Was planning on getting a 2011 Mustang GT once my FJ Cruiser was paid off (which happened in December). But just got a nice raise at work, so now thinking about a GT500.

Looked at base Vettes but I didnt like the interior and they just weren't comfortable to me. Also considered a used 911 but the power just isn't there for the non turbo. Drove a G37S also, again, not enough power.

Currently looking at a no option model, Grabber blue with white stripes, should be able to get it for invoice which is about 45k.

Any other ideas? I'm 6'6" so interior space is an issue. I've already decided against the camaro and challenger, I like the mustang better than either.

A regular mustang GT and then slap a pro charger on it isn't completely off the table, but doing so would basically flush the power train warranty down the toilet, which I don't really like the idea of. Also once I get the options I want on the GT and add $5500 for the charger I'm starting to get uncomfortable close to the Shelby in price.

I think he wants power. But if you want a great car to drive, I would also suggest the Boss 302. At the end of the day, you don't go wrong with a Mustang. Awesome looks, lots of power, and yet affordable.

Spend $32k on a Mustang GT. Have the rest to do what you want with mods. They love basic bolt-ons.

I'm not really very interested in a Boss. One because the better handling isn't really that useful on the street and I doubt I'll ever be running my car at Laguna Seca (or anywhere similar) and two, five grand under MSRP for a GT500 is a way better deal than five grand over for a boss. Also, 3, the Boss is essentially built on the base model car (even has the four gauge cluster instead of the 6), while the Shelby is a premium. I'm buying a street car, not a track car, I want those goodies.

Do it!! Nothing more intoxicating than power and the sweet wine of a supercharger.....

Get the GT500 there awespme cars

Get a Boss. GT500 is junk in comparison.

Look at this comparison that Edmunds did:

The GT500 with the track pack is faster than the Boss Laguna Seca. The chassis is pretty much sorted out on both cars. The new 5.4 block is alumminum so the weight difference is minimal and you get 110 hp extra hp with the GT500.

Dang, you could'a had the ZL1 instead :p, oh well, in your power/$ bracket the GT500 is probably the best you could want.👍 Rumour has it an 800hp version is on its way.
What does a CTS-V Coupe go for?

1) 800hp Shelby is the Super Snake = $$$$

2) CTS-V Coupe = Ugly :yuck:

Get the CTS-V wagon, possibly the coolest American car ever.

'91 Fox body. Then whatever the hell you want to throw at it.

Actually, depends on what you want. If you want a trackday ripper, get the Boss. if you want a very fast car that's still quite comfortable, get a GT500. It's really a GT3/Turbo thing, with the Laguna Seca package being the GT3RS.

Zero to fast in a damn hurry.

Since you're man enough to consider a G37 slow, you should probably get the GT500. Just don't hit a tree.

He already stated he wants a fast street car, not a dedicated track car.

Get the GT500.

GT500. You may as well.

A Procharged GT would match it in a straight line but you throw less than a grand at a GT500 and suddenly everything dies.

Well if money isn't a definitive factor, go for a Caddy CTS-V coupé. Many people around are pointing it as an ugly car, which it definetely isn't.

Has lots of power and a very nice interior.

It does have an uncanny resemblance to '80s sports liftbacks from the back, though. AE86, Accord, Sierra, Fox Mustang, etc...

Well, for that price, you could get 996 Turbo..

I thought about it, but there's a lot more to the cost of a car than the purchase price. For one, I doubt you're going to get 3.02% financing on an eight year old Porsche, probably not going to be able to get the same term length either, so that would drive the payments sky high. Also maintenance and repairs and I'm guessing insurance as well are all going to be a LOT higher. I love 911s, but I just don't think it's the car for me right now.

I think real low 50s is probably my limit, otherwise the Caddy would be on my list. Even the used prices that I'm seeing are around 60, and I'm pretty leery of buying a 1 year old super high performance car. Money is definitely a factor, which is one of the reasons I'm still considering a 11/12 GT 5.0, which would be a little more reasonable expenditure and payment-wise. I can definitely afford either, and I make a pretty good living, but I'm not loaded or anything. The smart thing to do would be buy neither and bank the payment, but I'm a car guy, and sometimes being a car guy comes takes precedence over being a smart guy. :)

Since I haven't bought anything yet, I still could. But I test drove an SS at the same time I test drove GTs and I hated the interior on the Camaros. That combined with the fact that the ZL1 will probably be getting prices over MSRP probably puts the ZL1 out of the running. And it's not enough to really sway me either way, but I do like rewarding Ford for 1. not letting their pony ever die and 2. not getting bailed out by the government.

I'm not one for American cars but I was watching spike one day and they had a turbo kit for the camaro SS and it boosted it an extra 100 HP. I see you dont like the interior but if raw performance is what you are looking for than I would go for this. You can always customize the interior to your personal liking but this is your decision, just do what you like and fits you ;). I was extremely impressed with the kit too, intercooler and hose clamps and even a catch can and everything included with the kit for a very low price for the quality kit they sold. Here's the thing though with your choices; you can buy the $35,000 (around that much) SS and a $2-4000 turbo kit and have as much HP as the the GT500 mustang which is around $50-55000. I would go for the camaro. personally I think it looks better too. You should broaden your vehicle search for the money you have. How about a used GTR? :)
