Team Varsha just confirmed it again...rainage imminent.

I wonder if they'll try starting on more heavily treaded shoes this time, like the Amazing Flying Winkelhock?

Now what the hell was that Hamilton thing? The guy drives off the track together with four other drivers but still he's the only one to be picked out after a few minutes and the others are left there? Nürburgring = Germany = Mercedes = any means used. Thanks a damn big lot. :grumpy:

Yeah, strange...i know that Hamilton didn't do any damage to his car, so he could continue but still it's unfair, if he really was the only one who got pulled out. I didn't see any other cars getting back on track.

Now what the hell was that Hamilton thing?

He may have been the only driver that kept his engine running. From the aerial view Button was already jumping out of his car by the time Hamilton slid into the gravel. The marshalls are technically allowed to pull somebody out of the gravel and back onto the track, even with a crane, if the engine is running I believe.

Now thats what i called "chaos".Winkelhock should be laughing in his helmet when he was leading  and i think Hamilton was lucky to get out of the sandtrap.Should be an interesting start, and have to do that all over again when it start to rain again.......typical Nurburgring...I'll comment later when the race is finished :D

Half the track's dry, and then there are rivers on the rest of it.

This is not gonna end well...especially if we get another Noah's Ark deal soon...

I am angry that Raikkonen droped back to seventh..oh we will see what the rest of the race will bring...another rain is predicted 👍

He may have been the only driver that kept his engine running.
Ow. Good point.

And what is this? Car 2 will overtake all the cars and safety car? I guess it's because he was lap down from rest of the cars.

What a mess. I'm really rooting for M.WH, 'cause choosing to start from the pits was genous.

Also, did you notice that Ron Dennis was at the back of the grid, surveying Hamiltons car, not giving a crap about Alonso. The spainiard might have some truth in his stories about how Ron Dennis is biased toward Hammy.

Probably because he'd had 2 incidents in 2 laps and Ron was worried about him flying off into a barrier againl, while Alonso seems to have driven like a true world champ, and kept himself out of trouble.

It is an interesting point, but unless Ron has a complete mastery of quantum physics, he could only stand by one of the cars at a time.

Still, there's no smoke without fire, so I'm sure that Alonso's misgivings have some grounding.

Hamilton goes to dry tyres?? What are they smoking?!?

Hamilton regains a lap, and apparently is blowing the doors off everyone now that the track is less moisturized...

...you don't think he could...naaah...

naah. I don't thin khe can. His original start was astounding, but since then he's been a passenger while his lucky star's been taking backhanders from cruel fate. He's done well to still be in the race at all.

If I am not mistaken, he had less fuel because he ended qualifying bit earlier than rest of the group ;), as the rules says that you get some extra fuel for time within 107% ?

He certainly looked like he had 40bhp more than everyone else (or less weight).

Sounds like they're worried about damage on the back of Hamilton's car.

Hahaha! Did anyone else hear that radio call? "This rubber's in good condition mate, let's use it." Was that a radio call to the driver, or did someone sneak into a back room and leave their mike on by mistake?

Congratulations Alonso! Too bad Massa didn't resist the attack, and what a pity for Raikkonen. The day would look a lot better if he finished.

And congratulations to Red Bull as well! Nice race for both of them..Webber 3rd and Coulth 5th.

Edit: Ow, what's that..what Massa said to Alonso in there? I don't understand the language, but he looks angry in my eyes

I thought Massa did everything he could to stop Alonso.

Any chance of Alonso losing these points because of his pit exit in front of the Renault, and Honda's subsequint complaint?

Massa DID everything to stop Alonso. If he didn't, they wouldn't have touched like that.

And basically, they both were arguing in italian, repeating "It's your fault" again and again. In any case... Geez, Ron Dennis doesn't precisely look towards his first driver, eh? He's been with Hamilton during those twenty minutes of red flag, and now he's barely congratulated Alonso for his victory (Nothing compared with the way he cheers Hamilton up, in any case). There must be smoke and fire.

