Explain the relevance please. An ugly car is an ugly car, and we have very successful ugly cars as well (new Camry, for example). Not to mention the Yaris.



Anyways it is sad to know that Honda has once again screwed up the sedan version of the Accord.

What? That has absolutely NOTHING to do with the way the cars look. Also, I have NO idea how well those Toyotas sell. I just took some pics from the Toyota UK website.

I actually think the new Camry, with the SE package, looks quite good. In fact, extremely good. And I love the Yaris, so its a matter of taste I would say.

This Accord, like I mentioned before, is just vanilla looking in most aspects, with the new modern styling that everything Japanese is getting. Of course, people will think it looks good and it will sell like hotcakes.

-> Same goes with the coupe, just added a teaspoon of sugar/spice/etc. Every year Honda gets more and more boring, just like Toyota in which already is, there will be no S2000 by 2009, great... SUV > Sport Cars. :indiff:

The SE is the only trim level that makes the Camry any bit attractive, and of the models we've had come through the Grand Rapids dealer, the only ones that ever came close to good looking (IMO) had so much TRD crap thrown at them that the parts were practically falling off with the double-sided tape they must have used (given the new Toyota-levels of quality).

(Furthermore, Toyota won't sell a stick with the V6, which automatically puts it out of competition for me)

The Accord, although it may be bland, is still an attractive car both inside and out. I think its asset is that while it may be unoffensive, it looks racy by comparison to other cars in its class. I still love the Coupe, mostly as the spiritual successor to the Prelude, but the sedan still gets my vote nine times out of ten.

...But then there are always those pesky VW products. Damn them and their awesomeness!

I'm so buying one when I have the money for such a vehicle of supreme awesomeness.

EDIT: Careful there too YSSMAN. Lots of people like to drive appliances. :p

I like the new Camry too, especially after the last generation. :yuck:

The Yaris may look OK on the outside, but on the inside is quite hideous.


As for this Honda, I think they should have stuck a little more closely to the concept.

I am rather disappointed, like I've said many times, over the quality of the new Camry. It just isn't impressive at all, and feels no better than my eleven year old VW, much less the twelve year old Camry that my mother had.

I was at the dealer not too long ago just to look at the Tundra, and while the guy was talking to me, I pointed out some of the design flaws and his head almost exploded. He told me he wasn't certified to talk about the truck, and he walked away.

...I've been meaning to go back and ask about the camshaft issues...

Bwahahaha... Just had a new Yaris for a one-week test... Gads, the kit was horrible... they had Coleman-spec plastic on the glovebox lids and the door trim (with rough edging from the molds, to boot!) and a full-TRD bodykit. The really horrid thing about the bodykit is that someone forgot to tell the painter at the dealership to shoot the rear skirt in the same color, so it ended up looking like violet lipstick on the back of the red car, and Toyota decided to put a double-tip extension on the single exhaust pipe. Would've worked, maybe, if you couldn't see the single exhaust sitting just four inches inside the unsealed double pipe tip.

And yes, the Honda Fit drives rings around the thing... sadly. I think I got the front chin-spoiler within an inch of the ground... without even trying to corner hard. :lol:

Not too bad, but why so many buttons? Toyota seems to be having the same problems as of late, too many buttons to do too many different things. I assume SatNav is partially to blame, but even so, I'd hope they ditch some of them in the "normal" models.
 
Too many more things than a car should do, If you ask me. especially a mainstream car.

*sigh*

Can I buy all the performance goodies and leave out the SatNav?
 
Very nice Infiniti. :p Yeah, it is pretty nice looking, but I don't care for so many buttons either.
 
They're probably there to confuse the old folks.
 
I haven't spent much time in new Toyotas beside my '06 Corolla and all the various Scions (so I haven't noticed a trend for too many buttons in the Toyotas) but I have spent plenty of seat time in the new Civic...
The Civic definately suffers from the "too many buttons" problem. :ouch:
In fact, the word used to describe the Civic by my little bro (not much of a car guy) was "too star-trekky."

