The Renault-engined playing havoc with the fuel-loads?

WTF? That is one heck of a lap time by RBR and Alonso (sorry about Nelsinho :indiff:) The gap between Webber and Massa is by 0.5 sec. But to be honest, that is not really fast enough even if they ran super light. But I'm still worried over the Renault's engine blowing up during the race. The engine probably have a hard time running at those speeds during the race...... (and hence, why Alonso's engine blew up in Barcelona)

Massa's time is almost exactly like Raikkonen's fastest from FP2. So, yes, probably a bit light - but still the fastest time set this weekend so far.

But I'm still worried over the Renault's engine blowing up during the race. The engine probably have a hard time running at those speeds during the race...... (and hence, why Alonso's engine blew up in Barcelona)

You're worried about the Renault engine, which almost never broke so far (including last season's identical pieces)? Because a 2nd-race engine broke? You can just as well be concerned about Ferrari's engine, which still is a grenade in the Toro Rossos and Force Indias.

Lewis on hard tyres for final run, after massa blew him to pieces.

edit: WTF james allen 'and now we go back onboard with rubens barrichello' who is out last round and the camera is on hamilton's car.

Okay, point taken. :) I'm just worried that they would not be performing as good as Malaysia....

The Qualifying session was pretty much boring (with many teams choosing to go out late) and yet another Ferrari on pole. :guilty: Massa must be pretty light to run a qualifying time like that. I mean he was almost 0.1 sec ahead of 2nd place. Alonso did well, managing to qualify 7th and RBR did a good job having both cars in the Top 10. 👍 BMW seems to struggle throughout the weekend and was nowhere near the McLaren or Ferrari, just hope they do well come raceday.....

Actually, I think Massa's not that light - considering the fact that McLaren are probably lighter, to make up for their blunder last time at Barcelona: They qualified heavy, and paid for it when Alonso and the BMWs started ahead. A tenth is a joke - it's gained and lost in a single corner. If he was five tenths ahead, I'd say he's light. But a tenth, against a McLaren? The Ferrari is still fastest, even if not so much.

As for BMW, Kubica set a monster lap in Q2, and was very competitive throughout the qualifying-session - and four tenths behind Raikkonen isn't exactly struggling, especially if you don't know the fuel-loads. It's Nick who's struggled this weekend with his tyres - he complained about not getting enough temperature into them, hence his out-in-out laps to heat up the tyres a bit longer.

Well the commentator did say both BMW's were struggling with their tires taking a longer time to heat up (3-4 laps to get to racing temperature) and RBR were faster than them in Practice. But its no surprise if Kubica got up there in 5th, as he has been a qualifying specialist just like Webber. Good job for both of them getting up there. 👍 Still got to say, the race is gonna be interesting on who is running light and who is gonna make up some places during the race..... but I still doubt Massa is running lighter than both of the McLarens. Even Kimi is a few tenths behind him....

But don't forget, if an Chasis isn't really good enough, then mostly the engine has to work harder thus putting more stress on it.

Dissapointing qwali :( But hopefully better race for kimi, mclaren are up the pace again but how will the fuel loads be. Kimi said he made a mistake in his lap and ferrari are having a high top speed, so who know maybe we will see some overtaking tomorrow at the front for a change :)

Will we see a straight up battle between Scuderia pilots, I wonder? Surely, it will be a red 1-2, but who? The track & facilities look flawless, well kept. Massa had better 'bring it', as I don't see the Finn repaying him for the mighty gift in Sao Palo last year. P10 for Alonso in WDC standings, such sadness...

He needs to harness the power of the epic beard otherwise he's in trouble.

I'm pleased to see Webber up there, maybe finally he's gonna nail a season together and we can truly see what he's made out of, so far, so good.

Isn't it a little bit too late for Webber to shine now he's at RBR? I mean, if the 2006 Williams engine wasn't such crap (Cosworth?), that would be his chance. But ever since he moved to RBR, it always sounded like his final team to me...

That's how I feel too...DC's days are numbered. Hence the low fuel hot lapping, imho, during practice. Act of desperation to 'look' impressive?

The FIA are fiddling with Nick's car to make him slower. They don't want a bearded guy on the podium.

Raikkonen was unhappy with his final run, and said to have made a few mistakes there. Massa may be a lap lighter, but any more of that and a one-tenth lead would've been a disappointment. He had a fantastic third sector - in fact, he gained two tenths there on Kovalainen. That's not down to fuel, that's down to some good luck and a fast car.

Alonso felt that same pressure last year, huh? Bernie's guys probably left him an electric razor, a letter of explanation and a note saying 'Choose wisely'.

P4 is not too bad for Kimi, obviously fuel is another question. HK did a fantastic job for P2. Massa like this circuit a lot and has done very well in the past, his race pace would be another issue but I will expect him to do well "if" he doesn't make any stupid mistakes.

It will be a very exciting turn 1 as again we have a McLaren/Ferrari staggered P1~P4

So they're trying to slowly phase him out to mid-field. I guess this also explains Alonso's departure from McLaren.

The track should offer many overtaking chances. I am really looking forward to the race.

Weaker on the left hand side*.

Yeah, I was for some reason imagining a right hand turn when I wrote that.

Well RBR have a good technical team and Webber is doing a great job, so long as they keep a check on their reliability staying at RBR in the long-term isn’t necessarily a bad thing for him. But yeah, luck (or a lack of it) has been the story of his career to date and it’s probably too late to get picked up by a winning team.

Yeah, it promises an interesting fight between the McLarens and the Ferraris. I can’t wait, this is always a great track for racing. :D:tup:

Put it all together, save Couthard's squeeze-into-Q3 attempt, and you have one of the tightest grids in recent memory: Less than 2 seconds spanning the entire grid!

Meh, Q3 doesn’t count. But still, if you take everyone’s fastest times it’s 2.331s covering the entire field. Which, considering then length of the Istanbul Park circuit, is quite amazing.

I dont watch alot of F1 lately, so im no expert but I have a feelnig RBR have some legitimate speed this weekend, especially their sector 3 times are amazing. From what i could tell during Q3, Webber and Coulthard only did a single flying lap, but I am probably mistaken. I think they're heavy or at least got a decent amount of fuel on board

Got to be a Massa win. I have strong doubts as to whether Piquet is going to last the season at Renault.

And Jarno again in the top-8, that's a top 10 qualifying for every race now, talk about consistent qualifying 👍

Let's just hope Trulli doesn't experience that communication problem again, it costed him his 6th place at Barcelona :ouch:

wow, that is a very detalied map you got there.., (nods head) 👍:D

this should turn out to be an exciting race, RBR is now up in the grid with WEB and McLaren on 2nd & 3rd..,

Starting Grid/Qualifying:

Fisico will start last - three places penalty for exiting the pits too early in Friday Practice 1.

It's been very close for quite a while, especially in the mid-field - though Aguri dragged that margin to four seconds.

I'm liking that Heikki's on the front row. While I think it will be Massa, Raikkonen and Hamilton who are most likely to win it, I wouldn't be sorry to see Kovalainen on the top tier (or any tier, of that matter) come the chequered flag.

Hello Everybody, good to see the same people watchin. It's 7:24AM in GA right now.

Mclaren is up on the grid this week, hope they make good of it.

Oh, silly Hamilton.

"My first thought was, no points. Second, he could be injured and not make the next race" or words to that effect.