PS: Alonso is apologizing to Massa for getting so nervous after the race XD

lol what a strange race. RED FLAG RED FLAG!!
Winkelhock got SCREWED!
He was on wets already and hand 30+ seconds in hand and everyone else needed to pit! He could have easily been over a minute infront if the FIA didn't throw the red flag when the stars hit the kitty litter! I hope that Marcus is happy with at least getting to lead a couple of laps, but he needs to know that we recognize the FIA took something from him today. Everyone else could have done the same tire change, but chose to let their bravado when out. Piss poor FIA, piss poor!

Well they took too long red-flagging that race, but it was still highly enjoyable. I do feel for Winkelhock, I'd have at least like to have seen the guy finish.

Some good overtaking, and Webber was lucky to get away with whatever happened in the final chicane. At least that "bad thing" that everyone said should happen to Hamilton, has happened, let's see how he handles recovering from a set back. That said he put in a good shift, and if not for inexperience, would've surely been in a podium position.

Anyone else get massive pleasure out of seeing Schumi reluctantly hand the constructors title to Ron Dennis? =D, haha the look on his face...priceless

Is it me, or is that the best damn F1 race I have seen for quite a while, superb, alonso, hamilton, mass, webber, wurz, kovelinen all looked extremly impressive for one reason or another, for me it was a shame about the new DTM driver, it would nice to see him make an great debut, and he did, 4laps in the lead (saftycar laps) but he did have a 34second lead at one point.

Brilliant, just brilliant.

That was entertainment right there folks! I was so happy to see Kimi pull up once again, better luck next year, sunshine! :sly: Alonso vs Massa was awesome, Alonso's move was as good as the move on Schumacher on the outside of 130R.

My heart was stopping when I saw Webber take the final chicane real slow, i feared a mechanical failure once again but phew, he brought it home good and proper! Kovalinen drove a nice race too, should have been higher but that gamble kinda paid off in the end.

As for Lewis, he probably pulled off the best move of the race just by keeping the engine running whilst waiting to be moved, I wonder if the Toro Rosso's might take that into consideration next time. I felt sorry for Button, he could have been on for a good race if he didn't go off.

Great race though, next up Hungary, if we get more rain.. God knows who will take it!

That was,i got to say, that was the Best Race I've Ever Seen Before!!!!This could go down in history.Great race by Alonso.Got to give him credit 110%.The rain was in favor of Alonso. The battle was great but too bad Massa didn't retaliate.Otherwise it could be like the battle between "Gilles VIlleneuve and Rene Arnoux".Another battle to remember.

Lewis must been exhausted after that race.He got up to fourth, landed in the gravel, lucky to got out with the help of the marshalls, got one lap down and have to go around to get back of the line, only to go back one lap down and got up to 10th,when the rain came down and 9th and narrowly got 8th from Kovaklainnen. It suck to be him.His podium run comes to an end in this race.

Its a race to remember for everyone, with surprises and great battles everywhere.I hope Nurburgring could host another race next year.Other races could not be as exciting or as historic as Nurburgring.

as for other, for once again in how many races,Toro Rosso failed to finish a race.Bad luck for Winkelhock as he was living his dream at that moment but much better than Albers.Ralf should get fired after that accident,it was his fault at that time.Honda were struggling with the weather and Renault has problems with their setup or something and it was a bad call for them to put Intermediates on Kovalainnen's car.

yeah i agree that was an entertaining race, i didnt expect alonso to win today...the funniest thing was seeing how bored michael was at the pit wall, at least they could've given him a chair? he just stood there for 2 hours!

I only saw the last 7 laps , as I just came from work ... somebody translate what happened between Massa and Alonso

Brief Summary
Drivers I thought had good race, despite result.

It was interesting Lewis's overtaking for the first time he has really had to put it to the test, I think less will doubt his ability at overtaking in future, From tenth he found himself 4th place after the first two corners although as he made did it he got a puncture, thanks to Kubica, or Heidfeld rather. this threw way back but he returned back into the action next lap only to find himself in a 5 car pile up in the gravel at just one lap later, still he was the only one of them to keep the engine ticking over and therefore got pulled out and put back onto the track, still this meant he was a lap down and as the safety car came out, In the end his race was ruined by the decision to go onto slicks before the track was fully dry and he lost lost of time. HE did however catch and cut through the field despite being so far behind and he just missed out on getting some points from the Finn, in the Renault.

