I can easially see a Merc engine winning this, probably a toss up between Brawn and McLaren. I know the latter still have issues with generating downforce in high speed turns, so maybe that wittles their chances down a bit. But then you can say that's made up by the lovely little KERS button.

Ferrari and Red Bull should duke it out for points too and keep an eye on Toyota, the only track I can think of that closely resembles Monza is Bahrain, and they took the front row in quali there.

Bee's Super Duper Awesome Predictions

1st: Barrichello
2nd: Hamilton
3rd: Button
4th: Vettel
5th: Kovalainen
6th: Raikkonen
7th: Webber
8th: Sutil

Fastest Lap: Hamilton

Pole: Vettel on a stupid fuel load.

Brawn win? I agree with Hamilton could be on the podium though. The KERS cars will be the best over here. Why else do you think Reno will install KERS just for this GP? KERS will do really well out here just like it did for Kimi at Spa. Forza Ferrari!

I think we will see a battle between the KERS cars, with RBR and Brawn struggling to keep up.

The Ferrari is probably the fastest car on the grid right now, the Brawns' and the McLarens' victory time is over, its Ferrari, Red Bull, Force India time now.

I wouldn't be counting out Hamilton and Heikki yet.

 do you care to explain better why you think this, considering the Ferraris were never, in all races so far, the fastest cars?

PJ-FFL could be predicting that Italian national pride could give Fisichella some sort of spiritual infinite KERS boost!

Im not expecting ferrari in front really. Ferrari does not seem the fastest car at all.

Prediction round:
1. Barrichello
2. Webber
3. Vettel
4. Hamilton
5. Raikkonen
6. Rosberg
7. Kovalainen
8. Fisichella

Where you been man! Not seen you post in ages!

Between Kimi and Hamilton for me. Maybe Alonso sneaking in for a good haul of points and then Webber and Vettel also scoring. Not sure of Button yet, see if he bottles it.

Because he's the consumate Ferrari fan ... he tipped them to win every race from Australia to Britain.

Hmmm dunno, guess it's a gut feeling, I mean, you'd have expected KERS to do well at say Silverstone, Catalunya or Bahrain, yet every time it was won by a non-KERS car. For sure, off the start I think KERS is fantastic, but as Fisichella proved at Spa, it's not the end all for absolute performance.

Brawn are a smart team, I can't see them just suddenly falling off the pace, they'll be right up there.

Oh and before I forget, Only_in_f1, open up some space in your PM box will ya? ;)

Hmmmm... KERS cars will do more favour this weekend...

But will FI do the same just like last 2 weeks ago?? BMW will look like the same but the fact that BMW is really good in straight lne speed (aero efficiency). Ferrari and McLaren, no doubt that they will do good. Renault, Williams, Toyota and the rest will still fight as usual. RBR is a big question mark, will their engine last for this weekend or both got busted?? It's a tough question but I'm very sure they will be more cautious and don't get surprise if they done less lap than usual. This is going to be a fantastic weekend again I hope and if rain comes down, boy is it gonna look like last year???

Hopefully RBR stay competitive and can pull a good position, looking forward to Monza. 👍

With less wing again than the last race, I expect the cars with the greatest improvement at Spa to shine even more. BMW improved to no end , and being noted having plenty of power. Force India will be right there again as well as Ferrari.
Being late in the season, I suspect the lower downforce will be play havoc on the engine life as well. Keeping this in mind, Red Bull and BGP will be playing it safe.
Some of the other teams might suprize, maybe Torro Rosso.

I didn't expect the KERS cars to do so well at the tracks you mentioned. Because: All the KERS cars back then had bad aerodynamics, compared to Red Bull and Brawn. Still have, actually, but they're recovering. The circuits you mentioned are all pretty hight downforce circuits. Silverstone is almost only fast corners, so is catalunya. Bahrain is a little less fast corners, but, Kimi got Ferrari's first points there. Hamilton 4th.

Have you seen how bad Kimi was in the 2nd sector at Spa? That was rather the only sector that required downforce. On the other sectors, he won big time. So, you can conclude the Ferrari is fast when there are only low aerodynamics needed. Guess what's at monza? Low aero! The KERS cars can utilize KERS very well from the two tightest chicanes. The teams haven't even tested their low aero setup, so maybe the aero works worse for them than in Spa or silverstone. Ferrari hasn't the fastest cars on the grid, but if the KERS system is used smartly, they can get alot of points.

I'm not saying Ferrari won't score points, like I mentioned, KERS is great for the start, I just can't see it being as much of a help as some people on here are saying. You keep using Spa as a reference about the KERS being great for Ferrari, which sure, it was, it got Kimi the lead on the restart but Fisichella was still able to keep up with Kimi all race, and probably could've passed him if he had a couple of extra laps of fuel, without the use of KERS.

I'm sticking to my guns here and predicting a Brawn 1-3 with Lewis meddling in the middle.

The annoucement from Santander is expected at 1400 GMT today. I'm thinking that means 0000 tomorrow for me as Australia is ten hours ahead.

I don't speak Italian and cannot get a picture, but I am told that in this interview with Luca yesterday, he says Alonso will not race for them in 2010.

