Thank god for that fire truck that came out! Made it slightly worth getting up early for. Those fights for positions were good, impressed with hulkenberg's performance. Perez's delamination was exciting, was sat there for 30 laps wondering what the 🤬 I got up early for.

I think I read somewhere that there's only around 70 thousand there for the race...

Lost interest after Sutil decided to be a d:censored:head and the stupid Jeep entered the track before the safety car. That could hurt Korea's right to be apart of F1 in future possibly (especially with Mexico, Austria, Russia and Mexico are potentially coming into the equation next year).

DK
Sutil has retired.

Good riddens. He definitely deserves a grid penalty for what he did. Same goes for Perez for his incident earlier on.

So the fire marshall told the driver of the to jeep go out and help them with the fire and it was not normal procedure and he has had a strong telling off for it

Also there was something over the radio to Grosjean towards the end saying 'we will talk about this after the race but till then big smiles on the podium'!

I think that's actually fairly decent for an F1 race. The circuit only has a total seating capacity of 135,000, so 70,000 would be just over half capacity. However, I don't know whether these figures include "general admission" whereby you just sit on a hill somewhere. F1 race venues don't normally have seating capacities of 167,785 like Daytona, 175,000 of Talladega, or 257,325 of Indianapolis. As I recall, these stadium-like tracks here in the US haven't been all that packed in recent history, either, although even being just half-full would still produce some numbers greater than 70,000.

It's worth noting, however, that F1 tickets are substantially more expensive than tickets to something like a NASCAR or IndyCar race, so filling seats is harder due to the prohibitive ticket prices. Even Daytona 500 tickets start at only $74 for 2014, several seating options are below $100, and almost all are below $200. Tickets for the 2014 Monaco Grand Prix, on the other hand, do have one seating option for 84€ and then one for 159€, translating to $113.88 and $215.56 respectively, while every other grandstand option goes from 345€ to 625€, or $467.72 to $847.31, and VIP ranges 1600€ to 2500€, or $2169.12 to $3389.25.

Is it just me, or was that a cracker of a race?

Yes, that was definitely a cracker of a race. It's one of the most enjoyable among many others within a lengthy period of time, partly due to some bad reasons, such as Rosberg's front wing grinding the asphalt, (that was utterly shocking) the sudden sighting of the Jeep right after the camera switched to the one showing the second straight, (I was like, "..what?") Perez's tire blowout, Webber's car going on fire, and the two safety car outings. But even if I wasn't immorally relishing on some of those crazy, super dangerous bits, there were a number of tight battles behind the leader, which kept me hooked to the screen. All-in-all, a highly eventful one.

Also, I was somehow very attached to the Hülkenberg-Alonso-Raikkonen-Webber train in the middle of the race, although there wasn't much going on between them in a few laps, no matter how close they were to each other. And Hülkenberg holding off Hamilton in the closing stages was pretty impressive considering the inferiority of the car he's driving....or is that Sauber now suddenly becoming "that good", with all those comments about it getting better traction out of some corners?

And I'd say that quite a lot of the races will be much more bearable and likable if you ignore the dominance of the guy in front. And don't pay too much attention to the time gaps shown; try to just enjoy the action on the track more. And it's gonna be much better if you don't focus too much on how whoever you're rooting for is doing all the time, so you won't spend too much time lamenting on the increasing numbers. Get ready to switch to that mindset when you feel like he really seems to be losing out or hopeless. With that stable and less than optimistic mindset, the feeling would be even better if he suddenly manages to make up places.

That was the nail in the coffin for me watching F1 on tv next season. As long as the race is at Albert Park I'll go but, I think Im done watching on tv after Brazil. The battling was fantastic but, Sutil's lock up just spoiled it for me.

Sauber's sponsors got their money worth this race. Hulk certanlly driver of the day. Reminded me of Senna at times when defending, top class driving keeping faster cars behind him. Hulk really deserves a top seat next season!

Because Chelsea FC really need more money in the first place.

But seriously. Hulkenberg, he's a man who really turns on the style at the end of the season. Did it in '10, '12 and now '13. Superb.

Kimi qualifies badly, has an average race but finishes 2nd. How does he do that?

Faster cars? oh you mean around the corners, even when Hamilton nailed the exit with DRS Hulk was gapping him in a straight line.

Agreed , was probably as good as his drive in brazil last year.

Shame Webber couldn't have his final season incident-free, both internally at RBR and externally... :(

You know, replace Hamilton with Vettel in this situation and there would be several posts along the lines of "Lol. Vettel can't overtake".

The Sauber was excellent today but a large portion of that was down to Hulkenberg.

Cool as a cucumber under pressure. That was a brilliant defense and great tire conservation.

RE: Kimi's sorta average race... he should be thankful for all the safety cars... they helped put him in position to climb up the order. Still, he put in the legwork where it was needed.

No doubt people are going to be yapping about that overtake on Romain tomorrow... what was up with that?

Was interesting to find out the RB drops from 8 to 4cylinders. Makes we wonder if the cars can take on way less kg of fuel than the rest of the field. May explain other means that help Vettel be so quick.

Of course some people would say that, I wouldn't say that because the Sauber was clearly very quick in a straight line today. Hulkenberg didn't make any mistakes to be fair though, despite the constant pressure from Lewis and Fernando.

Glad I never woke up early to watch this, will watch the Japan Grand Prix in the hope Alo can have a majestic performance.

Is it just me, or was that a cracker of a race? Everywhere except up front, of course... since Mercedes and Ferrari are doing what they do best this late in the season... which is falling behind in the development race.

Pretty pleased with how Lotus, despite its money troubles, is doing compared to those two. Lotus probably isn't pleased that it's Kimi in second instead of Romain.

Also pleased at all the clean racing and jostling for position down in the pack. Some great battles, there.

And mighty happy for Nico Hulkenberg... this guy deserves a better car next year... but if Sauber keep pushing this way, maybe he'll get one.

Winners of the day: Vettel, Hulkenberg, Raikkonen.

Losers of the day: Adrian "Ain't-got-no-brakes" Sutil, Mark "Ain't-got-no-luck" Webber, Lewis "Ain't-got-no-car" Hamilton (yes, despite still coming in fifth).

Agreed, that was one of the best races of the season.
Forgot how good the korean GP is.
Last ten laps were really good.

So, you guys are saying that if one was to watch this in replay, basically watch the starting few, and then skip to ten laps to go?

Watch the first lap, then skip to when Webbers car catches alight.

No-one has mentioned the bit where Rosberg's nose malfunctioned with the sparks flying, that was unusual....

Pretty good race if you ignore yet another flawless lights to flag win from Vettel. Great drive by Hulkenberg, certainly putting himself at the front of the shop window.

Also lol Di Resta. He's having a howler of a season.

That's a very different race.
