Stefan apparently started the S-01 up for the first time in Cologne today.

This was rumoured a few days ago at the same time as the USF1 rumours, so lets see what happens next.
Now we have a re-grouping Campos and a Stefan team that is preparing....the pressure is on USF1 more than ever.

Doesn't sound like any of these 3 teams are going to make the final tests at Barcelona though, so we are all set for a dramatic Bahrain GP! 2 properly prepared new teams and 3 unknowns!
 
Interesting they mention they're still searching for extra funding to ensure they're on the grid for round 1. They still look to be in a far better place than usf1 regardless. Meanwhile stefan and his "toyotas" are ready to go, seemingly have known something we didn't the whole time. If say stefan makes it I wonder if they would have considered takuma sato had he not gone to indycars instead of nakajima who has been mentioned. Hate to say it, but I'd rather see villeneuve in a car rather than usf1 barely eke their way through a 2010 season.:guilty:

Will they still be called Campos? Or is it Carabante from now on? It's nice to know that no matter what we'll still have a 26 car grid this year, if/when USF1 pull out Stefan GP ought to fill that slot.

No idea, but I doubt it, it appears Campos himself may no longer be involved.

I think its safe to say that the Finnish have a great sense of humour in general, Mika and Kimi were legends for it too ;)

Colin Kolles has sad the team name will be changed, but he gave no indication as to wht it might be. He said it might be "Spanish-American", which lends a hell of a lot to the reports that Chad Hurley migh be investing in the team. 'Campos' needs money, which Hurley has, as does USF1 refugee Jose Maria Lopez.

USF1 have apparently applied to the FIA to be allowed to start the season in Spain. It's the first time the team have admitted issues.

As for Campos, since the team is being run by Kolles and Cabarante, I wouldn't mind seeing a team name like Kolles & Cabarante Racing.

So "KCR" or "KC Racing" then? I wouldn't mind that, I think everyone should use surnames because it gives the team lasting identity, rather than a sponsor name or a manufacturer name who can easily disappear within years.
Even better if the team can think of a nice way to use the names of personnel to make the team name (like Arrows). Tyrrell, Ferrari, Williams, McLaren, Minardi, Sauber...all unique names that give off different personalities.

As for the USF1 mess, the autosport article had a pretty revealing quote:

They didn't "forget", they said ages ago they would plan to test on GP2 tyres, its only recently they attempted to get F1 tyres.
I think Bridgestone are talking rubbish about not being able to deliver tyres so quickly unless Stefan didn't inform them. Possibly a sign of political maneuvering from the FIA.
 
The article says Bridgestone is only contracted to supply F1 tires to championship entrants. So unless Stefan GP can somehow get their foot in, they're getting nothing.

By the way SM, its Stefan not Stephan. The team is named after its owner - Zoran Stefanovitch.

Crikey - chill out - I was just trying to purvey the news in a humourous manner... - and if they planned on doing it on GP2 tyres - why didn't they just use them - instead of canning it completely when they couldn't get any F1 tyres?

Ferrari's view on the new 2010 teams, as reported by autosport.com, is very interesting, to say the least ....

On Campos Meta:
"As for the twelfth team, Campos Meta, its shareholder and management structure has been transformed, according to rumours which have reached the Horse Whisperer through the paddock telegraph, with a sudden cash injection from a munificent white knight, well used to this sort of last minute rescue deal.
However, the beneficiaries of this generosity might find the knight in question expects them to fulfil the role of loyal vassal. All this means, it is hard to imagine the Dallara-designed car showing its face at the Catalunya Circuit, with Sakhir a more likely venue to witness the return of the Senna name to a Formula 1 session."

2 - Ardius, you like teams to have personality, and specifically you like Ferrari to be truly italian. I guess you must read this and think: Oh yeah ... no more Todt/Brawn/Schumi brainy team, this is Luca's territory!" ;)
 
Really good article over at Autosport. It seems USF1's problem is not Peter Windsor, but Ken Anderson. Windsor has been trying and failing to get sponsorship through no fault of his own - Anderson is having each and every decision run through his office first in order for it to be verified. This has created a bottleneck, which means that the team has fallen behind. They have no car, so they cannot get sponsorship. No sponsorship means no money. No money means no materials and no pay for the staff, which in turn leads to there being no-one to build the car. The team knew it was in trouble in December, but Windsor and Anderson didn't acknowledge it until February. Senior people in the team now think that if the team is going to be saved, it will be Chad Hurley who saves it. It seems that the reports of Hurley's people in Europe were not about him investing in another team, but of him trying to acquire a chassis.

However, with such fundamental mis-management, one has to wonder whether Hurley isn't too disilluioned with it all to save USF1.
 
I doubt it. Hurley has been with this project practically from the start - it's his basically. If anything major happens, it'll be Anderson getting replaced with someone with actual experience in F1 to move the project forward.

Well, looking at the public registry of the team - I don't have a link, sorry - Hurley isn't actually in charge of anything. He's putting the money up, but I'm pretty sure his arrangement is limited-liability. That said, if the USF1 staff feel strongly enough about it, I can't see there being much to prevent them from rising up and ousting Anderson and Windsor with industrial action.

Yes, finally Ferrari are back to being the team I enjoyed back in the early 90s :D
Now they have a Mansell-esque character in Alonso too, as well as a nice(r) paint job (though I would far prefer black highlights than white). Just need the gold wheels back now.

Its clearly become a matter of days now for USF1...
