Are Holden doing a Crewman version of the new Ute? If so, this would be pretty straight forward.

Probably, here is the start point:

The Pontiac will remain a two-door, the GMC version will definitely be a four-door.

Keep in mind kiddies: Your local Buick, Pontiac, GMC dealer has to effectively function as a single "brand" out there.

Ya it's cool buy I'm willing to bet this thing will not sell well here in America. People either want a truck or a car, not the love child of the two. I honestly don't see a huge use for these other then by people who want to give up their Subaru Baja and get something less ugly and newer.

Couldn't name it (U.S. residents only! Argh!), but I would have submitted either, "Cabalos", or "Warlock G8", after the 1976-79 light truck.

I think they're expecting to sell fewer than 15,000 a year here in the US. So, at least from where I'm standing, those numbers seem achievable. Thing is, they're only offering the V8 in it, and its only RWD.

But, considering that it could (and probably will) replace the GMT355 trucks, I'm all for it. Just needs a V6 and a diesel V8 option...

A lot of people will want a truck yet won't be able to afford a full-on pickup. The whole crossover thing is going well on the SUV side of things, I see no reason why this will be all that different.

From an enthusiast's perspective, I see the "it's neither a truck or a car" side as well. I know I wouldn't buy one if I was in the market.

If Americans don't buy this then that solidifies my dislike of them as a car buying entity. This is just epic awsome. I don't care what anyone says, Pontiac grille or not this is just pure automotive sex. I want one. More than the G8.

I've said it over and over: The only reason they stopped building the El Camino was that they stopped producing rear-drive cars. They're still immensely popular out here in Cornfield Central.

They could sell that entire run HERE, and not have a problem.

I still don't see a use for this in America.

I called it the WarChief. :D

I'm not telling what I named it. I want it all to myself! :D

I called it the WarChief. :D

Open to contestants 18 or older, thanks for playing.

:p

But that's a good name. 👍 It has a nice ring to it. It's like the Warlock, but without the cheesy gold paint and chrysler unreliability.

I named it the El Pendejo

I think a lot of Americans would at least want the cockpit extended back another foot or so for inside storage.

It's a truck! Put a box in the back and store stuff in there. 👍

The G8 ST for people who have a job requiring halling gear around but still want a fast and fun car for the weekend.

The GMC 4-door Ute for the same job (typically tradies) but have a family too.

These Utes are about multi-tasking.

Those bottom of the range, one-ton work utes with a separate tray are used for working with loads and shifting large items, but not this. Yes, It can… and thats mainly what it’s built for… but people still don’t do it, because instead they are primarily used as a fashion accessory. And I’m all for that… I think Maloo R8's, SS-Vs, FPVs, and G8 utes are brilliant :).

By the way, It’s safe to say you’ve all lost this competition… because I’ve come up with a brilliant name for it. The Pontiac Nullarbor... Oh yes :sly:

Some companies use them for work utes, electrical companies and the like, but mostly people buy them- as you said- as "fashion accessories" (I would use a different term, sport car maybe?).

Smaller companys and tradesmen tend to buy these utes that use them as a stylish work vehicle, larger companys that just want a practical work vehicle generally buy work utes with a flat seperate tray, like Hilux's, ford flat utes etc.

Holden Rodeos. :sly: GM has to be an option for me.

Rodeo, well yet another rebadged car. (Isuzu)

I always wondered if Rodeo was a rebadge. Oh well, it's Isuzu's job to make that kind of vehicle and I haven't heard bad things about Rodeos so I trust them. Most bush boys recommend a Hilux, Cruiser or Rodeo.

Well Yes, to be fair, Isuzu do make quality commercial vehicles, they (Rodeo) are a good vehicle from what I have seen/heard.

no sale.
1. it's a PONTIAC
2. it screams Holden clone
3. it screams Honda clone
4. El Camino/Caballero fans will be offended
5. TRUCK fans will be offended
6. pontiac fans will be REALLY offended.

I don't think you get how it works.
1. Pontiac is cool
2. GM globalise
3. No Honda in history is like this.
4. El Camino fans will rejoice they finally have car-based Ute for sale again.
5. Truck "fans" are rednecks most of the time and no one cares about their opinion
6. Why? Pontiac fans are getting a list of good performance cars, they should also be happy.

