The tweet wasn't the issue at all, it was something a lot more than that and hopefully it gets straightened out. He seems like a nice guy overall and might have somewhat let it slip. I'm guessing either something about Danica, fans in front rows or maybe driver diversity program because he seems to struggle finding funds. It does suck but normally those with less talent even with help fade away.

Pulled this from another forum, apparently this is the statement that caused Clement's suspension.

Way to go as usual NASCAR for keeping everyone in the dark for what he really said. 👎 Reveal the comment, then the people can make a judgement whether or not he deserves suspension. But then again, "certain drivers" are immune to punishment. :grumpy: Clements is obviously not one of "them." On the subject of being fined for derogatory comments towards NASCAR, I should be up to about $250,000 by now for all my bashing in recent years.

Quotes from the article linked above:

Asked again, "Was it racial or not? Maybe not in context, but in term?" Clements replied: "Correct."

"When you say 'racial' remark, it wasn't used to describe anybody or anything," Clements said. "So that's all I'm going to say to that. And it really wasn't. I was describing racing, and the word I used was incorrect and I shouldn't have said it. It shouldn't be used at all."

"And while we're walking they started, he [MTV] started, asking me questions," Clements said. "And it wasn't recorded. We were just talking. So I said one remark about how I wouldn't..."

He stopped short.

"I can't say that part," he said.

Based on deductive reasoning, there's a pretty good chance the phrase he used involved the n-word, combined with the word "rigged." It's only a guess. But, I think based on what limited information he provided, it's the most likely phrase used in that context that wouldn't necessarily be about a person, but is still definitely offensive, even in his idiotic casual usage.

EDIT - a coworker suggested he might have also used the word Jew in an offensive manner, which also could probably fit the scenario he described.

Jew? Well that would explain it then because there has never been a Jewish NASCAR driver. No, doesn't explain it at all.

Just because there isn't a Jewish NASCAR driver doesn't mean that you can use derogatory terms involving them. Unfortunately a lot of people in the south think you can use the word Jew in place of "haggling" or "ripping off" in casual conversation. 👎

I might have a concussion, but I think it might have to do with maybe Kyle Larson and the D4D.
If he ment it as a joke and was just kidding around......... Then I feel terrible for him because I doubt we see him again anytime soon (He owns his own team with limited sponsorship), and it's a shame because he's a great driver (He took 2010 Chevys to top 20 runs last year).
If he actually did drop the N bomb or was really being racist and not making a horrible joke......... Quite honestly it's a shame and I hope he stays out longer then the last time somebody dropped the N bomb (A Rusty Wallace crewman who was back a month later)

Nah I'm aware of it. The Detroit Tigers suspended one of their OFs after he was caught saying anti-semitic slurs last year.

Hey NASCAR, you want to be "hip" and into Social Media? Then stop looking like asshats and leaving people in the dark. That won't keep any new fans who watched that abortion on Sunday eventually.

They're too busy making their website worse.

There are a lot of "old world" phrases that you will hear on almost a daily basis around here that are no where near being acceptable anywhere. I know of the two phrases Ryan is talking about because I've heard them since I was a child.

Lowe's extends sponsorship of #48 team and Johnson: Lowe’s Companies Inc. will continue its successful relationship with Hendrick Motorsports after signing a two-year contract extension that secures the full-season primary sponsorship of the #48 NASCAR Sprint Cup team and five-time series champion Jimmie Johnson in 2014 and 2015. Announced today to more than 1,700 store managers at the Lowe’s national sales meeting, the agreement builds upon a partnership launched in 2001 when Johnson was selected to drive for the new #48 Hendrick Motorsports team. Now in its 12th full season, the sponsor-driver-team relationship has become one of the most successful in NASCAR history. On Sunday in his 400th Cup race, Johnson drove the #48 Lowe’s Chevrolet SS to his second career Daytona 500 win. In the process, he became just the second driver (teammate Jeff Gordon is the other) to have the same primary sponsor for each of his first 400 Cup starts. Led by crew chief Chad Knaus, the #48 Lowe’s team has now scored at least one Sprint Cup win in 12 consecutive seasons (2002-13).(HMS)(2-27-2013)

So much for the random website a certain member posted saying the opposite.

It's just a word though... You really can't ban someone for that long for just using a word that is considered offensive. I'm pretty sure he didn't mean to use it to insult a whole group of people.

The Lowes deal is interesting in that I believe Jimmie and Chad's contracts are both also through 2015. That may make for some interesting negotiations, even though I doubt either of the three are going anywhere (Unless Chad pulls an Evernham and takes the Dodge money to create Knaus Racing, even though I think both Gibbs and Turner-Scott would be the front runners if there is in Dodge money to speak of.

With the competitive results Turner-Scott has been having with its Hendrick affiliation, I can't see that happening.

Gibbs won't jump from being the top Toyota team unless he feels he can get better results somewhere else.
Gibbs is the top Toyota team? Didn't the MWR boys won more races last year and finished higher in points?

For the first time in the six short years, yes.

1: I agree, the new NASCAR.com website is horrible.
2: I agree with MustangRyan, the 'Chase' is essentially a playoff format they use for every other Major Sport in the world, to say it doesn't make sense is rather silly.
3: The Chase was installed to prevent a runaway point leader, from ruining the entire end of the season. If Driver X is too far ahead, and there is no chance #2 can catch him, who's going to watch? I'm not sure how I feel about the Chase personally, but I understand the logic behind it.

If NASCAR wants to increase Chase ratings, I think it's extremely simple, and the fact they haven't done it yet blows my mind. STOP TRYING TO COMPETE WITH THE NFL.
There's two options... every Chase race should be Saturday night race, or shorten the schedule so that it no longer overlaps with the NFL.

Fighting with the NFL on Sundays is ridiculous. So is trying to copy their advertisement model.

MWR finished second in points, and won three (?) races with Bowyer. I feel certain that JGR at least topped the win total, since Logano and Busch both won once. I'm thinking Hamlin won around three times?

I think Hamlin took four in the non chase. Two were back to back wins.
