Directly from Spain, first session results:
5th. Kovalainen
6th. Alonso (+ 0.18 seconds only!)

On the other hand, Kimi and Massa are very close, and half a second ahead of Hamilton, who, in turn, is half a second ahead of Alonso.

Who is 1.2s behind the Ferraris.

FP1 - Both Ferrari's quickest by half a second from Hamilton, Kubica, Kovalainen, Alonso, Piquet, Coulthard, Heidfeld and Button.

Massa spun twice, first at the final chicane and then out of turns 6 and 7. The Super Aguris ran with all white cars, apart from the black and red on the nose, but managed 24 laps between them. Trulli was also another spinner, this time at Turn 9.

BTW, I think some of you guys should head over to www.sidepodcast.com, they have a Live Commenting thread, that lets you talk about the Practice, Qualifying and race sessions as they happen. It's good stuff.

Interesting aero treatments this round. Here's a few captures from FP1. Don't click if you don't want to be spoiled:

Tipping Kimi for the win, McMerc 2nd and 5th, BMW 3rd and 6th. I'm lost on 4th. Chances of rain seem mild.

The quality makes '90s interwebs cry. Most websites carry same-size, but far better quality. For example.

Ferrari on the move again. 0.5 sec off Lewis even though its just FP1.

They've been charging hard, though. Among the first teams to set competitive times, and Raikkonen repeatedly improved himself, with Massa coming out for short hotlaps. McLaren were active later on in the session, rarely pitting.

Congratulations. I was taking screenshots from a zoomed-in media player. It's basically the quality of a phone picture. You can still get the idea.

Welcome new guy! Barcelona, I see. Hmm, you'll fit in here perfectly.👍

Thanks. I'll try to be polite and balanced. BTW, looks like in Montmeló there will be good weather at the next days.

For me the man at the mo is Kimi despite not beating Massa he delivers consistently when the car delivers where as Massa has good and bad days and this does not make for consistency. Hamilton will deliver sooner or later and will always regret not taking his chance last year -lost when left out a lap to long on worn tyres - i was calling him in from my sofa as i,m sure you all were. His task is much harder now Ferrari not only have momentum but also to consider BMW are on the way and will play a monumentous roll in the overall results. Good Luck to all -- Prediction 1ST KIMI 2ND HAM 3RD MASSA 4TH HEID 5TH KOV

Get ready, 2nd sesion results:

Well that session wasn’t remotely telling then… Bring on qualifying. :D

Here is the magic:
link removed

How could I not possibly have known about that earlier? Thank you oh so very much. :D:tup:

Meanwhile I’m pretty sure that would be piracy and against the AUP so you should probably remove the link. ;)

Well, well, well. El Matador P3.
Good job, orimarc. Nice results post. Stick around, no need to be polite.

Beaten by his rookie teammate. Now where have I heard that before?

:p

Anyhoo, it's only practice.

Oh, and yes, there is a need to be polite. It's part of what makes this forum so good.

I'd put Kubica in 4th and Heidfeld fighting Alonso for 6th.

I'm hoping for a good race. If it rains I can see Rubens ranking good.

As odd as it seems, the new engine-cover is only a small part of the Renault's updates for Barcelona. The team finally got J-Dampers to work on the recent tests - a variation on 2006's Tuned Mass Dampers, reportedly used by McLaren for 2007, and by Ferrari and BMW since 2008 as well. As a mechanical component, it's invisible to us - but reportedly improved traction by such a degree that McLaren and BMW engineers rated it as almost 0.3-0.4 per lap.

What's so odd about that? Noone expected an engine cover to solve all the R28's problems.

Well practice has been pretty much meaningless all weekend. Quite frustrating really. Bring on qualifying.
