2012 Subaru Impreza - Let's mix in some more ugly shall we?

Calm down everyone, you haven't seen the interior yet.

Ohhhh that's just unpleasant.

The Hazard light button appears to have been crudely fashioned from throat lozenges and sellotape.

And air vents cruelly stolen from the 2004 Hyundai Tucson.

And the sat nav from the Halfords clearance cabinet.

I assume you're referring to the one single Tuscon that was actually bought.

Oh Subaru, what is going on?

Am I the only one that thinks that it looks nothing like a Subaru? IMO, 2008 was the last good year for them. They still had that older Impreza and the older Legacy. Both are beautiful cars.

I don't think it looks as ugly as the last one, which was an absolute sin, but it is by no means a good looking car, its incredibly dull! It's like looking at a puddle of mud in the floor.

Really, Subaru is just going freefall.

They are owned by Toyota now. Too much influence from big brother I'd say.

What? Since when?

That said, judging from Jondot's pic the interior looks quite unpleasant to touch. But we'll have to wait for a proper review, though.

Recently, Toyota increased it's share on Fuji Heavy Industries, which controls Subaru. Nevertheless, I don't know if the increase was that substantial to give them control over Subie.

I thought the clear LED rear lights on the previous Impreza made the entire car slightly interesting. Now that they've replaced them with normal globes with red covers (like every other car on the market), it's forced me to try and find something else interesting about this new model. I wouldn't call it ugly... but it does look boring, odd, awful, etc. :)

Whoa, look at those sexy wheel arches. They make the rims look 12" big.

GC was just an awesome looker and performer. And the 22B.. it just oozes.......

GD Impreza, this specific headlight "model", was the pinnacle of the Impreza for me.

And I do like this new STi a lot until I get to the back end. Tail lights look squeezed to fit something right. Whatever it is, it didn't work. That Photoshop render a couple pages back is extremely awesome to me.

I must say, I really like the interior. I like the red accents, the dash instruments, and the real simplicity in handling each button/feature.

The rear seats will make you change your mind.

Mmmmmm, just look at that lovely... off-grey... I wanna say leather?

I do like it. The interior at least looks like some effort was put into it. Below is a common car in this country, and it's interior.

Much better than that interior. It's even better than my car's interior (avatar picture) Might it be that your standards are too high?

Well, if the door panel didn't look like you could pull it off with an over-exuberant tug...

Between the 2, I like the styling of the wagon more. Both have a questionable rear though; don't care much for how they designed the bumper in relation to the quarter panels.

I do think the styling of the wagon will set itself up to look more intimidating when the STi comes out, like it does with the current car, but I don't think Subaru can make that rear look any better.

The front looks like a Legacy, and the wagon (finally, the wagon substituted the horrible thing known as "Impreza hatch") still needs 4 more inches of trunk to be "average"

Subaru's designers need to be taken outside and shot

They've gone from a KIA lookalike to a mismatch of bit's they've found. STI have got their work cut out making that look better (if they're still going to make them :( )
Impreza's have never been beautiful but at least they haven't been embarrasing.

So you're telling me that, in Colombia, the Subaru Impreza currently on sale is at the same price point as nothing else but a 1995 Renault Megane?

If not, that's a pretty irrelevant comparison. I might as well retort with an interior from one of our 'common car's:

Well, common in Kensington anyway.

There is a different assumption regarding car quality in countries under development like Brazil:

First of all, the overall income amongst the population is considerably smaller than in our european counterparts, secondly, the absurd taxes charged onto vehicles on those countries help to catapult the reasonably priced sportscar to a whole new level, meaning the average european Joe's sporstcar is aimed at ( almost or ) wealthy people around here.

Considering those factors, you'll can pretty much say that a Hyundai Sonata is an upmarket vehicle around here, it retails for R$92k (36k pounds) and carry comfortable seats, good powertrain and sleek styling. Our local average Joe never ever took seat in something even close to it in terms of comfort and build quality, so considering local standards, the Sonata is a luxo barge and the Subaru does have a decent interior.

At the end of the day, everything comes to what you have experienced. I remember some months ago when I was lucky enough to take a seat in a 911 Carrera 4S and pretty much any other interior trim I've ever experienced before just felt dull. If you're used only to take seat in old imports and econocars ( like I'm used to do), anything with decent leather and slightly modern design will do your day.

Nothing compared to the Phantom you've posted but you got the picture.

Usually, comparisons shall be made within a specific price range and a specific market purpose. There are a lot of cars in the same price range currently being made today whose interiors would eclipse the subie in terms of material quality and feel, and therefore I tend to compare them to the Impreza, instead of the econobox I'm forced to drive everyday.

So, yes. The interior does feel cheesy and there are a lot of better trimmed cars in that price range, starting with the recent VeeDubs and Fords.

Just because local standards are low, you don't need to adapt yourself to them. ;)

Apologies for the insanely long post.

 Yuk, that does look not very nice, IMO, I think it would quite luxurious with a darker interior. Anyway, after seeing sl3ight's amazing photoshop of the new Impreza into a STi, I decided to have a go. Results:

The cars on the 1st page seem like more of a Legacy than an Impreza.
