Final lap of last year's race

With arguably the biggest weekend in motorsports coming up, this race might of slipped your mind. Last year, GTP had a great disscusion on the 24 hours of Nürburgring and hopefully we'll continue that tradition!

Stream starts at around 9:30am eastern this Saturday

Great stuff, I'll be up all night, talking rubbish and e-mailing radio le mans with stupid questions

pretty much the same as last year 👍

It won´t be as much cars as in the last years. The ADAC changed the reglement and forbid cars under a certain amount of displacement.
"Only" 180 cars at the main event. (Last years 230 in the training, 210 in the race)
The reglement allows now GT3 cars (FIA) their class is SP9.
SP10 are the GT4 cars.
SP1 and 2 are not existing anymore.
4 Audi R8 LMS will try to win...

That's a shame, I enjoyed watching the progress of the Rover Mini last year.

oops sorry for the double post

Interesting, a Holden Commodore on the entry list, better go tell Paulie,

A lot of Aston Martin's this time around I see, I don't remember there being that many last year.

GT4 class (SP 10) will be the most of them.

And a 3l (SP 5) from Tim Schrick. (Heavily modified V8 Vantage)

Yeah, no Rover Mini. No Fiestas, no Swifts, no Mitubishis from Australia... I don´t like the changes in the reglement much.

I guess it's all in the name of saftey, the speed differance down the main straight between the Manthey 911's and a Rover Mini must be huge, I can't imagine that's much fun in the rain at 2am.

Just found this, the speed differance is very apparent, the dashboard say's lap three and he's already lapping people.

I remember when watching the race in '07 that they were already lapping the slowest cars in the second lap, altough that has more to do with how the race starts (multiple start-grids). I understand the safety approach, altough I'd rather see the fastest cars slowed down instead of banning the slowest cars.

There are still quite a few interesting cars in the race, though. The Opel Manta, for example, and the Auris, which everybody outside Europe knows as the Corolla.

I'll be browsing in on the live-feed this weekend, that's for sure. Not sure if I'll stay up all night, though.

I've read that this could be the last year for that car fox tail and all, it's a shame as it's taken part in every Nurburgring 24hr race I've seen.

Why should you care about the 24 Hours at the Nürburgring? I answer here:

This is always an accomplishment to complete even one lap around this massive course. Not crazy about this race like most others, but I absolutely respect this race. Good luck to all the drivers and teams competing in this year's race.

Eh? The Commodore is in the same class as a Corvette and a V12 Vantage. It's not that tuned down ex-V8 Supercar from last year is it?

Presumably it is. It's been going for a few years now and the fans at the track apparently love it. Still, it's a pity it is tuned down.

I just read in an article from 2008 that for 2009 he plans on using a 655hp 6.0L V8 in it, but I could have sworn it was downgraded some other way, like weight or something.

Looks like I was mistaken. I didn't pay much attention to last year's race so I didn't realize Mal Rose had gotten rid of the old VS Commodore for a new VY model.

The car is an ex-GRM V8 Supercar, but with carbon fibre bonnet and front guards, and modifications for night-time running. He has gone ahead with the 6.0L swap-over. The only reason it is tuned down is to make the engine last for 24 hours. Top speed was down from 295 to about 283 kmh when running the 5.0L.

He took the car to 5th in class in the Dubai 24hr earlier this year, even with 2 hours spent in the pits after the diff let go.

Well good luck to him this year anyway.👍

Well, let's see if I can stay up all night listening to this thing. Three tabs open on my computer: webcam, RLM, and this thread. Hooray for epic amounts of Red Bull, is all I'm going to say. I'll miss the start, though (effing work means I can't get home until 5 hours in).

Something else: There are a decent number of teams with only two drivers. All I can say is this: What are they, completely daft? (As in, are you really going to run a stint long enough to let your partner get some rest?)

I'll be hooking my computer up to the TV again. I'm so glad that a live internet feed is available. Hopefully, though, there's not nudity again during the broadcast.* It's embarrassing trying to explain why there are nude women dancing on the TV to your family.

*Anyone remember if that was last year or the year before? I can't quite remember.

Edit: Nevermind, it must have been the year before, since I also mentioned it in last year's thread. Funny that's one of the only things I remember from such an epic race. That, and the passed-out guy on the tree branch near the end of the race.

If you mean talking rubbish for 24hrs wilst watching the race, why yes, yes it is. 👍

More specifically, discussion of where torrents may be available for coverage of the race. :) I know some forums frown on this as it can be considered linking to copyrighted material.

You won't need them. It'll be covered live, on the web, for free, here.

Edit: And the first post in this thread also has a few other links that you'll be wanting to check out, specifically Radio Le Mans if you want english commentary on the race, since the live stream only provides german. Mute the latter, and listen to RLM. That's what I did, and it works perfectly fine.

Apologies CerealKiller, I completely miss read the question:crazy:

Ranhammer posted this link on page one, it looks good for live coverage

http://tv.audi.de/

also, a Ford GT on pole, I bet Porsche and Audi didn't see that one coming.

There are 4 R8's in the top 6

1st Ford GT #40
2nd Porsche #1
3rd R8 #99
4th R8 #97
5th R8 #100
6th R8 #98
7th porsche #2
8th porsche #5
9th porsche #6
10th BMW #25

And i'm going for the #100 R8 for the win 👍

Ok well if anyone is interested, racingunderground.ru has someone uploading rather high quality torrents, free practice and qualifying so far.

These streams look pretty good, the one I watched last year was terrible.
