Well today, Canada 2011, Malaysia 2009, Japan 2007 and Belgium 1998 would be prime examples.

Seldom used, but still necessary if the conditions are possible.

Don't know how much energy is used to make these F1 tires but if they make them at the start of the year and make one set for each driver they will be useless by the mid season because they would have a short shelf life because they are not focused on long life like a normal car tires.

Excuse me? I never said it was the reason why they stopped the race, just mentioning a correspondence and relating it to the wet tire operating window.
 
I always wondered why the X cars don't have 23 coats of Rain-X like the standards do.

But back on topic, at least the cars are rolling again. Here's hoping conditions improve. I think I actually admire the SC driver more than the F1 dudes.

Because it is a rule that if the race is restarted behind a safety car you must be on Full Wets.

There is a difference between operating window and FIA calling the race to be stopped. We don't know their operating window do the latter. The rain was obviously too much for what the tire was designed for.
 
Well four of my picks are nose to tail right now...just not in the order I'd like

OH crap, now I will not defend hrt for a while.