He wasn't the only one too make some great overtaking moves, Kovelinen made some great overtaking moves, like the one on Alex Wurz. He could have finnished in the top 5 but he made the mistake of pitting in for intermediates at least 3-4 laps too early.

Then there is Alonso, who didn't make many overtaking moves at all but made the all important pass on Massa just a few laps from the end, he had the speed advantage in the wet and tried his best pass him on the first corner hairpin, Massa did some great defensive work to prevent him passing but Alonso didn't give up, by the third corner they where side-by-side with Alonso on the outside but he didn't give up and overtook, but it was a close one Massa hit the side-body of Alonso trting to drive defensively but couldn't prevent him.

Raikonnen led the first lap but slipped out of the pit-lane accidently triny to enter it, this meant he had to try and survive another lap in heavy rain while being on slick tyres, this put him right to the back of the grid. Still the Finn made many good overtaking moves and soon found himself in third and catching Alonso, unfortuneatly his gearbox started to give way and a few laps late it broke completely putting Kimi out of the race.

Another good story was that of the new Spyker driver Winklehock who decided (or his team did) that to start the race on extreme wet tyres right from the off, a low risk idea which payed off, he found himself in first place after just one lap, (a gain of 21 places) thanks to all the other drivers drining in to put on their extreme wet tyres or their inters. The following lap the safety car was deployed destroying his 34 second lead, but still he can still say he lead a F1 race for 4 laps, after that he decided to leave on the extreme wets hoping for more rain, it wasn't to be, the trailing cars soon overtook him putting him in 16th, his engine failed a few laps later.

There were others I thought did really well e.g Webber, Massa, Wurz. However I didn't have the time:guilty:

I did this post for the benefit of the unfortunate people who may have missed the race. In my opinion it was the best race of the season so far, infact it is the best F1 race I have seen for many years.

Good post, have to say I agree, best race I have seen for quite sometime. And next up is Hungary...another wet race? Never know.

While it was certainly one of the most entertaining/interesting F1 races in a very long time, I'd hardly call it a great race considering all the bad decisions made by the crew chiefs combined with the sporadic weather conditions, and several bad luck scenarios. With the exception of the last final laps between Alonso and Masa, much of the race was simply a lottery as to where everyone ended.

I did find it entertaining that Winkelhock in his first ever F1 race starts in last place from the pits and then starts in first a few laps later when they restart thanks to the only team that made a smart choice by starting the race in intermediates. However I certainly do not think he was robbed, as he had no chance whatsoever to finish even in the points, especially as he also had to head back in to switch to wets, but even then he still didn't have the lap times to stay in the top ten.

I'm glad Alonso won, as he clearly was faster than Masa at the end and made a great pass on him to take the lead. I also give props to Masa for some great car control throughout the race, but especially when he narrowly missed running over the hub cap that came off one of the Renaults.

Hamilton also showed some great moments, but too much bad luck to have much of a chance at moving past 9th place. It was unfortunate to see his streak of podium finishes end, but considering the conditions and carnage, if it was going to happen, today was certainly a day to expect the streak to end.

As much as I'm not a fan, I felt really badly for Kimi. Not only does his team get it wrong... like everyone else regarding the tire choice for the start of the race (its as if no one has even heard of Doppler radar?!?!), but then he over shoots the turn just before pit entry and must do another lap on dry tires in the pouring rain. Then much later in the race it appears he ran short on fuel. Not the kind of race he was hoping for in front of his Grandma.

Of all the performances though, I was most impressed by Wurz who was certainly on pace to repeat his podium finish in Canada. Brilliant race on his part. 👍

Overall though the race was just a bloody wet mess. Entertaining perhaps, but when so much luck is involved rather than mostly skill, I wouldn't personally consider it a great race. :indiff:

One thing is for sure, Hamilton can no longer enjoy that nice cushion of championship points he has been enjoying these last few weeks. Should make for an even more heated on-track battle between these team rivals, and at least for the time being, keep Alonso from whining to the Spanish press about how unfairly he is being treated at McLaren.
