I can't decide between ": D" and ": )".

I think the car's only faults are how tall the ends look. This is probably due up front to there being no upper grille and the badge being on the front (versus on top of the hood... yeah). I can't wait to see it in Chicago and on the streets.

That's the happiest looking car ever. Can't wait for the Mazdaspeed version!

HUUUUUUUUUGE Maw.

It's almost cute, yet almost crazy. I think it has emotional issues.

Ugh... the pics in the first post were really good and then this. Mazda? What's with the double chin? Why didn't you leave the front alone like in the first post!? 👎:grumpy:

Edit: Oh, actually... it's the angle on the pic in the first post. It doesn't look as bad. But in the "real" pic it's bad.

I like the headlights and Taillights a lot though. Need smoked versions though.

I want to love this car (duh, I’m a current M3 owner), and it mostly does well for itself, but that awful grille…
+1. I'm not sure what it's trying to eat, but it must be big. The back end is not winning me over, either, but the 5-door version should take care of that :D. Unless it looks hideous, the next Mazdaspeed3 will be parked outside my place the instant it goes on sale ;).

The tail lamp units look like they were designed by three teams of obsessive-compulsive designers.

Overall, different, but not bad: It has a certain Happy Happy, Joy Joy-quality to it.

The Hatch Is Back

I find that less offensive than the sedan...

The rear lights look better on the hatchback. But I have a feeling these pictures make it look better than it actually is.

Still waiting for that Mazdaspeed!
Hmm found pics of it testing at the Nurb. Looks pretty badass. Liking the STi-ish wide fenders. Here's to hoping it'll get awd and the Turbo 2.5l 5cyl from the Focus RS!!!

Is there a problem with having another Rally Car out there? Gr. N is the exclusive domain of Subaru and Mistubishi. No reason Mazda couldn't give it a try.

But would Mazda put the money into an AWD system? I'd imagine that the next MS3 will be much the same as the last one when it comes to how the power is put down. The car was probably not designed for an AWD system, and I can't imagine Mazda spending money to put one in.

Now the SX-4, there is an Wrex competitor.

I wouldn't be surprised if the MS3 had the Focus RS's engine and front suspension. Neither would it surprise me to see the same setup as the older car, maybe tweaked a little for a few more ponies.

I would like to see some gear from the Focus RS in the Mazdaspeed6 though.

That must be the coolest looking sedan coming to the U.S.A at under $20,000 👍👍

feel free to find another compact sedan and prove me wrong though ;)

Well, they could just yank the awd system from the MS6 plus Mazda 3's in Japan did have optional awd.

Yeesh!

Well, thats the new Mazdaspeed3, no word on what overall changes we can expect. It still uses the 2.3L turbocharged engine, but thats about it.

I'll say it again: I don't like the "teeth guard" look.

...And Then There is This Little Bugger...

Jalopnik
But first, let's talk about the more eco-friendly Mazda3. The i-Stop is designed to be a fuel miser, with the MZR 2.0 Direct Injection Spark Ignition engine with Mazda's i-stop system, which pulls off stop/start duties to save gas. The result is a 12% increase in fuel economy over the standard model.

I'll take that, seems like a decent idea. If it works, I'll bank on the i-Stop showing up in Ford products in the not-too-distant future.

I love everything else about the car, but I can't get around the front end still.

Also, what's with the hood scoop?

I know, its soooooooo Need For Speed Underground....

^^^ Yet at the same time the rear on the old generation car looks so good still...

I very much like this new MS3. They've done a lot to make the grille look a bit less awkwardly smiley. But that hood scoop is a bit much I think. It kind of almost looks like an upper grille, which is something that shouldn't be on the hood.

Bonnet scoop = front mounted intercooler? I do not like the grille, but the rest looks pretty good.

If it wasn't for the grill and hood scoop the new MS3 would be pretty hot. Same goes for the grill on the normal 3's. Maybe someone will make some nice aftermarket front bumpers....
Although, I wonder why they don't do a MS3 sedan. I prefer the sedan styling of my '05 3 over the styling of the wagon.
