What I took out of FP2 is that Mercedes and Force India seem to have made steps forward, the full size of which remains TBD. Quali will tell the tale. As Vettel would say, time for everybody to pull their pants down and show what they've got. No more sandbagging.

I still haven't taken anything out of it yet, because I know it will all change. :confused:
 
I'm guessing P3 might be the first session that shows true speeds each team is capable of. I'm a bit skeptical of Sauber's pace, but they set those P2 times on the medium compound and probably had a low fuel load.

Bracing for F-Duct mania if the mercs are on the podium.
 
I'm pipping Mercedes for the Podium... Not coz I am a huge Schumi fan but because I really thing Mercedes really deserve at least one or two podiums...

I find it interesting as usually the teams "doing illegal things" are the ones at the frontier of innovation and are fast as a result (think F-Duct, Double Diffuser).

Merc have this rear wing and RB and Ferrari have similiar features....but McLaren are not in these arguments about legal vs illegal interpretations....and I am sure it hasn't escaped their attention.
 
Do the regs require stepped noses? I thought they just had to be at a specific height and McLaren definitely meets that.

My understanding is that the nose had to be a certain height where it abutts the monococ, which McLaren have used in the form of a traditional nose, whereas the other teams see some benefit of reducing nose height as soon as the stipulated point on the nose where the regulation ceases to apply, ends.

So the other teams don't have an argument if that's the case, which is how I thought the rule was.
 
Don't know whether to stay up for 3rd practice or just wake up for qualifying. Most likely will do the latter so hopefully my alarm works, otherwise it will be a facepalm moment. Will be awesome to finally see what the pecking order is, as long as it doesn't rain that is. I wonder if Webber at his home grand prix will outqualify Vettel in the same car for the first time. 2010 was his closest attempt. Now that I know he is a Man Utd fan, I'm rooting for him more so ;).
 
Anyone else watching the Australian coverage notice the not-so-dead-looking Kim Jong-Il in the background of Greg Rust's interview with Daniel Ricciardo?
 
Yesterday during the Australian coverage, the commentators drew attention to a quote inscribed on Daniel Ricciardo's helmet, "There is blood in the water", and they pointed out that it is from the song Boneyards by metalcore band Parkway Drive (it's mostly just screaming).

I have to ask ... where's your sense of class, Daniel? I mean, really - Parkway Drive? I mean, it it were my helmet, this is what I'd have inscribed:
With Atë by his side come hot from hell,
Shall in these confines with a monarch's voice
Cry 'Havoc,' and let slip the dogs of war.

I prefer Vettel's 2012 Schedule helmet. :sly:

At least his onboard shots will remind us where they are racing if we ever forget.
 
I like Kovalainen's helmet. Seeing him in the car from head-on, looks like the car is driven by the Angry Bird :lol:

To my Aussie fellas, does the switch to Sky do much to our coverage over the year? Or do we still aim to get qualify and races live with the "official" commentators like before?

Hey, Ricciardo is 22. I'm 25. And that "poetic style crap" is William Shakespeare; it's taken from one of Marc Antony's speeches in Julius Caesar and it basically means "at my signal, unleash hell" (though in the full soliloquy, Antony is criticising Caesar's military tactics).

We'll get the Sky commentators (David Croft and Martin Brundle) for qualifying and the race. Other than that there wont be any other changes to the broadcast, as far as I know.
 
Yes but you are an English teacher, of course those passages appeal to you.

I'm 23, while I didn't know it was Shakespeare's work, I did guess it was something similar. My point basically is, (should I have put a semi-colin here instead of comma??) the phrase "at my signal unleash hell" would be more appealing to our generation (unless you are an English scholar) than those old English lines, which is why he put something so "simple" on his helmet.
 
The Ferrari is a real handful, feel a bit sorry for Massa.

How's this though. I've got a stream showing a certain premium broadcasters coverage but I'm going to turn it off and look for another, these adverts killing me and its free lol. Edit, lol just finished typing this message and another run of ads are showing.:lol: I'd be furious if I paid for this.
