They should have just extended the headlights and the normal grille down into the area where they put that crossover grill. I don't know about the horizontal lines in the headlights, but I think they whole design can grow on me.

edit: Oh yeah, the interior seems a little empty with that center console.

Wow, I like it. They finally fixed the center console. The e-brake is accessable with the armrest down. I like just about everything.

Question is, the pics show a 2dr coupe and 4dr saloon...but nothing that resembles the current ZX3/ZX5 hatchback. Are they doing away with the wild looking Focus hatch? A Focus isn't a Focus without that unusual hatchback. If they are doing a 2dr coupe, 4 dr saloon, AND a hatchback (2dr or 4dr) that would be awsome.

/me drools for the ST or possible SVT version of the new Focus

*edit*
Oh, the only thing I do not like is the choice of rims they have. Fugly...

Hmm. I don't know if I don't like it or I just don't want to admit it. I guess it just might be too futuristic for me. Don't like the rear lights at all. Too small. That center console is horrible. Like the fivehundred, it just doesn't catch me. I disapprove.

Exactly, bringing the EU focus to North America, would have been a smarter move.

It's the obvious move, it's the smart move, it's the right move. All three reasons why Ford isn't doing it.

Ob.design: Another car designed by three blind men with rusty hatchets trying to do something "Ssangyong-ish".

I like the interior...That's about it. The high end version fits with the bodywork, but that base model looks like trash. And that rear 3/4 view of the coupe reminds me of a Hyundai..or Kia..but I can't think of the model.

On the exterior, I have to give it a thumbs-down. I had high-hopes for the look based on that of the Edge and the Fusion, but this just belly-flops right into oblivion.

The odd matches of angles, edges, etc make the car look like it was thrown together in an attempt to be "edgy, daring" but failed miserably.

...However, the interior is a completely different story. To me, it comes off a bit Volvo-esque, very stylish, and actually kinda cool. The whole FordSync thing is pretty neat, and I'm interested in seeing it in action.

But, as we all know, we need the EU Focus. It is just the right thing to do...

Ok, Americans get over the fact that Ford WILL NEVER BRING THE NEW FOCUS TO THE USA. And now that you have accepted it also come to the realization that just because a platform starts to get old doesn't mean its rubbish. Several times has not only VW but other European manufacturers have recycled the Golf platform. Even today somewhere someone is still most likely using the previous MKIV Golf platform. Is it a bad platform? No, not by any means.

YSS, I can't understand how you think the exterior is bad...I figured of all people here YOU'D like it. The rear may not be its best side, but the front and sides look great. I think it looks light years better than the Cobalt.

I just comes off odd. A good guess may be that pictures don't do it justice, however I remain unconvinced that it is a good looking car. I do applaud the inclusion of a Fusion coupe, as it would be the model I'd be most interested in, however it is the exterior styling that really drops the ball on my foot. Overall, the rear 80% of the car looks fine, but the front just doesn't do it for me. It was as if they tore a page out of the Nissan design book, added a few horizontal bars, and called it the Focus. The combination of the grille/headlights just doesn't look right in the pictures.

...IMO, the Cobalt is far better looking than the Focus in this state. However, I would like to insert the G5 for the looks comparison for the coupes, as I do find that to be a rather attractive re-facing of the Cobalt Coupe...

Hatred at first sight. Its ugly and cheap lookin on the outside. Alloy and crunchy on the inside. Bleh.

It's a bad looking car. To get the facts straight; is this the American version of the Focus or is this the new European version that will be imported to the US??

Um, it’s kind of weird-looking. That’s all I have to say.

Exactly, weird looking. I love it. It's by no means beautiful, and isn't done as well as a Cadillac, but I love it. The front really reminds me of a Citroen, and the small taillights just look cool. It looks so European/Japanese! Look at the low-profile tires and big wheels on the coupe! I can't believe an American company came up with something that looks so...so...different.

Of course, I don't think it'll ever look as good as the old SVT three-door, and that goes for the Euro Focus as well.

The interior is also very nicely done. It looks great. I just hope it's not a new GM interior, that looks good but feels like crap. And I also want SVT to have a go at it. Not a Shelby version, because that's just not right, but an SVT version.

I'm skeptical towards it, I thought I was going to see an aggresive car, something the last Focus models had alot, I'm talking about the EU models now though.

It looks to "brave" to be a Focus, it needs a far more aggresive look on the front, I quite like the interiour though 👍

Funny how the cars are changing of design these days...

We've only just got our new Focus over here. I'm under the impression this is the new US market Focus, and it looks bad.

I thought so and I coudn't agree more!!! It is one ugly looking car.

...To further clarify, this is the same Focus we received in 1999, albeit with its third re-freshening in the styling and engineering department. Cheap to build, buy, and maintain keeps the sales coming for Ford North America. Looks like this may become the next Crown Victoria...

Are they going to take the same basic archetecure and try and build it for 30 years? could someone tell them that that doesn't work in the cutthroat compact car market?

I'll bet this has more to do with tooling costs in the Focus plant than anything else.

In some forums I saw a quote, which claimed that there would be no Focus hatch anymore..

Oh, come now... it's not so bad...

The body lines are decent, at least...

Oh, hell, who the heck am I kidding... it's hideous. The generic, overly-busy yet utterly anonymous Nissan Quest / Nissan Versa (as YSSMAN has stated) front (and the Versa practically redefined the word generic...), the rear end that looks like a slab of steel stuck between tail-lights from a 1/2 scale model... why couldn't they just have slapped a Mark II skin on it and called it chicken!?! People would've actually believed them!

On the bright side, the swage lines (apart from that horribly fake piece of chrome on the wing... please please turn that into an imbedded plastic accent instead) are a nice touch, and the interior has none of the weirdness/funkiness/cheapness of the current/outgoing Mark I...

And like JCE3000GT says, the Mark I Focus isn't exactly a bad platform to be building from... it's still a benchmark in terms of front wheel drive chassis development. As long as they've worked on the sound insulation and refinement, it should still be competitive.

Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean people will buy it. :(

Sorry not last year, I'm thinking it's still 2006, it was launched in 2005, but that still makes it only 2 years old.

The Ford Focus is a compact car/small family car made by the Ford Motor Company and sold in most Ford markets worldwide. It was launched in 1998 in Europe, and in 2000 in North America. Since then, it has become the most popular car in the United Kingdom, following in the success of the Escort, its predecessor. A new version of the Focus was launched in Europe in January 2005, while the United States received an updated version of the old model. In 2001 and 2002, Focus was the world’s best selling car.

Its really not all that bad. As you can see, the styling is either love it or hate it. I love it. :D

No it doesn't, and in the perfect world that would be okay. However, the Chevrolet Cavalier comes to mind very rapidly when you use such an example. And the fact that it is still a good platform is all well and good. But the point of fact is that the car is essentially the same as it was in 1999. Why would anyone want a 9-year-old new car when they can have the brand new Cobalt (not a good example), Rabbit (A better example) or Caliber? You can't tell me that they don't have bettrer chassis than the Focus.
And the fact that Ford continues to try to shove the Focus down our throats hurts even more because the Euro Focus is far better in every way than the old one.

Does the Golf still use the Mk. IV platform? No. You comparing different cars on older platforms is apples to oranges as one manafacturer restyling a car thrice and calling it "redesigned for X."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but are you saying that no car uses the MK IV Golf platform? If so, the New Beetle still does. But that car is craptastic.
