I'd like to be optimistic but this is making a mountain out of a molehill here. With DRS closed, as it very likely will be, the top speeds will go down slightly, and Vettel will not be on the limiter nearly as long as in qualifying. If RBR thought this was a big deal, I'd think they would've altered the ratio a bit during practice. I don't see the gear making a meaningful difference or preventing Vettel from winning.

I cant belive nobody is commenting about Vettels epic slide!!

That was madness!

The slide was badass, what's amazing though is Vettel was the slowest of anyone through the speed trap, he made a great setup choice.

Vettel was the slowest of anyone through the speed trap.

So does that mean he's going to have trouble with everybody overtake him on the straight? That's worrying...

I have to watch tomorrow! Alonso had the top speed because he was getting a tow from Massa. I think the McLarens could have had pole but would rather suprise the other teams with their pace during the race, i know it sounds very odd but.....
Did anyone see the interview after quali? Both Button and Hamilton said they didn't have the pace to beat the Red Bull, it seemed to me that actually they did. It will mean more pressure in the race for Vettel, Weber and the others if they have.

Any takers for....
1) Hamilton.
2) Button
3) Vettel
4? Erm........Alan Prost

Well, he's on pole position ... what do you think?

Vettel's position hinges on his gear settings. He's recognised that he's not going to be the fastest car in a straight line, and while he could probably perfect his setup to find some speed, the gain would be minimal for the time spent finding it. Instead, he's found speed elsewhere. His sixth and seventh gear ratios are very short, giving him phenomenal acceleration. 80% of the lap at Monza is spent at full throttle, but the Retifillo and della Roggia (and, to a lesser extent, the Parabolica) all require a fair degree of braking. Vettel's strategy hinges on him being able to get out of these corners faster than anyone else.

If Vettel loses 1st into turn 1, he's not going to get it back.

Yeah. He gambled to gain on the exit and through the corners but the loss of almost 10ks on the straight is going to hurt him... Bruno Senna clocked 347km/h while Vettel clocked less than 330km/h my friend told me.

If Vettel loses 1st into turn 1, he's not going to get it back.
And what are the chances of that happening? Vettel will know how important the start is.

Turn 1 is quite complicated in Monza, I believe that the race is all the way for first corner for Vettel, I expect contact, a lot of contact. Maybe Vettel will run with good grip set up for the first run, maybe slicks to compensate any events that might occur in lap one and then go for it, Hamilton will attempt the same, so yeah, contact between them is expected in lap one.

If Vettel loses 1st into turn 1, he's not going to get it back.
Except if he does happen to lose the lead, he has a very good chance at getting the undercut done during the pitstops, just as long as he doesn't get caught in traffic.

I tend to agree with Peter here for once...and Hamilton and Button aren't lazy starters

...and have the best of the KERS systems

..and up to the next chicane. Whoever gets the best drive out of the first chicane is going to have a great tow down to the next overtaking spot. Vettel may feel obliged to empty his kers off the start, if someone else keeps some in store for that next straight and can stick with him through the first chicane, it could get interesting.

Failing that, its Vettel's to lose. He will just ride off into the distance.

Here's how the race will unfold.

Rosberg will be going backwards initially since he is on the harder tyre. He will then start to gain a bit due to him being on fresher soft rubber in the middle. But when the Merc loses it's speed as it always does during the race he will go backwards again and end up fighting for the final points.

Schumi will make a good start and will drive a good and incident free (!) race which will put him in fifth position at the end.

Massa will also be very competitive initially but in the end his own mistakes and continuing bad luck will leave him in seventh position.

Webber will once more completely forget how to start a F1 racer and will be in 12:th position after one lap. He will then driver very very fast and end up fighting for the last podium.

Alonso will lose one position (to Massa) at the start but will retake it when Massa makes a mistake. He will then drive a very uneventful race an end up fighting for the final podium with Webber.

Hamilton makes a good start but without gaining any position. He then get's tangled up with a backmarker when lapping him and has to come in and change nose. He will finish fifth or sixth. (Please note that this is in no way a wish to see Hamilton crash)

Vettel takes the start and quickly builds up a 15 second lead. About midway through the race he, as per normal, starts to lose a bit of pace and his lead is being eaten up by:

Button, who starts in third and keeps that position until Hamilton has his incident. At which point he starts to drive the otherworldy "Buttonlaps" and quickly reels in Vettel. Passes four laps from the finish and wins.

So the result is

Button
Vettel
Webber
Alonso
Schumacher
Hamilton
Massa
Rosberg

Vettel usually has a good start. I think he's only lost at the start in Spain and China, but the long opening straight will hurt him and he's weaker KERS system, if he does keep the lead but can't make up one second or maybe even 1.5 in the opening two laps, then he will have his work cut out and will rely on his downforce and acceleration. This could be a brilliant race!

I think Rosberg will finish 7th ahead of Schumacher. Alonso could have a good chance of winning due to having good top speed. Vettel could fly away into the distance if his setup works in the race as good as it did in qualifying and he makes a decent start.

I was disappointed last year that Hamilton crashed out so early as I wanted to see how his setup would do in the race compared to Button. Hope Vettel does not crash out early as I want to see how he does with the low gearing.

I can't see Alonso winning mainly because of the medium tyres. Rosberg could be in with a shout of a podium if things go his way.

A well timed safety car could save Alonso's chances.

You could say the same for any driver though.

The mclarens are generally slow for the first five laps or so which means that hamilton ends up out of position and has to overtake loads of mid-fielders.

If mclaren get a good start i can see them chalenging red bull for the lead when the drs kicks in ;)

I can't see him winning because he is driving a mediocre F1 car :D

My prediction:

Petrov has a blinder start and pops up into 3rd, behind Vettel and Button. Petrov slowly slides back down the order, but not before effectively ruining the race for the queue of cars behind him.

Button can't match Vettel's pace and moans over the radio "why is there no balance". LH catches Button eventually and takes a distant second from Button.

Webber and Alonso have a race long duel after clearing MSc who has a very good start.

Vettel
LH
Button
Webber
Alonso
MSc
Rosberg
Massa
Petrov

Very excited for this race to begin! After Liverpool's bad result yesterday I need a sporting afternoon I can enjoy.

If LH gets a clean first couple of laps, I can see him challenging for the win, dark horse could be Button. I would be very surprised if a Ferrari isnt on the podium.

But I expect Vettel to win.

It's been awhile since i been here.

Well, imma go for Vettel for the win if he get good start and smooth race for a couple of lap. :D

I predict Webber activating Anti Stall.

ILMC on laptop, F1 on tv... perfect..

WTF! Aloso roll to 1st and big crash!

Crash on turn 1.

F1 is not a drift race.

OMG! Big crash, Hispania, stalled, wheel banging. Sfaety car
