Surely this is the track to break Red Bulls pole stranglehold or have I spoken too soon again :sly:. Hamilton seems to think he was running more fuel than the Red Bulls, hope that is the case.

Pirelli's camber recommendations are now mandatory. Any team running camber settings outside the recommended range will be reported to the stewards under Article 2.3 of the technical regulations (dangerous construction), and will risk exclusion from the race.

Was hard to tell from practice, although both McLarens seemed to do a lot of running with zero DRS.
 
One suspects Hamilton is playing a little fast and loose with the truth given that he was 0.036s behind Vettel.

Not necessarily, perhaps he was referring to their respective heavy fuel load runs, which obviously aren't represented in the times.
 
Hmmm, Vettel pops in the top time again... McLaren are dropping time in Sector 3... The Mercs are strongest in Sector 1... I wonder if they can pull something out in Sector 2? Even if they go down by 0.2s in Sector two, they've got a change for pole... but they are losing .6 instead. Dunno what's going on with Alonso though...
 
So what do you guys think for a top five...I see both Mclarens and RBRs...fifth is looking like an all out battle between the Merc GP and Ferrari.
 
I see a McLaren on pole for some reason... and a Merc in the mix... But Ferrari are falling back for some reason...

I think this shows that McLaren and Red Bull are running higher downforce setups compared to most, so it will be interesting to see the race pace tomorrow. Will they be sitting ducks for the likes of Ferrari to overtake?

If the RBR is as good as it is suppose to be, something like a poor history with monza or bad luck shouldn't stop them this year. I'm a Mclaren fan myself but not sure if they can be on top this weekend. Also as far as Ferrari go, they're doing the usual routine of being all over the place in practice...which usually falls over into the race, with Alonso pulling something out.

Indeed... But RBR are strong in Sector 3, weak in Sector 1... McLaren opposite... Merc are strong in 1 and 3, weak in 2. Ferrari are weak in all 3 to be honest...
Lets see what Q2 and 3 bring... then we can see... I noticed Red Bull have blistering again though... I think Ferrari have the least of the lot, Merc second least, but with the straight line speed in them, they are making full use of this track... Schumi for a podium lol

Dammit! I think Hamilton could have taken it... stupid made a mistake though... can't blame him though. Except he wrecked Schumi's lap too... who was on his tail...
 
Uuuuh, the Tifosi aren't going to be happy at all. It feels great to finally see what Jarno can do in that car. Clearly the brand new power steering is giving him an ease in the car!

He has the best car, he drove it fantasticly so there's no doubt he'll be on the top. A working chemistry... The only way we could see others getting on pole than Vettel is when they have a better overall package than RBR's and Vettel's...

I've just found this, not sure if anybody else has though... Pretty funny read! :lol:

May I just point something out. Buttons last lap that he aborted he was 0.147 up on vettels lap at the end of the second sector, the bbc was following him on camera and he made no obvious mistakes, but then aborted the lap.

What was that all about??????

Nobody really knows. But Button is an intelligent guy - if he felt he had a shot at pole, he would have taken it. Evidently, he didn't. He had his reasons for aborting his lap, even if he didn't broadcast them publicly.

Personally, I don't think he would have made it. A lot of people are making a big deal out of this, probably because they're sick of seeing a Red Bull on pole. If this were the third race of the season instead of the thirteenth, nobody would be making as big a deal about it as they are now.
 
I was watching the qualy on mute. Any particular reason Senna didn't run on Q3?
 
Probably to preserve his tyres. A lot of drivers at the back of Q3 have been doing that this year - they know they can't compete, so they save a set of tyres. And if they don't do a lap in Q3, then they're free to start the race on whatever compound they like. Realistically, Senna was probably looking at eighth or ninth if he went out. And with Rosberg starting on the harder tyres, Senna is pretty much guaranteed to pass him at the start.

Actually Button was 0.182 up after sector one and 0.158 up after sector two. The last sector is the Ascari Chicane, which he attacked hard, and the run to the final corner and to the very short finishing straight.

I have no idea why he pitted. Maybe he made a mistake, or maybe his team told him to pit.

It's puzzling.

It wouldn't have been good enough for Pole but it would have put him up to second on the grid.
 
I'm presuming Button made a mistake through Ascari or Parabolica, or, pretty unlikely, wanted to start on the grippy side.

I think the Mclaren had seen how much faster Vettel was earlier on in the lap and told him to abort as there wouldn't have been much point wasting crucial fuel to not get pole...
 
Button said he lost a tenth at the first corner and carried that through the lap so he pitted.

He's also got a message for Vettel...

 
Alonso has a higher top speed by a considerable amount over the McLaren and Red Bulls. Vettel seems to be running the highest downforce setting, so Alonso could fly past all of them. It will be interesting to see how he does as I think he has a good chance of winning but will the people running more downforce make it work for them? Should be an exciting race tomorrow.

Vettel is running quite low gear ratios I understand so if he doesn't have a second lead over someone he will be a sitting duck, unless he can get good runs out of the second lesmo and the parabolica, which his suspected extra downforce should let him do. This will be very interesting indeed if he is, say, 5 tenths up at the first split which is just coming into the second chicane and two lesmos..:D
 
The McLarens will have better race pace than Red Bull. At least I hope so.