IMO, this Accord doesn't seem to have improved on the Civic's Trekki-ness but I'd like to see it by night just to know for sure... The lighting of the buttons could make a big difference compared to the Civic.

That said, this definately looks better overall (IMO) just because they got the instrament panel right. 👍 👍
I'm not a fan of the two level tach-speedo combo. :indiff:

The Accords interior gets a big thumbs up from me. 👍
If for nothing else, just the display of tach and speedo. 👍 👍

Although I must admit to not liking any of Honda's steering wheels in the last few models... They all remind me a hard, star-trekky, molded plastic versions of E-150 steering wheels. :indiff:
Fortunately for Accord buyers, that wheel looks to have leather (although I'm still not a fan of the size of the body in the center of the wheel).
Of course, I've been spoiled. :sly:

More like it looks suspiciously like the Acura in-car system. A friend of mine has the RDX and that's exactly what it looks like. The knob, the screen...that's the current Acura system.
 
It looks like Honda is trying to go even more upmarket. A wanna-be wanna-be BMW?

Maybe they should focus on making bargain cars in huge quantities and leave the BMW competing for Acura.
 
I actually like this new interior, but the old one never seemed to look too "old".
 
There's not enough button-spacing... I can just imagine turning off the recirc button looking for a radio station... it's not the amount of buttons per se, but they're not spread out enough to prevent confusion.

I like this steering wheel more than the current. 👍
The only thing I don't particularly like in this interior is the mix of black, and wood grain. :indiff:
Other than that though, I find this interior to be better looking than the new one. Seems odd but I guess I'm just not up to the times. :ouch: :dopey:

Well, it isn't bad, is it? I still love the Accord after all these years, and this continues the trend... Despite the somewhat funky interior. I'm interested in driving one back-to-back with the all-new Malibu.
 
I won't make any "Sonata" quips... someone else will, in short time... but I have some comments:

The rear end of the sedan lacks character... that big plain expanse of trunk just screams "lazy!", like a sort of half-hearted attempt to catch the tail-end of Bangle-butt-ism. Put some detail there... any detail, please!

Very non-controversial, in a 3-series sort-of way, from the tail-lights to the front, but the upper and lower grille treatment are too staid and simple... Sure, the CR-V's new schnoz is outrageous, at best, but at least it's got style. This just has a sort of generic grille pattern pasted into the holes.

Same for the coupe, but the top grille is at least acceptable and the lower grille has some substance and shape. The shape of the vehicle, overall, is unobjectionable... very tightly drawn and well-thought-out. I especially like the rear-end.

I'd wrap the edge of the headlights around the front fender more, but it may look better-wrapped in person. I don't think a face-to-face will change my mind about those grilles, though... they just don't flow with the design very well, and they don't counterpoint it, either... they just look... off.

The dash looks pretty good, except for those hundred buttons for the a/c and stereo, and the rest looks really nice. 👍

The interior is pretty much an evolution of the 2007 model, but I'd personally prefer the dials to the up/down toggles on the sides. At least they seemed to use a different color of plastic to denote a different function. I don't like having to press up|up|up|up|up|up or hammering the down|down|down|down|down button too many times to adjust the A/C, radio, or whatever else while driving, it's sort of distracting. A dial moves faster, and it feels a bit more intuitive when looking for a "middle ground" between two extremes.

Besides, the dials on the latest Hondas are so silky-smooth in operation that they could put Moen and Kohler out of business if they want another side-venture from cars, engines, and planes.
 
Not sold on the cut-outs in the nose where there should be ducting for radiatiors or brakes or something. the Coupe's a bit better, the the rear of both cars is...uninspiring.

They're both not bad, but not great either.

I disagree. Although I don't much love the new Accord's butt, the "put any detail there!" attitude is exactly what has landed the automotive world in the current mess of abysmal styling. Look at this gen Sonata - what makes it look so good is that it's CLEAN - no pointless tarting up or detail-for-it's-own-sake to make it look cheap. The Sonata looks like it costs $5000 more than it does. Most other new cars, with all the flashy decorations splattered all over them, look like they cost $5,000 more than they should.
