Nah, I am fairly certain its going to be Ralf.
No, its certain its going to be Sato. ;)
But anyhow, Hekki is just not gonna win here. Its definitely going to be Hamilton! I mean, he is McLarens team leader, and Heikki will be there to back him up. But no...... no, can't really see McLaren winning this. Sad that somehow they are almost in the same position as Ferrari last year, just hopefully they can sort out that tire wear issue.....
Next unluckiest driver ever?
Unluckiest driver ever.... until he swtiches to Ferrari, like a certain Finn :sly:

Wrong on both accounts. He will switch to Ferrari, like a certain German!!! :dopey: But yeah, unlucky they had to switch both gearboxes just so they could use the STR 3. I mean if they we're smart enough (or it wasn't allowed anymore?) they could just run both cars. Bourdais will get to drive the new STR3 while Vettel could retain his STR2 with some new parts. That way they can observe which car should perform better and don't have to worry about the grid penalty.... [/facepalm.jpg]

I’d rather run the new car with the penalty than the old one without it…

Okay..... but why both new cars? I mean, the STR3 maybe tested a lot, but is it good enough for the race? Especially on the highly demanding track like Monaco? But never mind, that is all STR's decision and not mine. Just don't expect them to finish in the top 8 (or even finish at all) when raceday comes.......

I really want Vettel to finish this one. But based on his previous races it's highly unlikely that he'll finish at this particular track.

Why? Because the STR3 is faster. It's probably a better chassis, and far more downforce. The STR2B isn't a wonder in terms of speed or reliability, so they may as well use a faster car. You appear to forget that the STR3 was in development for as long as the other cars - and even longer. It just doesn't many any sense to delay it more than it already is.

Plus, even if they don't do well this weekend, it's valuable data for the next race.

I wouldn't dare bet on this race, but my 'darkhorse' would be Jarno Trulli.

That's what I'm hoping for. Jarno kicks ass when it comes to hotlaps, and if he manages to get in say 7th behind all Ferrari's, Mclarens and BMW's, he should be able to keep that position since the gap with Renault, Williams and RBR is minimum. I just hope he has a better start this time...

And as far as Glock goes this time, it's time to qualify yourself in the top 10 boy!

:tup:Well said. Trulli was smashing @ PaulRicard all three days last week... Glock is a spectacular failure in my eyes. I'm looking to see what Seabass can do with STR3 after being enlightened here on his 'street' cred. Will FP1 ever come?EDIT* I see Heidfeld is coming under pressure to perform, being outclassed by RK since AUS GP...

I don't see the logic in Vettel getting a 5 grid spot penalty for introducing a new car to Monaco. Yeah sure rules say cannot change the gearbox for 4 races, engine for 2. But it's a new car of course, everything on that Rosso would be (should be) new and improved.

IMHO, the longer this rule is in the more it's ruining the sport.

Yeah, the four of them are all ones to watch.

Glock really needs to prove himself. What do you guys think the odds are that Nico Rosberg replaces him?

Speaking of drivers, I wonder what happened with Sutil. Do you guys think he's off the pace because of Force India or just because he was overhyped last season?

Anyway, Monaco should be fun this year.

What happened to Vettel was unexpected in the first place - and is also the first time this rule has been triggered. I don't see why it's such a big deal: Doesn't matter why. If he changed a gearbox, five places, end of story.

The odds? 1:[speed of light]. Nico is signed at Williams, happy there, and Williams are doing fine at the moment. In his German TV interviews, he always expresses his happiness and desire to remain at Williams..

Last season, he was genuinely fast. He did well in the worst car of the grid, and was pretty much at the same spot, pace-wise, when Force India held it's driver-shootout. It appears that Fisico is just getting along better with the current car... Plus, we've only seen Adrian complete one race so far.

@Omnis- a move to Toyota for Rosberg? He's not impressing me lately since AUS GP... Sutil was indeed overhyped, imho so is Rosberg! Were it not for his father I doubt he'd have got this far. His driving doesn't do much for me. Yes, Monaco should be fun.

It seems as though nobody impresses you...

In this season, it's nigh impossible for anyone to score more than 6th-7th without some bad luck with the top three. Fighting for that one point is far harder this season, and the Williams isn't faster than the Toyota, Red Bull or Renault - almost equal.

Rosberg for me is always hard to rate. I mean he is definitely quick, but the way Webber dominated him so much in his first season is always in the back of my mind. Of course Nico’s inexperience played a part, and the car was quite a dog for most of the year.

