If sutil was doing better di resta would look awful now

Well if you skip past the novelty moments for an action starved audience - WOW A FIRE TRUCK! and look at the actual on track action for the win, was zero.

Oh I'm sure other on-track action may have been exciting, but I can't quite, exactly, remember the last time we discussed whether or not JPM deserved 3rd in the championship over MS in '05, can you? No, because it doesn't matter squat.

No-one has mentioned the bit where Rosberg's nose malfunctioned with the sparks flying, that was unusual....

Ted Kravitz said the upper fixings that hold it in place failed, causing it to drop down.

Quote of the weekend by Hamilton!

""There is a car that has recently arrived thirty seconds before everyone else to the finish. Viewers have seen lately no real racing, no wheel-to-wheel duels. Of course, it is boring for the people, if they know after the start of what will happen." Hamilton said."

And who's fault is that?

The other drivers and teams are to blame for not being up to the standard.

Indeed. Certain simpletons can't seem to fathom that though. Newey is good, we all know that, but he's not infallible nor is he the only man in the world capable of designing a winning F1 car. The other teams need to buck up their ideas.

I'd like to see that wing after it was replaced.

Pretty good race if you ignore yet another flawless lights to flag win from Vettel. Great drive by Hulkenberg, certainly putting himself at the front of the shop window.

Also lol Di Resta. He's having a howler of a season.

That's a very different race.

Happy now?

What is this? Räikkönen smiles in Lotus' team photo that was taken after the GP?

He's just seen the ice cream van pull up behind the camera.

I notice that, unlike Grosjean, he doesn't have his champagne bottle next to him. Perhaps he's finished it off already?

Must be a photoshop.

My focus is more on Mr Bendy Legs on the left.

Is it just me, or was that a cracker of a race? Everywhere except up front, of course... since Mercedes and Ferrari are doing what they do best this late in the season... which is falling behind in the development race.

Pretty pleased with how Lotus, despite its money troubles, is doing compared to those two. Lotus probably isn't pleased that it's Kimi in second instead of Romain.

Also pleased at all the clean racing and jostling for position down in the pack. Some great battles, there.

And mighty happy for Nico Hulkenberg... this guy deserves a better car next year... but if Sauber keep pushing this way, maybe he'll get one.

Winners of the day: Vettel, Hulkenberg, Raikkonen.

Losers of the day: Adrian "Ain't-got-no-brakes" Sutil, Mark "Ain't-got-no-luck" Webber, Lewis "Ain't-got-no-car" Hamilton (yes, despite still coming in fifth).

I wouldn't say they are falling behind. Merc didn't bring a good enough rear wing to Monza and after that it seemed they just gave up due to realizing after said race that these next few were RBR's to lose. Thus production needed to end and there probably wont be any new bits on the car. Though Lewis did have some flo viz paint in FP1. Ferrari on the other hand are still trying for reasons I can't explain.

Considering there are only 5 races left, I really don't see the need for a continuation. I wouldn't call this what those two do best especially since Merc GP had their best season by far since they came to life, and Ferrari may have had a better aero gain if they didn't have issues with their wind tunnel upgrades. The big reason they also don't see a need (at least MGP) is due to Vettel being out of reach and doing enough to keep Lewis in range to finish third and Nico in range to beat Mark, all while finishing second for their first time in the WCC.

Ugh, not that great of a race. Gullible people like you guys are the reason promoters usually feed us **** until the main event. You only remember the last emotion.

Aside from the first lap, a few incidents and the last ~20 laps, the race was boring. The first stint was completely boring, and the first part of the second stint as well until The Rosberg-then-Perez incidents. Then the safety car took out a lot of laps that otherwise could've given us even better final few laps as the tyres would be hitting the cliff.

Initially I only kept watching because I saw that Rosberg's saving his tyres for a late charge, which almost happened. Hamilton did what he does best, and ate his tyres too early by being too close to Grosjean in the first half of the race. Just as I was getting all excited seeing Rosberg making the pass, his front wing just fell off. After that Perez did exactly what Hamilton did + a massive lockup then got himself a delamination.

I'm not defending Pirelli here and I do think their tyres are a joke, but is it a coincidence that it's always the medieval drivers that have their tyres explode? It's always the guys being too aggressive on their tyres even at Silverstone and Bahrain. Hamilton, Massa, Perez. Before you start saying "Perez takes care of his tyres", he stopped doing that at Bahrain after he got embarrassed the first two races. Seriously, Hamilton was losing 2.5 seconds per lap and increasing. One lock up like Sergio's and his tyres would've shared the same fate.

Other points:
*Kimi got a little lucky but made it count when he needed to. It's rather interesting seeing how Boullier wanted Grosjean to pass so bad but was too scared to make the team order. Also, in the pre-podium room Kimi had a smirk on his face when Seb asked Grosjean what happened. The two Lotus driver didn't even speak. There's definitely something going on in there between Lotus and Kimi and they're both keeping quiet. Not that Kimi would have to be told to do so anyway.

*As much as I love Hulkenberg and admire how he managed to hold back Hamilton (and Rosberg at Monza), this isn't the same back marker Sauber we saw at the beginning of the season. More on this later.

*Di resta fell asleep at the wheel again. Maybe it was bad luck in qualifying a few times, but he's been losing during the race the last few times.

*I don't understand why people are giving Sutil a lot of **** when Massa did the same thing and nearly took Alonso out of the race, as well as ruin other drivers' races. More on this later part 2.

