You still have to factor in that you don't want your car to end up like Senna's just because you had an extra set there an thought "What the worst that could happen".

Doesn't mean everyone would be trying for the time table top spots and risking crashing.

With extra tyres, more drivers would be out simulating longer runs and getting a better feel for the track as well.

Bottom line, it's the main feeling from what I read from teams and drivers that extra tyres would mean more track time.

Very wet, cold and windy today, way too many red flags! I was at Village during Senna's crash, so I missed that. Traffic was awful, didn't get out till half 7!

Is it going to be wet for qualiy tomorrow??

That Caterham has one loud exhaust overrun with it's new exhaust fitted. I reckon they're going to get some results soon enough. Meanwhile GP2 was much more interesting to watch than F1 today.

Bob Fearnley of Force India now says otherwise (regarding tyre shortage)

"BF:: Not really, Dieter. As a team, we obviously feel very very guilty that we're not out there running for the spectators but on the other hand, we don't gain anything from it. With all due respect, even if we'd had the tyres we wouldn't have run, because the risk to reward is the wrong ratio for us, and it was more of a precautious programme than it is by taking unnecessary risks."

No one in the press conference (Rob White, Mark Gillan, Pat Fry, Adrian Newey and James Allison) disagreed.

Wouldn't have seen more action out there anyways then after all...

The weather is really affecting the Grand Prix this year, and not just on the track:

BBC Sport:
Up to 20,000 ticket holders are being asked to stay away from Saturday's qualifying sessions at Silverstone.
Heavy rain affected thousands of race fans on Friday and left half of the circuit's car parks unusable.
Officials want to get them back into use for Sunday's British Grand Prix, when 125,000 race fans are expected.
Silverstone's managing director Richard Phillips said: "If you have a public car parking ticket we are strongly advising you not to come tomorrow."
He added: "The situation is that we want to try to recover things for Sunday and that's the most important thing for us at the moment."

Bad news for the fans 👎

The Caterham made that bassy noise on the downshifts last year too. We were told we may not get a parking space because the campers now need them. They didn't £55 for it though.

On the "boo not much running" topic, well at least its only Friday practice, its not the main event. A shame for anyone who is/was only going to the Friday but then that is surely a low percentage of fans. They did at least run a little bit. Anyone who is there for the full weekend has much more to look forward to as they will obviously all run and go for it tomorrow and Sunday (assuming the weather doesn't get much worse and prevents running).

As I understand, all those who were unable to make the free practice sessions or Saturday's Qualifying will receive a full refund. Although 20,000 fans might not be present, I believe the vast majority of fans camp on site or reside in nearby hotels. The press release earlier stated that no other fans would be affected. It may even be the case that things get turned around on Saturday and business is usual come Sunday.

In true Brit style it looked like everyone was having a great time as usual down in the grand-stands, judging by BBC Coverage. Although I haven't been to a GP yet, I'm sure soaking up the atmosphere is all part of the experience. The main attraction is Saturday + Sunday in my opinion anyway!

Well I was there last year and it was similar conditions where we didn't see a whole lot of running and it was still a good mood all around. The thing with Friday is that most people are excited just to be there (I know I was) and there is plenty of GP3, GP2 and Porsche action to watch.
Everyone knows that the real action comes on Saturday and Sunday so its kind of expected that there isn't always much to see on Friday.

Not to mention I think we all knew this weather was coming...if you go out at any time of the year in the UK, you always plan for rain.

Video of Senna's latest screw-up:

He's still maintaining his average of one major episode every other race. I can't imagine he's going to be in the team much longer.

To be fair that's a pretty unavoidable accident, once he was gone there was no saving that....

And he will stay.

Because name/money.

Anyway, we have to drive over 3 hours to get there in a bit, and we are public car park ticket holders...

Not looking forward to trying to get in.

How about before he was gone? That would have been avoidable then. After all, nobody lese managed to spin on that puddle.

Sooner or later, Bruno Senna will become a liability to Williams. It doesn't matter how much money he brings to the team - if he keeps this up, they'll cut him loose.

I was looking forward to Caterham's updates, sounds like they're working, It's almost time (for me) to get a Caterham hat. Will have to see if Petrov gets signed for next year though.
I decided to put a 'leap of faith bet' on him to win Silverstone the other day heh.

Not arguing with you because it seems you have it in for Senna...

I certainly don't like him, but I think that even the most ardent defenders of Bruno Senna will have a difficult time arguing against his track record - particularly in recent races.

I have to admit I'd hoped he be showing better at this point. All the best to him. Hope he can turn it around.

At the moment it's dry here. I just about made it in, but the sides of the road and the roundabout islands are littered with cars and tents. Me and my trusty parking ticket got in about 45 minutes ago. Aiming to be at the circuit by half 6 tomorrow.

I think I remember the SkyF1 team saying it was a record crowd for a Friday. Obviously however they didn't mention the specifics like whether it was a Record for Silverstone? Or a record for Formula 1 and what the numbers were and previous record was.

Ian Parkes from the Press Association Tweeted that there were "over 80,000" people at the circuit on Friday.

Thats pretty impressive considering all the issues yesterday. 1 it's only Friday practice, 2 the weather was horrible, 3 the traffic and parking I heard some people didn't make it in until the last F1 car had left the track.

And yet, Spain has two races (and America will have two races) when the UK does not. Bernie Ecclstone justified a second race in Spain by wanting to capitalise on the popularity of Fernando Alonso. You'd think he'd recognise the same thing here, even if only as a chance to make more money.
