It's mixed between KERS and non-KERS cars even on the second practice... I think we could have a very close qualifying tomorrow :)

My guess on pole would be either one of the McLaren or a Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen.... Sutil could be somewhere in the top 10 if things goes right... BMW is looking strong too and I would guess Heidfeld in the top 10... The others, hard to say but the RBR are playing nice this weekend :p

That's kind of a long shot but I wouldn't be surprised that Sutil cracks Q3.

Luizzi? Maybe Q3 but I don't think he'll go anywhere passed Q2.

For Ferrari's starting grid,

Kimi: 4th
Fisi: 8th

as long as sutil can not crack under pressure he should be able to get into Q3 no problem and a pole is within the reach of Force indias car. but can he put it all together like fisi did last race
 
Oops, Fisi just binned it in Paraboilca in practice.

The thing is that Malboro don't really need their name shown: the barcode has become synonymous with the brand. People know exactly what it is, even if it's never explicitly stated.

Tobacco sponsorship has gradually been phased out. I'm pretty sure it's being banned outright as of 2011..... They didn't do it straight away because they've only just come into power at Ferrari, and it was more important that they concentrate on running the team than finding new sponors.

As far as I know, Phillip Morris are integral to Ferrari's sponsorship. The $200 million or whatever they pay is for rights to the whole car. PM, then sell the advertising space. So, in effect, PM are responsible for the deal with Santander.

As stated, the barcode is indeed synonymous with Marlboro, and theoretically, in it's current state, PM could continue to spearhead Ferrari's sponsorship beyond 2011. In he Ad industry at the moment, there is a lot of buzz and thought about how to deal with the (potential in some cases) banning of tobacco and drinking advertising in general. I've seen some rather interesting and downright intelligent ideas that could potentiall keep PM's position safe and sound.

PM wouldn't deal with Santander if it threatened their own position, and hence they are small fry in the equation. Ferrari and Phillip Morris are very close, I personally, see them being close long after 2011.

Looks like whatever was happening yesterday was just a phase. I have to laugh at Christian Horner's proclamation that Webber and Vettel stand a chance of snatching the championship away from Button, they're currently languishing once more down in the tail end. I know practice times count for little, but you generally know who is doing well by the end of the practice sessions nd Red Bull haven't seen higher than ninth all weekend. In fact, the're backpedalling ...

If tobacco sponsorship is banned outright, it will be banned in all its forms. Ferrari wouldn't be able to run the barcode because of what it represented. If the money were to come from Philip Morris, there is no way they could run anything related to them.

You'd be surprised at some of the ideas ad agencies are floating at the moment to get around this. I'm just putting it out there that the 2011 ban can be worked around, and that Philip Morris (in some form) will still be around after.

Besides, the barcode doesnt officially link back to Philip Morris anyway, no matter how synomymous people have made it. ;)

Well yeah, it can be worked around, but Ferrari would be in serious trouble if they were accepting money for sponsorship space from Philip Morris or any company owned by them (unless it was for a non-smoking product) after the ban. You think that if they cleverly work their way around the ban, they'll be able to do what they want? No chance. If a Philip Morris product is associated with their cars, drivers, team or otherwise, they'll be in trouble. The fact that it's there at all makes any argument for clever marketing moot.

Changing my predictions slightly.

Hamilton for the win, Kovalainen to make it a one-two, Raikkonen will get a Ferrari podium, and Sutil, judging by his performance in practice will get 4th (with no Raikkonen strking like last year's Monaco), Alonso fifth, Barrichello sixth, Vettel seventh (surely he can get through a race without a engine failure, can't he?) and Button will be eighth.

And while you're at it, how about offering an explanation for this: let's say there's a blanket ban on any and all tobacco and tobacco-related sponsorship starting next year. Ferrari show up in Melbourne carrying Philip Morris branding. How do you explain why they are carrying banned tobacco advertising in such a way that they escape without penalty?
 
Incredible performance by Force India once again, major thumbs up for Liuzzi as well to take the car directly into Q3 after a while of not driving an F1 car 👍

Here's to hoping Raikkonen won't take Sutil out for a third time...

Raikkonen only took Sutil out once though, its impossible for him to take sutil out a third time.

Ofcourse we'll have to see which fuel loads everyone has in a couple of hours. Brawn will be heavy like they said I think, so it will be exciting to see where they will com out when Kimi and Hamilton have done their pitstops. Kimi will be 2nd right after the start, but I don't think he can touch Hamilton. Kovalainen will have a little of a gap to Kimi I think, and then after Kova Sutil, victim of the KERS cars starts.

Yeah not really a bad guess but BMW could have been up there if that engine didn't spoil the day... What a sad day for them :(

Anyway, let's just hope for tomorrow and I guess non-KERS cars can still fight up there and McLaren could still take the win... FI could even be on podium.. BOTH OF THEM???

Phillip Morris "donate" a large amount of money to Ferrari.Ferrari turn up in their barcode livery. It doesn't matter how symbolic it is, the barcode isn't actually PM branding. How do "prove" that the barcode is tobacco related?
 
Liuzzi is majorly impressive after we have seen so many old and new drivers come into this season and struggle in Q1, the Force India is a fast car, but then so is the Ferrari and look where Badoer and Fisico are.
I'd always thought of Liuzzi being a good driver but nothing special judging by his Toro Rosso days and his mediocre A1GP results, but clearly he's got a lot more going for him. Great job all round, unfortunately Sutil has Raikkonen right behind him :scared:

Brawn have a lot of smiles, claiming high fuel loads. If so, great job and great to see Jenson finally ditching all that bad luck.
Red Bull really sucking, and their championship chances are slipping away. I think if Brawn do win both championships, it will be their rivals inability to make the most of their mid-season advantage which will be cited as the cause.
Hopefully they can bring it back, but I think it will be a title battle between Rubens and Jenson come Abu Dhabi.

Brawn may be in for the win if they are indeed on a good 1-stopper and they don't get nailed in the first lap. They also look safe if there is a change in weather mid-race.

Hmm, but he's not known for his race pace though....we will have to see.

Hamilton is potentially on a horrible strategy, he may very easily be jumped in the pits if he can't build a decent gap. I don't get why McLaren tried to do that with him, he has KERS - why run a light strategy on a track which favours KERS and allows overtaking? He would have been far better off going heavy and doing what Kovy did.
 
If the one stoppers can keep up with the top three, then I can't see any of the two stoppers scoring even one point. If they can get away at the start though....
 
If it doesn't rain it's between Hamilton, Sutil, Kimi and Heikki.

Brawn won't pass Heikki in a straight line so if he's slow then they will be stuck behind him and the top 3 will go off in to the distance.