*Guitierrez once again doing a great job. He would've been up there with Hulkenberg if it wasn't for that first lap incident caused by Massa that threw him way off track. That Sauber seems to be going back to last year's performance.

*Horrible luck for Webber. As usual. He could've taken pole away from Sebastian if he didn't have to set up his car for the race, and he STILL could've managed to get on the podium if it wasn't for that fire. Also I may be wrong but did he receive a message on the radio saying his batteries weren't working again or something?

Kimi qualifies badly, has an average race but finishes 2nd. How does he do that?
Watch the race and you'll know.

Question for the guys that frequently post here, how many of you watch every single lap of the race?

I do even if it's a 6am start like this morning. I guess I'm an F1 fan.

That's nice.

I ask because there seems to be a lot of things that a lot of guys here miss. I'm not judging their fanboyism.

BTW mods, is it ok to respond to a few comments from Singapore's GP thread or is it "long over"?

Quite enjoyed that race. Well done to Nico Hulkenberg.

Hamilton really should've got in the pits sooner, well before the Rosberg wing, very McLaren esque today in how long they react to lap times.

Just need Kimi to do a better quali but very impressed with him since his comeback.

Title is surely in Vettel's hands now

Who is the guy that only comes to post on F1 threads calling gullible now?

Anyone that disagrees with his thoughts on the race. I don't even know what he's on about with promoters and main events though, thought we were talking F1, not boxing.

Pretty please, with sugar on top, tell me the race was exciting before the tyre blowout or that it's exciting watching ~10 laps of safety car.

The promoters thing was indeed related to boxing. They, along with pretty the whole of the entertainment industry, figured out that most people will judge your product based on the last few bits of it no matter how bad the beginning of it is. That's exactly what I saw when I read this thread. It wasn't a bad race, but it wasn't thoroughly good nor pure as a lot of you are saying*. There were other races that were exciting from start to finish even without a safety car or a single crash.

Not to mention not seeing the leader of the race except at the start, or when that Jeep popped out of no where

Spot on, and I would defend Pirelli, the tires nowadays are in the same field-scrambling role that fuel load/refueling were in 2008.

Race was very much a story of a few guys doing a class job (Vettel, the Lotii pair, Hulkenberg) and a number of guys doing a duff job (Di Resta, Sutil, Perez, Hamilton).

Alonso turned in a substandard performance that I suspect is down to morale issues -- the car's crap, and even through Ferrari's giving its all to hold place in the WCC, it's clear they're lost engineering-wise.

Hulkenberg did a mega job. As has been pointed out, lots of guys with better rides than he has would have panicked and overdriven the car in that situation. But he kept his head and reaped the reward.

Hamilton by contrast was at his most block-headed, burning up his tires in the second stint. He also wins absolutely no points from me for his post-race comments, which failed to acknowledge Hulkenberg's job and sounded the "Fernando and I deserve a better ride" note. It's a bit lost on him that RBR has had the chance to employ him and wanted nothing to do with that.

Di Resta has gone from having a case mid-season for a better drive to now having to worry, rightly, that the best he'll get next year is a slot in Le Mans pro-am GT. And would somebody please put Sutil's hacktastic mediocrity out of our misery?

Edit: I should've listed Maldonado's among the duff performances. The give-up of 4 places from overdriving is in stark contrast to what Hulkenberg was doing up front. And Pastor, lest we forget, has the race win the Hulk craves.

How many races, honestly, are exciting from start to finish? While the safety periods did bunch up the field, creating a lot of action on restarts, the racing in the field was pretty dynamic.

I ask because there seems to be a lot of things that a lot of guys here miss. I'm not judging their fanboyism.

The word "fanboy" is verboten on the boards. If you want to debate a point, fine, but name-calling won't make an argument any stronger.

What's there to miss?

We give Sutil a hard time, we gave Massa a very hard time for doing the same thing last year.

Yes, the Sauber was a very good car, especially compared to the Mercedes, but Hulk did a commendable job of keeping his head and not getting drawn into battle against Hamilton. A proper, unflustered defense is always worth complimenting.

That extra lock-up you're stating Hamilton didn't have? He was locking the tires almost every lap. Pushing way too hard.

If it's important and relevant, there's no reason to not dig it up.

Why are you watching, again? We're pretty sure that Vettel has the championship in the bag, so why bother to watch any race at all, since nobody will be fighting for the WDC, whether or not they win a race?

If you don't care, anymore, I honestly don't understand why, except to argue, you keep watching and commenting.

Except, of course, to argue.

And yet, if you mentioned anything wrong with the Bahrain GP, he'd fly off the handle.

I thought it was a great race and very exciting. There was some great battles and displays of high level driving defensively and offensively. And lots of unexpected happenings for the teams to deal with. (Nose fell off! Tyres delaminating! Fire!)

I thought it was one of the most exciting races in terms of watching drivers go head to head that we've seen all season. Of course I watched every lap, it was outstanding. The feed director made the right call and hardly showed Vettel and focussed on the awesome racing happening behind him.

Why are you watching, again?
To see who wins the race? I found my enjoyment for the win was over on Saturday, again.

We're pretty sure that Vettel has the championship in the bag
Which I alone, correctly called back in Monaco. And people thought I was mad...

so why bother to watch any race at all
Because somehow, I still cling to hope.
