The old MS3 drew air for the TMIC through the hood by way of a bulge made specifically for that purpose, the new one has no upper grill and therefore, the scoop.
I was waiting to see the 2010 Mazdaspeed 3... but it turns to be quite an disappointment for me. It uses the exact same engine (thought they would have increased the displacement to 2.5) and everything else is virtually the same. I was hoping for an AWD version...
The difference is cosmetic and I believe the gearing was changed but nothing major.
I was waiting for it's release before deciding if I should wait for it or pick up a 2009 Mazdaspeed 3 GT. Now i'm leaning toward just picking up an 09 MS3... good thing is the pricing will go down prior to the release of the 2010s. I already got quoted a pretty good deal.
Most Mazda dealers still have '09 models on the lot, and that's the way I'd go. I think both the exterior and interior look quite a lot better, and in fact, they even feel better by comparison. Sure, underneath its still essentially the same car - a good car at that, but they've otherwise ruined what was a class leading car powered by awesome.

Yup 09 are going for a steal! You just gotta shop around.
There is a very high chance i'm going to buy a red 09 Mazdaspeed 3 GT with auto dimming/homelink/compass mirror for 23.6K driveout which is about 2K under invoice . And this isn't even the best deal I could find. Just the closest.
There is a dealer in flordia who would let it go for 23K even driveout which is an amazing 2600 under invoice. However I went against this because the cost of transporting it will be a wash anyways.
