The entrance to Portier is already blind enough as is. You have to turn in a little bit before you actually see the apex. The position of Perez's car at the time would further obscure the turn-in point.

If that is the case, then the comment he gave during the interview was BS. I'm disappointed by his recklessness. A hero, immediately back to zero.

As far as I can tell, Suranovich hasn't been banned. People in the OMG/WTF moments thread were claiming he has been given a ten-race ban, but as far as I can tell, he was just excluded from the race results.

Yeah, I just read that in the OMG/WTF thread. But if he really is banned, he deserved it.

He also visibly accelerates around Perez, and is going much faster than he normally would on the entry to Portier. Between the shape of the corner, the relative positions of the cars, cold tyres and what-have-you, I'd be prepared to accept Maldonado's explanation that he misjudged it.

But without the onboard footage from Maldonado's car we can't be sure (Though the Stewards will have had access to this).

The point I am trying to make is the movement of the car isn't consistent with his explanation. He turns gradually towards Perez, when Pastor knows you need to be wide for the entrance to Portier. Had he overdone it on the exit the rear would've kicked out, but in the video he didn't look to lose control at all.

We can't see his steering movements unlike the incident in Spa, so we're not entirely sure. But all I know is i've never see a car hit the inside of that barrier, which is what supposedly would've happened if Perez wasn't there.

I just think he was getting frustrated with traffic repeatedly holding him up on fast laps and lost his cool (regardless of the fact it was still practice), taking it out against the person that happened to have been in the way on this lap, even if it was only for a moment at the Lowes hairpin.

Rain for today is still expected. Whether it will fall before, during or after the race is still unknown.

I haven't seen rain during a race in Monaco and i really hope that will happen today.

Let the chaos unleash.

The last time around was back in 2008. Not really a chaos but turned out to be one of the most exciting race in 2008!

If it rains today, sit back and relax. It will be the best race of the season! A repeat of 1996 is also a possibility! :D

I missed 2008 race. Only watch 15 laps 'till the end. :ouch:
If another underdogs to win. Or Schumi. Zerox will be please. :D:lol:

I did some maths on that (yes I have no life ). Panis won from 14th out of 21 starters, so to win from the same position today would be 16th from 24 starters and the person starting 16th is Vergne.

If it rains, either Hamilton or Schumacher will win. (Schumacher deserves it after that brilliant pole position and stupid grid penalty).

If it's dry, I think it could be anybody's game, but I think Webber has a strong chance of taking it home. I would be happy with that too. As long as Alonso doesn't win. I just don't like that guy.

Pole position is usually very grippy at Monaco, polesitters her tend to have good starts here, so maybe even Webber can start well and lead into turn 1. Second place, however, has had a tendency to lose to the 3rd placed person, which is what happened in 2010 and 2009. Will be interesting to see what little position change we will have off the line.

Around 5 hours before the start of the race and there are clouds scattering all over the skyline of Monaco according to the weather report!

I'm hoping at least 20 cars finish the race. End of Q2 I think from first to tenth was 0.4xx. From that I can see a closely fought race. I'd hate to see Hamilton, vettel, button, Schumacher, raikonnen, rosberg, alonso all go out in a pile up like the GP2 Sprint race. Really looking forward to Monaco this year.

(apologies for spelling )

Do some research and you will find that the Alonso of 2012 is a humbler driver and person than the Alonso of 2007. I've always found him an arrogant git but a world class driver but he seems to have matured tremendously in the past few years.

According to the weather forecast, it looks like there may be some light rain an hour before the race. After that, it looks to be clear until after the race

He still has his hand-waving problems though. :p

At Monaco? The closest we have ever been to that was 2007 where 19 cars were classified, 18 finished. But other than that its pretty normal to see 4 or 5 cars retire (or sometimes half the field!).
I reckon we are going to see a fair few retirements today, there are too many drivers starting in the midfield or at the back with good cars and a point to prove.

I agree, I like Alonso a lot more these days compared to 05/06.

Top quality driver 👍

I grew to like Alonso as well. He is now fast and consistent and smart, no BS, no bullying...

He still has his hand-waving problems though. :p

The guy has to vent somehow. Much better than parking it on an apex or cliping the front of other drivers if you ask me. Let him have his waves ;)

I'm told the BBC is reporting that McLaren, Ferrari and Mercedes are all unhappy with Red Bull's latest floor design.

Oh I agree, in fact I enjoy it haha. There are many things he could do which are much worse. Its just not very "humble" of him is all I'm saying :p.
The angry, excitable Alonso is still there. Its just he's keeping it in his helmet - which I think we all agree is where it is best left.

Has this ever happened before, where a car is deemed illegal and immediately pulled out of the race?

Could they change their back to it's old design if it's deemed illegal?

To the Alonso comments, I actually really like him. Sure he's a bit over expectant of the ackmarkers and he was arrogant but nowadays he seems pretty chill.

He found a very good balance. He is now one of my favorites and probably the one in best shape at the moment. Hope he keeps up just like that.
