For a race with such a high-tempo start, the second half has been a damp squib.

And I was unfortunate enough to wake up for that very second half, watching the last 12 laps go down, with a Red Bull 1-2, Alonso left for dead, Hamilton retired, Senna in 14th.

Driver of the day: Michael Schumacher. FANTASTIC drive from him, knew what to do and delivered. Now if he managed 1 lap yesterday and started say, 20th... would we have seen him on the podium? I don't doubt it, and I NEVER EVER doubted Michael
Second Driver of the Day: Jenson Button. Worked well, got the job done and pushed when he needed it.

I am loooking forward to seeing Michael at Monza...

Well, the pass of the day has to be Webber's on Alonso through Eau Rogue. That is real racing.

This, as my earlier post states, I can agree with :)👍

Red Bull 1-2!!!!!!! Vettel was the driver of the day, I don't care what anyone says!

Shame for the young guns of the race. Would have been great to see how Bruno and Jaime would've fared had they not collided.

Do note: Schumacher benefitted more from that yellow flag than Button, as Button had pitted for his first set of softs before the flag came out... so Button had to work to counter the virtual positions he lost by already being on the same tires as everyone else...

And notex2: Button had rear wing damage from that first corner melee... and then he lost a front wing as he ran over someone else's detached rear wing... :D

And overtake of the day? Seriously... Button on anybody... but I feel bad about Hamilton's crash... as that overtake on Senna right before the DRS activation zone, allowing him to get past the Williams and utilizing DRS after the overtake should have been brilliant, but it wasn't to be...

Of course, there's something to be said for Rosberg on Vettel... That's something you almost never expect to happen.

How is Vettel driver of the day? Button and Schumacher clearly are more suitable for that title. Schumacher 24th-5th, I swear if he keeps this up, we might see a podium for him sometime soon...

Because, racecar. Fast racecar. Fast Vettel. Vettel has a fast racecar and is fast.

Vettel undoubtedly had a very good drive. Blisteringly fast... good overtaking... and then he made the smart decision to pit under that safety car... then the extra smart decision to match Alonso in the pits despite the team telling him to stay out... (apparently).

But come on... Schumi! Button! Did you see Button's rear wing? He got third place after a shark bit off his rear wing! That's like finishing "only" third in a marathon after a rabid squirrel has latched onto your ankle!

Changing my mind about best overtake... Alonso on Sutil was great... Hamilton on Massa (two wheels on the grass) was great... Button on Massa... gets squeezed nearly off the track, but still makes it... Button on Alonso still stands out as an example of great driving on par with the Button-Hamilton tete-a-tete two seasons ago...

Too many overtakes to choose from!

It's all down to the car, Button clearly had the better racing quality, and Schumacher went from last to 5th, great way to celebrate his 20th anniversary.

JB drove without a right wing mirror all race after it got knocked off in the first corner by Senna's front wing.

Webber on Alonso.

Was wondering if anyone else had noticed that. The commentators didn't. Buemi with the messed up rear wing was funny, he had the DRS activated as well along the straight. He was behind Webber I think, I would have loved to see him go past, just to hear Webber in the interview.

I have seen plenty of passes around the outside of Le Combe in the support races already this weekend, so it is certainly doable. In fact, just as Vettel just did to Alonso.

It is definitely possible. Look at Petrov on Rosberg last year.

I think it's more to do with the RB7. Remember Monaco? The damn 🤬 didn't pit!

:banghead: ... This is the kind of thing I've been talking about. And it just slips under the net.

Hamilton: "The championship wasn't ours anyway." Surprising to hear from him.

I expect a retraction soon. He said something along the lines of this earlier in the season and then apologized to his fans the next day.

Kamui has always been a bit reckless and involved in incidents. Why does he not get criticized but Hamilton does?

Because he doesn't get involved in as many facepalm incidents. And he's in a mid-field car, so is normally running in a very large pack of cars. Unlike the front runners.

Wow. Did not expect a Red Bull 1-2 at spa. Track just hasn't suited them in the past. Happy with the result. Rosberg had a phenomenal start. It's a shame he couldn't get a better result. Beginning to wonder how long it's been since Webber hasn't fluffed up a race start though.

What? I was praising Vettel saying it wasn't him running out the tyres but the RB7.

But most of his incidents come from wheel to wheel racing, not being held up in a pack.

My thoughts from the race:

Fantastic drives from both Schumacher and Button. Heard mention that Button now has the highest number of overtakes of anyone this year - doesn't surprise me at all, and I've been saying for several seasons he's the best overtaker on the grid.

Hamilton vs. Kobayashi: Racing incident. Kob should have probably backed out a little, Hamilton probably should have kept in the middle of the circuit rather than going back to occupy the racing line. I'd agree with the stewards for not giving either a penalty.

Pity Senna got caught out at the start, he clearly had pace this weekend.

Pity Alonso couldn't keep his pace up - I reckoned he was in for a win at one point.

Overall? Great race, and showed Button still has pace on a bone-dry circuit.

The stewards gave Hamilton a reprimand for the collision (in addition to Maldonado's punishment) therefore they felt he was to blame for not avoiding it. Are you a steward?... no, so basically you have no argument any more.

By braking slightly Maldonado's car would have missed the front side of Hamilton's car as he pulled in. Its so obvious to me and clearly obvious to the stewards.

Hamilton's reprimand was for the accident at the chicane, genius, not the incident after the hairpin.

There is absolutely no way Hamilton could have avoided Maldonado. Pastor came from miles back at a much higher speed.

Quit with this "he could have braked" nonsense. It was rubbish to start with and gets no less ridiculous every time you say it. A car ahead of another shouldn't need to brake to avoid a car behind him.

Well, even though the Spa had no water (mmm...bad puns), it was a great race, especailly the first half. Of the racing I saw, I'd say Webber on Alonso into Eau Rouge was the best. Can't wait to watch this race again WITHOUT ad breaks.

I'd have to give my drive of the day to Button.
Team strategists of the day to RBR for giving Webber two runs on the harder compund, and probably making him give position to Vettel after the saftey car.
Facepalm of the day to Bruno Senna, for the first corner shenanigans.
Favourite commentry moment to M brundle

also, next GP, try a drinking game with the BBC Commentry.
Every time MB says:
"<insert name> is absolutely flying (or variations of this)"
"<insert name> is coming at <insert name>"
"We'll get back to DC's point in a moment."
"Don't know whether to look on the track or in the pits."
for everytime Ted Kravitz (?) is speaking and a dramatic moment occurs on track, and so on.

Could it be a karma for Hamilton for what he did yesterday? The race was fantastic though, a lot of overtakings. Great drive from Michael and Jenson - both are my man of the day.

So for the first time this season, we have a proper first corner incident :p

Much better then the Legard. "<insert name> is winding himself up for a lap".

Spa never disappoints in that respect. It's a tricky corner and even if only one driver makes a mistake, it sets off a chain reaction with other drivers!

So anyway that's a few more overtakes Vettel did this weekend.

The 'Vettel can't overtake' brigade are strangely nowhere to be seen.