Didn't think of that... KERS cars have bad aerodynamics... But with the help of the system, the car can accelerate faster but lack of high end top speed. The car that has the best top speed is probably the Ferrari. I think it's all people's race, no one got so much advantage.... Yet another close race are expected...

Aww come on man Brawn sucks! :p

But seriously, I don't know for sure if KERS is going to be THAT big of an advantage either, BUT:
-There are two really slow chicanes: KERS cars are quicker up to speed, if the straight is long and you're quicker up to speed = higher average speed on the straight. Same like Spa. I think it's going to work like this. Spa had only 2 slow corners, but one corner had only a small straight behind it. Monza is full of straights.
-Reno are installing KERS I heard
-BMW said it misses the KERS system for this track.

I predict Brawn is going to be in the middle.
It kinda worries me though that Ferrari themselves are playing their chances down. I hope they just do it to give themselfves some fresh air. Tomorrow if Kimi is in the Top 6 once, I think he's going to do pretty well in quali and the race too.

What do you mean, lack high end top speed? If a car has KERS it doesn't mean it lacks high end top speed...
Ferrari has KERS you know that? You're contradicting yourself.

About the issue of an Italian driver racing for Ferrari in Italy, I believe Nicola Larini raced in San Marino in 94 (at the time Alesi was injured and didn't race), but I don't know if Imola counts.

I wonder about how effective KERS will be because in Monza there aren't that many breaking spots to charge it.

I would guess Force India to do well again. It looks like their cars work the tires better than Brawn in fast tracks, but losing Fisichella might affect their final position. McLarens should do better than Spa because Monza doesn't have a lot of fast turns like Spa.

My guess is that we'd see the best cars being Ferrari, Force India, McLaren, Brawn, and Red Bull in this exact order. But Force India would be a little behind because of their drivers.

I believe Monza is taken at full throttle something like 73% of the time. There are braking zones going into the first turn, della Roggia, Ascari and the Parabolicia.

No... It's because they have use most of the back of the car to fit in the KERS...

They can achive high end speed when they use the KERS, but not when they're not using the it as the car will be heavier and lack of aero... Especially on the diffuser and some parts on the underfloor... Ferrari has KERS but yes Ferrari has prove last race that they're fast on the Kammel straight because of the KERS system... But remember, the KERS can only last for good 6.6 seconds and it cannot be used for the rest of the lap... Now it's the game for everyone... KERS cars will have an advantage on the start straight for about 5 tenths or so (just my opinion) but when it comes to cornering and some other straights where the KERS has been used for the first second straight lines, then it's aero efficient cars will have the advantage... I'm not contradicting myself... It has been proved last weekend and I know that it's gonna be diffeent for this weekend...

Sorry sejtur, I know that you're a Ferrari fan...

Did you know that all cars weigh thesame? Because of the rules? It doesn't matter if you have KERS or not, all car's gotta weigh 605KG. And I know KERS can only be used 6,7 secs per lap.

But is saying that the KERS cars have a not so high top speed, and then saying Ferrari probably has the highest top speed, not contradicting yourself?

Force India have consistently had the highest top speed in all the races that I've taken notice of top speed times.

Not my words...

Yeah I know the rules... also plus the driver, fuel etc... And also ruin the weight distribution a bit...

KERS cars doesn't have a very high top speed when they don't press the button, but yes when pressing the button of KERS... Ferrari ''probably'' has the highest top speed when Kimi or Fisi use the KERS... But it's just my opinion and the real one to be prove this weekend...

Please anyone correct me if I got the fact wrong :)

Top speeds in F1, since the introduction of wings, is mainly down to aerodynamic efficiency. This is why you'll get "lesser" teams at the top of the speed charts as they need to run less downforce in order to try and keep up.

I respect your opinion, and I think I misunderstood you. You said that the car was heavier if it has KERS. You know that's not true, you just formulated what you wanted to say wrong. You probably wanted say that KERS cars have more weight distributed to the back than non-KERS cars. English is not your first language so I can imagine expressing your thoughts in English doesn't always go well, same goes for me. ;)

We'll see who has predicted right tomorrow. :)

Ferrari/Santander press conference has finished. Here's a translation from Europa press:
Banco Santander will sponsor the Ferrari Formula 1 Ferrari the next five years, with brand presence in the kit cars and the drivers 'Prancing Horse', after sealing today formally agreed at Monza, the scene this weekend week of the Italian Grand Prix, the agency said today.

The bench headed by Emilio Botin was until now the sponsor of the McLaren-Mercedes, which came in 2007 and lasting for three years until 2009, with an option to extend for two more, something that has not happened.

In addition, Santander will continue to be title sponsor of the Grand Prix of Italy, Britain and Germany, and maintain a very significant presence in Spain, Europe and Brazil.
The NobleF1 feed reports Santander will be Ferrari's main sponsor. There was apparently no mention to Alonso, who is backing Renault's focus on the 2010 car, which sounds to me as if he's going to be there a little longer. Because if he was leaving, wouldn't he want constant updates to keep him as competitive as possible?
