I'm not vet tells biggest fan but if he does win the championship with the trouble he's had in this race he will deserve it

This right here is absolutely correct. It makes it very difficult to follow this race knowing things should not be as they are right now
 
Worse still it opens the potential for the race - and championship - to be decided after it's finished, not during it.