There is also the fact that Webber seems to mentally dominate his team mates and get the team behind him and demotivate the other guy, which is something I haven’t heard for a while but I remember hearing it through his Jaguar years and his first year at Williams.

But still, that first year always sits in the back of my mind because after his debut Rosberg never really seemed to get it together in 2006… and he’s not had particularly great team-mates in the time since.

Uh...... no? Why? Well it doesn't matter anyhow because Metar has already said it. But I just want to point out that Nico is doing the best he can under these circumstances. Yeah, he should be improving a lot by now after... (driving for 3 year?) So he does have experience, but don't say he isn't trying. He is still one of the young talents in F1 and wouldn't surprise me if get as far as Heidfeld is right now..... (okay, just don't look at Nick right now. More like when he was 1-2 years ago.... :p)

Well I agree on the Webber part. He has been like that since he first raced with Minardi, but at least he does perform well unlike someone else..... But yeah, just can't see where Nico has improved over these years......

Adrian Sutil did a great job last year, and outpaced his teammates on nearly every occasion. Not to mention, he was in the Spyker. At a place like Spa, he did a wonderful job staying in the middle of the field, on a "power circuit"...in a car with no power. That says a lot about his skill.

Of course, Sutil had the misfortune of debuting the same season Hamilton and Kovalinen made their first starts.

Ha Ha !!! I suspected you were lurking about 'invisibly'. For what purpose, I wonder? There are a few drivers I respect, Massa, Webber, Trulli. Only one driver "impresses" me. 2xWDC Fernando Alonso. Now, come out, come out, where ever you are before posting your 'blather'... @Pupik- thanks, now I'm saying 'blather'!LOL:sly:

No offence taken, my man. Please take note of the order in which I placed STR/RBR to 'fold'.
Where in the name of all that's holy did that come from. The only reason Toro Rosso is up for sale (or folding as you would somehow like to put it) is that it cannot meet the new customer car rules which state they are fully illegal. These new regulations are not going to become effective this year though, I think it is the next year, or the year after, or the year after that. Sometime in the next century anyway thats for sure! :) 👍

*SIGH* Due to rising costs and worldwide financial woes it is becoming increasingly difficult for privateers to enter or stay in Formula One. Super Aguri is a classic example. This is the opinion of Nick Fry, CEO of Honda F1 as found today @ Planet-F1, well after my post. Moving on... looks like rain for qualifying and race day, and a war looms off the horizon between Bernie & Max over control of F1. Now, I must leave for fantasy land, Alonso plans a surprise! I just love surprises... Enjoy the day, gents.

Time for the Monaco wing-show:

Red Bull's "everything you can do, I can do bigger":

Renault takes wing-bridges to a whole new levels: Full-sized twin elements, small shields, gurney flaps.

Plus extra flipups and Indyfins:

BMW's look very regular, but at a higher angle:

McLaren - bigger vents on the sidepods:

A weird new breed of rim-shields on the Toyota cars:

And look at that scoop :

And they're obviously going by the theory: "Kimi and Heikki aren't the only fins" (error intentional)

And newcomers STR:

What? Huh?

....San Dimas High School Football rules!

STR picked a questionable time to run their new car; you don't learn much from Monaco (you can't apply much from the slowest, tightest circuit in GP racing), and it's going to be very difficult to make up 5 places on the grid for any driver, unless there's a lot of attrition. I suppose it involves a lot of gear changes, so they'll get real-life testing out of that 'box.

That said, they either thought they could get away with it, or the FIA rule is fussier than I thought.

You know, this makes alot of sense, but I guess they decided to take a bullet. With ride heights 5-7mm higher than normal, and everything else, gearbox data is about all they'll get... hell, even revised, softer 'super-soft' tires make this race almost useless in terms of 'data collection'...👍

Those Toyota parts look sweet, I'm just hoping they can score points here 👍

Is it me or is Trulli really fast in wet conditions? Let's hope for rain and some spectacular racing then

About Rosberg, I cannot see a move from him. Why would he? Williams is getting on track again, and so far, he has out-paced all of his team mates (referring to Wurz and Nakajima). Ok, Wurz had more points, but he was one lucky sod last year :dopey:

Also, Toyota vs. Williams vs. RBR battle FTW! I can't tell for sure where Renault is at the moment, but I would place my bets on placing them right in this group as well :)
