton made the podium, and did Webber even finish?

:dopey: I just had to make this. lol I'm also mixed so I can so.

So now will all the Button fanboys jump ship and onto the Hamilton bandwagon?

I guess at least the new bandwagon won't be as pathetic as Button...

Nice race.
But the commentary this year is going to drive me insane if it keeps goin the way it did today. Yes, Hamilton did awesome things today, but by god there are 21 other drivers out there! I swear I spent half that race listening to how Hamilton was doing. I realise the commentary is directed towards Britain but bloody hell you couldn't be much more biased if you tried.
James Allen: First man on TV to have a non-sexual orgasm when Hamilton actually wins a race.

Also, I loved Speed's response when Louise whatsherface asked if it was a technical failure or driver error.
"When you pull off the track and park after your right front tyre explodes, I'm pretty sure it's a technical issue..."

If you're asking if Hamilton will be getting the lion's share of the British support, then you'd be right.

And why not?

In the same way as Slidesquad just mentioned. We get the ITV commentators here for most races too, and every bloody minute of the race they talked about Button the whole time, it just gives you the ****s because he's an overrated, mediocre driver who has pretty much never, ever, looked like winning a race never mind a championship.

I'm just saying now, at least they can talk about someone who actually looks the goods. He did a fantastic race today and I could see him winning a race or two this year, as long as the Ferrari's aren't as almighty as they are seeming.

Can’t wait for the race. Predictions:
1. Kimi Räikkönen
2. Fernando Alonso
3. Lewis Hamilton
4. Nick Heidfeld
5. Felipe Massa
6. Giancarlo Fisichella
7. Mark Webber
8. Ralf Schumacher

Please tell me the lottery numbers for the next week!

Oh he of little faith!

Nope, we're staying with Camp JB. Sure, Hamilton is good ... but I'm sure all you Nico Rosberg fans stuck with him through Williams' efforts last year. And all the Michael Schumacher fans stuck with him in 2005 when Ferrari forgot to develop a car. So this JB fan is staying put.

At least we got Murray Walker this time.

If you get commentary from Japan, they'll probably focus on Sato, if you got it from America, it'll probably focus on Speed. If that didn't happen, there would just be one commentary team per language.
I think it's unfair to call Button a mediocre driver. He showed in Hungary his talent can match the best at times, however, he's never had the machinery. Now, I'm by no means saying he'd be a god with the right car, but I certainly think he'd be capable of a win or two a season.

Anyway, I shouldn't really be in this thread. I haven't even seen the race yet!

Yes, and when the Australian commentators are on they often talk of Mark Webber.

Wow, best opening race prediction ever? Imagine what I could have got at the bookies for predicting the top 4…

Was a really great race.

Kimi was clinical. Just awesome.

Hamilton was pretty awesome. Alonso didn’t look quite as mighty with competition, but he still showed he was boss, beating Hamilton quite comfortably in the end. I can’t wait for Hamilton to get more comfortable in F1, though. He will do great things.

BMW were impressive, as expected. Interesting strategy from Nick, going Soft–Medium–Medium.

Renault were unimpressive. Fisi didn’t look so bad against Heikki. Which says something about Heikki’s first race. He needs to do better.

Honda was dismal. Button, too. He got smashed by Rubens.

Williams were impressive – beating Toyota. Although I have to say Toyota did better than I was expecting during pre-season testing.

RBR were meh. DC was stupid, but at least owned up to it being his fault.

I was really impressed with Albers. Retiring because he forgot to brake for a corner. That is true talent, right there. Kimi was so impressed that he tried to imitate him later in the race, but he wasn’t good enough, and failed to retire.

Damn.

Good race. No safety cars, pure racing. Awesome pace from Ferrari. And for once I was right: it’s going to be a very good year for Kimi fans. :D

Crap, I went out to party and totally forgot about the race! Anyone got a link to some highlight videos?

Cheers.
