Agreed, it was a racing incident, but Maldonado has to be attributed with the blame. Grosjean may well have been (slightly) in a blind spot, but he also left plenty of room for him to maintain the overtaking line, rather than fading through. As I said before there's no way Maldonado could have been far enough ahead to have taken the line he did unless that corner was completely empty.

Why are we so quick to blame Maldonado?

Yeah your opinion, obviously you have a chip on your shoulder in regards to Pastor and thus jump to the conclusion that he did it on purpose. Gee what a sound argument you have there, so very clever and well thought out.

Also the vid you show, gives us a look at Grosjean locking up diving into the corner and thus Pastor had to pass. If he didn't he would have probably run into the back of Grosjean mid corner. Seems grosjean is just a tad bit stubborn to give up a spot when he makes a mistake.

I only came to that conclusion after watching the replay when the race ended... because he had space, had finished the curve and instead of giving Grosjean some room he went left and touched the front tyre of the Lotus and thats what broke the suspension... I will wait for the youtube videos before passing further judgement
 
There is always a villain in every race, Maldonado would appear to be this weeks Voodoo doll.
 
No-one else thinks Maldonando is an idiot? He was invovled in a few stupid incidents last year and he took Grosjean out when he clearly gave him a clear path to overtake

I certainly don't.

With Grosjean, it was a racing incident. Just that.

He had a stunning drive up intil the 2nd sector of last lap.

So shall we change his name to Criminaldo: Guilty until proven innocent? We may as well, seeing as how half the forum can't spell Maldonado. A certain former world champion was also involved in a few stupid incidents last year. Most of which were his fault.

Yes, he is a bit ragged at times, but today was a good race for him up until the last lap. The incident between Maldonado and Grosjean was a racing incident. Happens all the time. And if it really was deliberate by Maldonado, there would at least have been a stewards enquiry.

Seems some people have become Grosjean's number one fan overnight.

Maldonado wasn't to blame for Grosjean's off.

I'll throw my chip into the camp of 'Massa replaced by mid season' I think. :)

By who? Who is in line to replace him? Is Fisichella even racing anymore.
Kubica was waiting in line to replace him, but i doubt that will happen anymore.

Of course he was to blame.

But, it doesn't make him an 'idiot' or a bad driver.

Just an accident.

All incidents like that are investigated by the stewards. Since no action was taken against Maldonado, they obviously decided he was not at fault.

I'd second that. Bear in mind that Grosjean didn't change the direction after he entered the corner and, it's a F1 race, so don't expect him to lift off the throttle in such a situation.

We all have our moments and I myself might have been an idiot once or twice (not that I can remember :D) but I was really looking foward to see the pace of the Lotus and Grosjean and when Maldonado took him off I thought «what an Idiot» and then Martin Brundle said «that was very rude from Maldonado» and the words rude idiot just kept ringing in my mind whenever I saw Maldonado on screen... :D though he does seem to be a better driver than Bruno... unfortunatly... for Williams

Didnt change the direction??? you saw him go for the Apex or are you saying that he gave Maldonado room?
 
Maldonado already has history from F1 (Hamilton incident) doing the same thing kids do in "lesser" categories. I think this is just a rerun, much better executed to look unintentional. My personal opinion about this kind of incident: This is F1. Not the schoolyard and these bully tactics can't be accepted.

He should get some kind of warning, same situation and deliberate move or just a "terrible lack of awareness of who's beside" you, you're out for a couple races.
 
Glad that Button took the win, Hamilton will probably have to work hard to be able to beat his consistency. And Alonso on the money as ever in a difficult car, seems these drives of him (pushing the very best out of a average car, and still being able to drive in the front pack), have become so normal now that nobody even mentions it anymore :)

Other notes; Mercedes fast but struggling with tyres, Red bull finally off the throne without the blown diffusers and Williams have improved and are doing good with the renault package, seeing a team of their rep sliding to the back is painfull especially since their history.

What on earth did Maldonadohave to gain from punting Grosjean out of the race? If you look back to Spa, he was clearly angry that Hamilton compromised his lap by squeezing him off the dry line coming out of the Bus Stop. Grosjean didn't do anything to Maldonado, and yet you're acting as if he's got a long-standing grudge against the man.

And yet, when Lewis Hamilton makes an aggressive move and pulls through, everyone hails it as a fantastic move.

But he clearly didn't do anything wrong. It was a racing incident. Grosjean's front-right wheel hit Maldonado's left-rear. Grosjean was in Maldonado's blind spot.

You're obviously judging Maldonado on Spa last year rather than Melbourne today.
 
I'm judging him from what I've seen him do not last race, but in the past as well, including previous battles with Grosjean.

edit: here's one (Grosjean was making on of those back to front awesome races and Pastor completely and unnecessarily ruined it)



And about him "thinking", I actually think he doesn't do that. He just a acts on instinct. He didn't think he'd get in trouble or not, he didn't even think if Grosjean could still be there, he didn't care.

Maldonado should follow the route of Montoya and go play with the big boys in NASCAR. He'd be a perfect fit there.

And about Hamilton, this was not an aggressive overtake. This was just, if not deliberate, careless punting another driver off track.
