-> I love the overall profile of the car; but they kinda screwed up the rear:

:yuck:

Certainly don't agree with the black stripe across the back, but otherwise, it's fine.

Wow. Its not as gut bustingly awful as I expected. Its actually...alright. Hm. The rear end is a mess, though.

I'm skeptical that these are real. Just the placement of the badges on the rear are so bad that I have a hard time believing any respectable car company would even consider it. The black extension thing to the rear window is such a bad idea I've never even seen tuner guys do it. The rear end looks so very Korean anyway. When something looks Korean that generally means it's horrible. There's absolutely no congruency between the front and rear ends, and that's important, because when elements flow throughout a car's design then it looks like a pro did it, instead of a 10 year old. If they had designed the rear as well as the front, and as well as the XF, they'd have scored a 10.

If these pictures are real then I feel very sorry for Jaguar, because they have just failed miserably.

I was sure I saw a profile like this before...

After 5 minutes in photoshop, I discovered the reason:

It's a freakin' korean rip-off!!! Just "stretch" a Hyundai Azera and you get a new XJ!

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

That's a Jaguar? Really?

The big blocky grille looks way out of place on this new sleek design they have.

The rear? Oh my... Where did they get inspiration for those taillights? The XF's looked ripped off an Aston but they at least looked good. This had better look awesome in person. I get the impression that this is the sort of car that looks atrocious in pictures but then actually looks pretty good in the metal.

I'm sure that on the road, they look absolutely nothing alike. You're going by general similarities in shapes, but IRL the Jaguar is probably twice as huge. I doubt they will look or feel at all the same.

Kind of a shock considering the drop-dead gorgeous designs of the current XK and XF...

The front is sex, but only because it is straight from the XF concept (which amazes me really, for they stated many times that they could not use that gorgeous headlight design because of the excessive costs involved). But apart from that, the design is utter kack.

Well Jaguar asked for them to be removed off some websites so they must be real.

The back end is a bit messy but the rest of it looks great. And if the XF is anything to go by it'll waltz all over it's rivals.

Re: The Hyundai comparison...

Err.... no.

I love the way it looks, the only thing I'd change is I'd finish the rear lights off further down the back of the boot. It looks very sleek and sophisticated IMO.

I seriously dont get what is up with Jag at the moment, they always seem to be designing half the car! The rear of this XJ is hideous.

Basically this car has the front the XF should have had...

...and the XJ should have the rear that the XF had!
;)

It was a real let down when the XF's front made the transition from concept to production and it seems now they have got the look they wanted perfectly on the XJ, then they got lazy and tried to do some wierd Bentley / Maserati rear but failed miserably.

The XF rear is probably the most beautiful and simple rear Ive ever seen on a car, this just looks cheap like some budget brand estate car.

Also alot of this car's side profile is a Quattroporte (not that thats a bad thing), just look at the comparision, there is also alot of BMW 3 series in there from this angle.

I think the XF looks absolutely fantastic - it's one of the most cohesive saloons for many years.

I definitely see the Quattroporte similarity though - I was thinking that before but couldn't place which car seemed similar.

That's what i was thinking, too. Hopefully they give their car more power for all that weight.

See, I told you it looked Korean.

As a matter of fact, Hyundai should build that stretched thing that you came up with fporto_br. It looks better than the Jaguar, that's for sure! The rear of this Jag sags like a 90 year old person's skin. Terrible, ugly, terrible.

This.

Well, not only that but... HOW CAN YOU CALL THAT AN XJ?

41 years of very distinct "Hey, that's an XJ" styling and then they go and do this.

Fission mailure.

^Ah, the problem.

The fact is, we may as well have expected this. Jaguar is eschewing their "heritage." I mean the auto transmissions have gone from J-gate to dial knob. The radically different XF was a warning of this: it was Jaguar's CTS, the vehicle which would define the brand from then forward. Let's face it, Jaguar's attempting to move forward from being a stodgy British make to being cutting-edge luxury again.

I'm not gonna cry over the old one. It looked twenty years old when it was new.

The only thing I can knock this one for is being as close to a Maserati Quattroporte as Copyright Infringement will allow.

^Indeed, I like that they are finally making actual new designs (and generally good ones, at least in my opinion with the XK and XF), you only have to look at 911's to see how an image can get insanely boring.

However, I'm not so sure I like this...I'm kind of two minds about the backend. I like it, but not as an XJ, this probably should have been the XF and maybe used the XF backend on a more traditional XJ front-shape.

Now see, the interior is interesting and different in a good way. Look at the wraparound dash, the details in that leather stitching, the polish on the chrome, the texture and lighting on those HVAC vents.

But the rear end is just...it's just......what is the DEAL with those D-pillars? What a terrible idea!

Autoblog says it looks best in black, citing that color specifically because it gets rid of the retarded D-pillar conundrum.

EDIT: After reading about all the badass features this car is packed with, I'm starting to care less about the crazy black pillars. Not every car is perfect I suppose.

+1

I think the old one looked great (always did... well, until the very very last variant with a heavy-handed treatment that made it look like a grandad in trainers) but Jaguar needs to do new things. The XF is a million times better for it's modern styling than the retro S-Type was and in the same way, the new XJ needs to break away from the rut caused by years of making cars that look the same.

I'd be interested to see what a possible X-Type replacement would look like.

Now that is how you do interiors. The attention to detail there is stunning.

I see they borrowed some styling hints from a Conti GT on the rear 3/4 view.
The front looks like a Mondeo, just like the previous.

Interior is good though. Nearly makes up for the outside.

I really like that interior. The wood wraparound thing below the windshield looks a bit 90s but everything else looks so great that I don't even care.

Great looking car from the front and side, but as others have mentioned, the rear does need some work.