Which was a rebadged Honda Passport....or was it the other way around?

People in America do not see Pontiacs as cool because they made crap for so long. It's what your parents drive before they get a Buick. Most people still think of Grand Ams and Sunfires.

The Ridgeline is basically the same thing, just higher off the ground with AWD.

El Camino fans will hate it because it's not a Chevy.

Truck fans are not rednecks and that is a stereotype, most people who buy trucks work in construction of some sorts. The other people are outdoors types that go fishing or hunting on the weekend...something the Ute can not do. It's to low to go off road very much and I can't imagine the tow rating it high since it's more or less a car with a truck bed.

I still see many people my age driving Grand Ams...and Grand Prixs. Besides, their current dealer lineup doesn't have any of those cars, other than the GP, which is put out of it's misery this year.

and it "Pretends" to be a full-size truck. If it had a V8, it could pull it off, but Honda hates V8s. The G8 ST or whatever does not pretend to be anything other than what it is. Oh. V8.

El Camino fans will hate it because it's not a Chevy.

You honestly think it matters to them where their Ute comes from? Hell, they had a GMC version, for awhile...and don't you forget the Ranchero.

This is true, but rarely is that that a 1/2 ton vehicle. those tend to be 3/4 and 1-ton trucks.

You'd be surprised: those Aussies could probably get a tow rating in line with some of the smaller pickups, perhaps the lower end of the Full-size scale. No, it's not gonna go offroad, It's not meant to. It's a musclecar with a bed. by this logic, the original El Camino shouldn't have sold well, but it did. It was not the most practical of vehicles, (That was back when trucks were PRACTICAL.) but it worked for those of us who wanted one. And, the Chevelle (when it was actually a good car) outsold it, that's no secret. The El Camino was a niche car, just like the G8...whatever it'll be called.

Besides, the G8 Sedan just isn't "Crazy" enough for some people. This is.

Which is why I said people still think of those cars when they hear Pontiac.

It's probably the one of best truck I have driven and I have driven all (not every variation mind you) full/mid sized trucks. It's a tad underpowered if you are pulling something really heavy but the manual tells you not to do that. I loved it and if it wasn't stupidly expensive I would have had a look at one. I wouldn't really call it full sized though, it's more on par with a Tacoma and Dakota.

Yes it matters, these are the same people who bitched about how the GTO didn't pay homage to it's forefather.

The engine will be fine with pull something, it's the suspension that won't be. Hell my car can haul a trailer but I wouldn't ever dream of it because the rear suspension and the brakes would hate me for it.

I just can't see people lining up to buy a sport truck thing that is really a car, it will go the way of the SSR, cool idea but not anything anyone really wants.

You know, joey, you are incredibly practical, trying to talk about a car that isn't. That's why you like that CUV with a bed. I can see why you don't get the G8. This one, at least, will have muscle to back it's looks up (Which is where the SS/R failed, as it was a TrailBlazer rebodied) and will be somewhat more practical than the SS/R.

I don't know about lining up. Perhaps they will for the first few weeks, but I also don't see these sitting on lots, especially at G.M.'s low production rate. It'll tow a Carav...err, camper trailer at a good pace, and could probably match the Ridgeline pound for pound in that area, but It's true purpose?

Well, how many people use their Ram SRT-10s like trucks? SVT Lightnings? Silverado SS?

I don't get the G8 truck thing because I see no point to it. GM would be stupid to dumb the GMT355's in favour of it since a Colorado can be had for what? $15,000 base? The G8 sport truck would probably start around $27,000 with the smaller motor.

I don't see many Lightnings any more, but the SRT-10 Ram and Silverado SS I see all the time pulling trailers or down at Home Depot putting sheet rock in the bed. People use them like a truck, but it might be a bad comparison because they probably work for GM or Chrysler and just take the truck on the weekend.

Uh, okay. Guess I was wrong on that point.

I did just get Holden's figures for Payload in the bed.

For the SS, (What the G8 ST will be) it's 617kg (1360 lbs) Manual, and 597 (1316 lbs) for the Auto. Interestingly, the SV6 and Omega models have higher payloads.

Also just found a 1600kg (3527lb) Tow Package.

Pontiac Arapaho.

You can have that for free, US residents. :D
